Kim “Violet” Dong Hwan, Professional SC2 Player
First off, I want to thank Mike Rufail for the opportunity to represent Envy and I’m really excited to be a part of their new adventure in Starcraft. For my fans who don’t know about Envy, they are very well known in the Call of Duty community and more recently CS:GO. If you have have followed me for many years, you know that my pro gaming career has had good times and bad ones. 2012 was one of the best years of my life, moving to America and experiencing a whole new culture while winning multiple championships. 2013 was the worst year of my life, qualifying for WCS multiple times to only have to forfeit because of VISA issues. I had built my name in America and wanted more . 2014 overall was a good building year for me, but I must do more and be the player I know I can be. My focus has never been more clear and I’m determined to show you guys some good matches and hopefully on big stages. I want to thank my fans for supporting thru the good times and bad ones. If you are an Envyus fan but don’t know me, you will soon!
Mike Rufail, Managing Director of Team Envy
When we were given the opportunity to sign viOLet, we wanted to know more. We listened to his story. I thought: here is a player, a former champion who made a big move across the world to pursue his pro gaming career in the US at a time when maybe the opportunities were dwindling. What would happen if we gave him an amount of support he hasn't seen here yet? So we're here to find out. We're all really looking forward to helping Kim on his journey and we hope our fans do too.
Andrew Tomlinson, Founder & Owner of CSA
Working with Violet was one of my earliest steps into eSports years ago and I’m happy to say that we are still working together to this day. Violet has been an ambassador and role model for the Starcraft community for years and continues to surprise us with what he’s capable of.
When I first spoke with Mike about Envyus, we both agreed that Violet would look good in blue. I couldn’t be more thrilled for Violet, Mike, and the entire Envyus organization, and look forward to seeing what they can accomplish in Starcraft.

Great to see him on a new team!
|
I don't know enough about the shooter scene to tell how big a deal this is. Can someone fill me in?
|
The same team as the ex-LDLC guys on CS:GO. Great combo.
|
It would be better if his name was Green rather than Violet now
|
Hopefully this means, we see more of Violet! Such a cool Zerg.
|
Great news for Violet, congrats!!! And it's awesome to see a team from a different genre expand to sc2.
Good luck everybody .

One of most storylined lineups in CoD, bought last major winners in CS:GO week ago as well.

So yeah I'm happy to see a non-SC2 team investing into SC2 (:

Teams from other genres coming to sc2 is the best thing that can happen and they are not random at all.

nV's biggest rival is OpTic with Nadeshot, who played in nV before creating OpTic. And OpTic's second name is "Green Wall", while nV are "Boys in Blue".

To be fair, they are a random team. People don't consider them random anymore because they recently came out of nowhere and picked up ex-LDLC (one of the best team) in csgo. Before that, no one ever heard of them because they were a CoD only team for years and in the esport scene, CoD is mostly considered a joke.

That's why OpTic has more followers than LCS teams, rofl.

Good business decision by Envy to sign someone like Violet.
Things seem to be looking up for SC2 given how many companies are trying their hand in SC2 by signing players. Hopefully LOTV helps to rejuvenate the scene and bring in more viewers.

OpTic who? I fail to see how having more "followers" is relevant, especially when there's a lot more team playing in LCS than CoD teams playing in MLG. Also, it doesn't change the fact that CoD in widely considered a joke so when a CoD team is starting to recruit teams for other games, it's inevitable that most people will say "random team" because no one cares about CoD teams expect die hard CoD players who still thinks the game is hard to play at a pro level.

Great news! Go Violet!

On February 13 2015 05:09 Hadronsbecrazy wrote: why are big name players joining these random teams? o_O I think this kind of signing is going to become more and more common as time goes on. SC2 is an individual game. It probably makes sense financially to support a single successful player in order to expose your brand and sponsors to the Starcraft market. Teams of 4+ starcraft players will probably become a thing of the past as time goes on. (Except in proleague of course)

So are we supposed to call them Envy or Envyus now? It is handled very inconsistenly both in the OP here and on their website.

holy shit, this is great news..... WOW really lucky to get on with the Nr.1 best CSGO team in the world right now.(maybe fanatic to some people).....
also for people who dont know team ENVYUS is the old LDLC team...

Cool to viOLet on a new team. When he's in tip top shape, he's one of the better Zerg's. I wouldn't say Top 5, but definitely a Top 10 when he's on his form.
And, hopefully he's not another Azubu player who joins a team and just falls off (Supernova, Symbol, RagnoraK, B4). Well, I guess San has had some moderate success but overall, ex-Azubu players haven't really been much of a presence after its disbandment

Congrats to Violet! And to get picked up by the team that just bought old LDLC and my favorite player Shoxie?! I guess I'm a Violet fan now lol

How does having Monster and Astro as sponsors don't make them "another random team"? Look at Razer website and look at all the team they sponsors and tell me that you know every single team in there and they most of them aren't "another random team". People who don't follow CoD (the majority of the eSport scene) have no clue who they were until they picked up ex-LDLC like I said. Sure they might be big in CoD, but CoD is a joke. I guess some people here think that being a random CoD team is as prestigious as big teams like EG and TL which is hilarious in my book.

Where did I say that they aren't wealthy, stable and have some serious sponsors (I wouldn't call that serious sponsors to be honest)? My point is, in the eSport scene, CoD is mostly considered a joke and it's just normal that most people will consider them random because most people don't follow CoD and they couldn't care less about teams competing in that game. I bet you didn't even knew who they were before this like the majority of the people. Big teams are known because they had good players in lots and/or most popular eSport titles, this isn't the case with EnVyUS, hence why I call them "random team". If they had not picked up ex-LDLC and Violet recently, nearly everyone here wouldn't had a clue on who they are.

The problem is that the word "random team" has a very negative connotation, which is associated with shady business practices, scam, etc. The better word to use is "unknown team" or something along those lines.

It was intended to have a negative connotation as they were a CoD team and I don't respect the game/players at all. But you're 100% right, I should've thought that some people would understand it as in "a shady team". My bad, sorry.

I remember about "NAVI expands sc2" thread here. Someone where follow(ed) CS 1.6 or DotA can tell that NAVI isn't a random/unknown team.
Just too many ppl are watching ONE game.

Nobody respects CoD players, but EnVy now owns one of the best teams in CS:GO - which is a game people *do* respect.
I guess this would sort of be like TSM acquiring all of SlayerS during their peak. You'd be like "well, shit... I guess I like a LoL team now".
