It makes the free w/ ads model much more viable.

Richard Lewis was certain GOM wouldn't even be around this year so arguments that this will just make the decline go faster shouldn't be that persuasive. Yeah, I think people are in a little bit of denial when it comes to a) the state of the game in reality vs what they'd like it to be, and b) the real causes for the decline in the game's popularity.
Hot tip guys: one low quality stream is not the reason the viewer base has dropped away so much. Changing GOM's position also wont 'save' Starcraft!
I haven't subbed btw (twitch sucks donkey dick and the vod system is shit, so I'll watch low qual for free until they make it worth the money I'd be willing to spend), I just think the whining is completely disproportionate.

this is exactly why high Gini coefficients are the fact of life. the reproachable, condescending attitude on the low-income on full display here is sufficient evidence.
then again, it's perfectly acceptable since the low-income shouldn't even be here on the Internet in the first place, right? /s
EDIT: no, I'm not advocating for GOM to make stuff free. go read my first post in this thread. exhibiting superiority over the poor is just uncalled for.

Like I said above, sure don't rag on them for their financial position, but they can be called out for unreasonable expectations. We're not talking about necessities here.

OK so I was going to get the subscription because vods on source are how I'm probably going to get to watch half the games anyway. Then I see that to "unlock" source quality costs $24 not $14. What the hell? I feel like I've been mislead here and out of principle I won't spend anything now. It seems so arrogant on their behalf.

complaining about a free stream that costs a ton of money to produce being low quality is like complaining about the size of a sample spoon at an ice cream shop

Anyone who could link me the high quality korean youtube live stream? Or teach me how to find it ?
Edit: found it. Seems GOM closed our possibility to watch the Korean HD-stream -.- "This video is private."... bye bye GSL.

So indeed, lower than 480p.

2014 had more average viewers and more total prize money, than any previous years had. I'm not sure what you're on about but I'd love for you to back-up your doomsaying claims. Or are you just trolling? :o

The reason the Korean stream is free is because every single add they run on their program is Korean and only caters to a Korean audience and it's those sponsors that keep them alive.
They make almost nil profit off non-paying foreign viewers and that's the primary reason they need people to actually pay for their content. They need to run a business and the people who've been leeching for years just don't seem to care for some reason.

Its ok though, moonglade has the best hair in esports, all is well Actually Tastosis are the only reason I still watch Starcraft 2. The months of PvP and PvP again and then PvP... oh yeah sometimes there was PvZ or ZvZ... well it made the game so uninteresting to watch and still it is way too versatile when Protoss is in it. Either they win with cheese or allin or just have that one lucky engagement. The few games you see a TvP or PvZ go back and forth and back again... are just not there anymore. I just tune in because I like to listen to the extremely stupid but funny comments of the 2.

Ex: + Show Spoiler +it's like this: you give a lollypop to a kid, let him suck it for a while then take it away. now, for him, it doesn't even matter if you stole it, if you only payed for half of it or if you want to pass it on to your other kids. he did nothing wrong but is one lollypop short; of course he is gonna bitch. he would've been better if you didn't gave him that lpop to begin with so there, it's GOMs fault anyway for creating the demand in the first place. Edit:to make (more)clear(er): you just don't bring someone out of his ignorance for free then charge him for no longer being an ignorant...

I used to pay for GOMTV when they had their own website with a good video player and a good non-spoiler VOD system. I paid the max amount to get high quality and no ads. Then they switched to Twitch and as you all know, they don't have a non-spoiler VOD system. Hell, you're lucky to even figure out what VOD has what game. Luckily some third party sites have shown up to help with that but now there is a paywall.
Why should I pay for a shitty VOD system? Yes, these are some of the best games anywhere in the world. Yes, Tastosis is a great casting duo. But now you have S2SL and PL which are free to watch. You didn't have those back when GOMTV ruled the world. It was worth paying for because nothing came close to it. Now it just doesn't make any sense to pay for it. It's sad because a lot of people will never get to see the great games they'll have this season and the seasons to come.

What if they break even by only showing ads on Twitch and the $14/season or $24/season is all profit? Do they really need to charge that much? Those of us who want to watch GSL but can't justify paying that much are conflicted. It's not entitlement. I could afford to pay for it. But I'm choosing not to because I think it's too much. That is a decision each of us have to make. But that doesn't mean we can't come here and give our opinions on the matter. Maybe GOM is reading this, maybe they aren't. I've also sent my thoughts to them via their website and Twitch account. No response.

The thing is, youtube and twitch are not their infrastructure. The main cost for the english stream are the casters. I would be totally fine if they vanish behind a paywall forever and, without any additional costs for gom, I'd like the korean feed.

Agreed, what I don't like is that we cannot watch the Korean stream without some trickery.
