Wow, just read about this from a business partner (Telecom). This is going to be great for the community. It sounds fun! I hope it goes well!
I think I'm growing to like the name AfreecaTV, I guess Koreans really are starting to want that abbreviation more and more.
Unfortunately I can't participate because I'm working on a series of blogs and catching up with SC2 once I'm done with the last couple things of this semester,
+ Show Spoiler +as well as Yoshi's Weeaboo Seafood Habachi Starcraft Bar, which might stream on AfreecaTV thanks to you sharing the good news!

So that's what afreeca means...
|
biggest issues I have with afreeca are that all streams buffer frequently, seem to stop loading completely at times too, and that it's not possible to have multiple streams open at the same time.
|
Maybe I should visit AfreecaKR HQ on Friday?

Guys, please keep note that we are talking about AfreecaTV Global, not the Korean AfreecaTV, please check out www.afreeca.tv and watch the streams there, the Korean Afreeca streams here on TeamLiquid are actually not the AfreecaTV Global (Non-Korean) streams that are listed, this is essentially the "Foreign" AfreecaTV or Non-Korean, Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the feedback!!

Hopefully you'll grow big enough to have streams for big SC2 competitions on Afreeca, kinda like PL/S2SL has an Azubu stream. The more alternatives to Twitch there are, the better.

I wish Afreeca major success. Streaming is like such a weird business, I'm not sure how companies can break in to get decent market share.
I hope streaming doesnt end up like Youtube.... yeah there are other video sharing websites outside of Youtube, but at the same time they're nowhere near as popular.
Then you have odd situation where you need viewers to get money to pay streamers, and in order to pay streamers you need viewers. So thats a very difficult hurdle to get through.

the best part is the front page of the site has a giant banner that says "I am the King of the ASS"
how can you go wrong?

When afreecaTV gets the license to broadcast something, in this case Premier League, that license also extends to users to rebroadcast. So often times during big sporting events, for example the World Cup, you might see several afreecaTV BJs commentating on it with their own style. One user did this for baseball and eventually got picked up by a network to do it professionally.
However, to keep it on topic, since this is in the SC2 forum, we have the license to SPOTV's SC2 events. Anyone is free to broadcast those games as well.

its cool that afreeca is going global.
does anybody know how the streaming software compares to obs&twitch?

Comparatively, the streaming software is simple compared to OBS, and i'm guessing you mean XSplit instead of Twitch, compared to XSplit, whether you are using just the AfreecaTV streaming platform and or with FFSplit, is just as easy as streaming on using XSplit or Obs on Twitch. Check it out sabas !! Would love to see your BW play!

It needs work and they are actively redesigning it to be better.
Currently, the best way to setup a broadcast, at least for gaming, is to setup your stream with X Split / FF Split and use it in conjunction with the afreecaTV Studio.

Yes, the Star Balloon system is the exact same, except they are called STARs on afreecaTV Global. Japan uses Star Balloons, but the Taiwanese version uses Hearts.

Wait, everyone can rebroadcast proleague and cast it? Live while the official cast is going on? That sounds amazing. So for example TakeTV could just cast SPL on german over AfreecaTV?

Yes, absolutely. A clean feed may also be available. By that I mean, you may be able to receive a feed with game sounds and no commentary, so that you don't hear the official commentary in the back ground while trying to commentate over it.

Wait, everyone can rebroadcast proleague and cast it? Live while the official cast is going on? That sounds amazing. So for example TakeTV could just cast SPL on german over AfreecaTV?
If that happened it would be amazing, I love TaKe! He is like the foreign Sonic.

I think he means on the original afreecaTV (Korea) site. This came up in a thread in the Brood War General forum. Some users suggested getting around this by opening up another window in incognito mode.

I'm not familiar with Afreeca streaming - I only know OBS. I use gamecapture. As far as I know, Afreeca streaming program only captures monitor - not window. Which means I cannot watch NSFW during queue search during my streams - correct?

So you watch Porn during queueing on stream?

You don't?
Point is - game capture is best for privacy.

Anothe question - that weird Macho guy seems to only have 2 viewers on Twitch. I'm assuming he mainly streams Afreeca and streams simultaneously to both Twitch & Afreeca since he has double the upstream power?

I've always debated on whether to move/try Afreeca since last year. One of my viewers did mention that it's alot easier to monetize especially if you are a non-partnered small time streamer on Twitch.
This kind of reminds me of CyWorld USA site lol. But I feel you know there's a big benefit to using this proud product than Twitch and I'm just trying to understand better at this point.

Yes and I absolutely understand your concern, it is a lot easier for a fairly new streamer to get noticed and build a following on AfreecaTV as opposed to Twitch, as Twitch has a really large base of streamers.
I don't think I ever saw CyWorld USA, but that sounds interesting. I would highly recommend anyone in a similar situation to yours, who is interested and wanting to understand better, to start broadcasting on AfreecaTV and see how you like it! I'm sure that you will find it is just as exciting as it is described here in this thread, give it a shot sir!

Dude this feed would be awesome. How do we get access to this feed?
I'd much rather hear my gold/platinum league friends commentate or try to understand what's going on than hear someone like ToD Nathanias or Maynard. It may drive caster income down but will greatly increase involvement of casuals/players. This is probably going to be Afreeca's biggest selling point, since I think Twitch might shutdown your account if you try to do this. Correct me if I'm wrong please.

I'm trying to test this site out but failing pretty hard on the program. Cannot capture window because my display fail to support a selected resolution? and why is 1280x720 the largest when most people run on 1080? can it not downscale?
Edit: k i figured out a lot of stuff. it wont capture windows if you don't put a working audio capture. you can capture your 1080p monitor and it downscales to 720 ( the quality is horrible when playing sc2). you can add a overlay with the watermark function but you need a transparent BMP file. to add a webcam you need to open another capture box to focus only on your camera feed which needs another program to open up.

That's why some broadcasters will setup their stream with FFsplit and Xsplit. FFsplit / Xsplit will show up as a selectable 'broadcast device'. I will try to make a video to better show / explain.
To give you an example of the difference it makes: Without FFsplit - http://afreeca.tv/36832190/v/3791 With FFsplit - http://afreeca.tv/36831875/v/3675
There was a patch this week for the audio, but unfortunately the error messages aren't consistent. Sometimes you will get an error message about the selected audio device or sometimes your selected resolution, which is confusing. They are actively working to resolve this issue and it will be updated as soon as possible.
As for the clean feed to SPOTV events (or any events), if you or anyone else are seriously interested in commentating, you can send me a PM.

EDIT : Maybe not... sorry! I would try FFSplit. I don't think anyone has figured out how to use OBS in Conjunction with AfreecaTV Streaming Platform yet.

I don't think you can do it with OBS. FFSplit is maybe the best IMO

Hello.
I am NarutO from TaKeTV - first question would be if it needs to be broadcasted at the same time proleague is running. It would be morning/noon in Germany which isn't the best time or if it can be shown at any given time.
The 2nd question would be if it is exclusive to AfreecaTV or if it can be shown on Twitch as well as our followers and community is based around Twitch?
A short reply would be appreciated

It may be a latency issue for these certain people, I also do not have any problems watching multiple streams at any given time, not sure.

It would be morning/noon in Germany which isn't the best time or if it can be shown at any given time. The 2nd question would be if it is exclusive to AfreecaTV or if it can be shown on Twitch as well as our followers and community is based around Twitch? A short reply would be appreciated
Hey NarutO,
Yes, for the clean feed it would have to be done at the same time as proleague / starleague. Because we would be providing the clean feed, we may ask for it to be exclusive to AfreecaTV. However, SPOTV isn't exclusive with anyone, for SC2 at least, but I do not know their arrangements with Twitch. I'm unable to say whether either party would allow it, so I would suggest checking with both before trying. I wouldn't want TakeTV to get flagged for it.

Telecom has been threat-hing me the entire evening and i decided that if he does it again i will take more screen shots of it.. He just never learns... He wont ever be respected in this community for what he has done before... He tried to change himself but it didn't work out for him...
He also wanted me to join "Ever" and stream for them on afreeca.tv but when i declined he became extremely aggressive and i don't want to be involved in this after this.
Like i said before IM WARNING EVERYONE DON'T BE INVOLVED WITH THIS GUY! HE HAS A HISTORY JUST SEARCH FOR IT AND HE STARTS OFF AS A DECENT GUY BUT HES EXTREMELY DISTURBED.

I would really like to see some evidence.
