I'm curious how it happens. Did you have some connection with the player before? Were you the one who proposed him to come to your house, or did he ask you?
We have connections with most players in Korea in some way. He asked us.
My motivation for posting this here is so that teams don't assume that we have signed him and continue to approach him with offers, which might have happened if it got out some other way.

That'd be a major snipe if it happened.
The question right now is, which teams have money to spend? Hell, he might not even be staying in Kespa. He's gonna be going somewhere, obviously, because you don't just leave a Kespa team to go solo, and a talent like him will attract interest from pretty much anyone.

Weird considering he had a pretty stable place on Jin-Air's proleague line-up and is currently in GSL.
Personally, I think a foreign team would love to have him. He doesn't just show good play, he shows good play with fun and crazy builds, and that makes fans.
I think this severely weaken's JinAir's roster for next years PL as well. Although I guess it could be balanced out by the rise of Cure as a solid top tier terran. Still, maybe this opens up for new pickups? JinairTrap? Another strong toss would be awesome!

You mean like INnoVation? That would probably work for him.
When you're doing very well is the best time to jump ship: it's when you command the best salary and benefits and are attractive to the best teams. Changing teams when you're doing poorly always gets worse results.
Aw fuck. Hopefully he can keep up his current standards without kespa training. Will miss his mental builds in proleague, and he's by far my favourite zerg to watch. Nexus blocks 4 lyf
Im sure a good translation will pop up when it can, but wow, the Bing translator is terrible... Im surprised to see this, i saw JINAIR as the new up-and-coming dream team, able to rival the telecommers. I guess though this is what happens when all your players start playing like real champs and demanding a little more, there just isn't enough to go around. It's a shame JINAIR isn't attracting as much money as they deserve or they'd be able to keep their talent.

I don't think it's a money issue tbf. I mean, they did sign Maru and sOs last season which can't have been cheap at all. More likely that TRUE genuinely wants foreign experience rather than getting dropped, which would make no sense at all

EG seem far more likely to just slowly scuttle their Sc2 division, which is now basically JD.

Have to agree with Squat here. I'd be VERY suprised if EG ever picked up another Starcraft player ever again. They lost a lot of money on their SC2 division with a lack of results. JD has been a disappointment and none of their other players are doing much of anything.

JD has not been a disappointment. He's shown consistently very good results. Not winning every tournament is not disappointing. He has a ton of very solid fans, and the EG sponsers get a lot of advertising done through JD just wearing logos.
If True joins a foreing team, he may have few months of destroying all of the tournaments he'll join. Joining another KeSPA team would be better for him. KT needs a good zerg....

I agree, I think EG is happy with their investment in JD. I just don't think that is enough motivation to keep the Sc2 division afloat with assisted breathing when JD's contract expires.

I guess you're right (I'm wrong just like with everything else). But in the last few months it's hard to say that JD has been living up to his potential. He still has a very large fanbase and he still does okay, I just wish he's live up to the old Jaedong. I tend to be wrong about a lot though so I really don't know. I hope EG isn't too disappointed with him.
Kind of sad for Jinair and proleague, he's one of the most interesting player in game and outside. (remember he talked about a movie he watched during GSL interview hehe).
I don't know much about salary on the Korean scene and Kespa players, but my guess is playing abroad outside Korea, following as many tournaments would probably earn him more money than staying in as Kespa player. And maybe he can do what Innovation does, stay at GSL but no proleague. No obligation, no restriction, more chance to go to any tourneys.
The downside maybe not being in a good team house where there's more practice partners. I kind of think that Innovation wasn't as good since he moved out of Kespa scene.

Seriously, he's not going to leave a decent salary at Jin Air for free food with Prime. If anything he's probably looking for a raise or travel.
I don't know if these players are aware that there are not that many foreign teams capable of affording a top level korean right now. Actually I can't name any that seems a reasonable bet.

EG already confirmed that sc2 is not their main game right now and they aren't investing, but they will again invest in sc2 and get new players around LotV. So no new pickups until then most likely but they will not drop sc2 or only keep Jaedong.

As far as EG's future with Stephano and StarCraft 2, we're keeping the book open. While there are a lot of exciting things going on in eSports right now, we have not lost our focus on StarCraft 2. It remains one of our pillars, especially as we get closer and closer to Legacy of the Void. And as for Ilyes specifically, we'd love to work with him again in the future if the opportunity comes up.
Maybe "will again invest" is too strong, and "plan to invest again" is better.

ROOT.Supernova felt to me like supernova sitting on the market for so long that he took any offer he could, tbh. I don't know or plan to speculate what their arrangement is but I can't imagine they would offer what TRUE is looking for with his stock being as high as it is and his expectations probably being as high as they are right now. Im actually not sure who will pick him up. Myi is doing most of the Korean signings as of late, but they seem to expect you to make the move to EU/NA to join their team which I don't know if TRUE is interested in. Maybe one of the taiwanese teams? Leenock and San seem to be getting a decent amount of international exposure.
What's up with all these Koreans wanting "the foreign experience"? I mean it's understanable but don't they know there aren't many teams capable/willing to afford them?
On a side note: iirc MKP said he wanted to attend foreign tournaments and then immediately joined MVP so maybe we should start taking PR statements with a grain of salt.

Looking for a foreign team..most teams these days have their own little Korean player.
I want to see the best compete with the best, of course, but at the end of the day, most SC2 pros are barely adults who haven't done their military service, haven't gone to college, and don't really stand to gain any tangible long-term benefits from the years they have dedicated to entertaining us. There is a lot more money to be made in the foreign tournament scene than in the impossibly difficult domestic scene, so transferring to a non-KeSPA/foreign/"lower-tier" team that is willing to give them more opportunities to play for that tournament cash is just pragmatic.
If they were like pro athletes in mainstream sports earning a huge wage that would keep them comfortable for a long time, then it might at least be an interesting philosophical argument, but trying to shame players like these as running away from the most difficult competition just because they want to maximize what they can earn (or potentially earn) from their very short windows as SC2 pros is just too unsympathetic

Im not blaming them. But blaming league institution. Grand final is for better player right?? But because of runner, foreigner's opportunity is getting smaller and GF is not for better player. Is this really right thing??. I really dont care about how much they earn. But GF should be composed with many gsl players.

Very awesome of you TB to let him stay with your guys for a little while. I was worried that without a real practice house he wouldn't last in GSL
This wasn´t a smart move at all. :-/ Don't know what he's expecting. Foreign teams' demand for korean players has gone down quite a bit over the past ~6 months, unless you are very popular or very very very good there is almost no chance to get picked up by one of them. In my opinion True is neither very popular nor at the very top. He is pretty good right now, which makes him an expensive player, but still has to prove himself.

Correct. Not many tournaments offer flights and those that do are doing so in heavily stacked qualifier formats in which only the winner of the qualifier gets flights covered. Flight expenses are a massive part of team budgets, particularly since they are so unpredictable.

What is the chance of TRUE joining other KeSPA teams? Samsung, CJ, MVP etc.

I think all this information should be added to OP so people understand better.

:D jk, very generous offer from you towards TRUE though I'm still confused about his decision.
I agree, it'd make a lot more sense if he had an offer lined up, but it doesn't seem like that's the case

So much talent. qq
On the other hand, it's really nice of Axiom to support TRUE.
Ah, gotcha. Very true about the players. I've heard that Kespa does a big draft in October, but it seems like they've been picking players up now, are they still doing that?

I think so. I remember last year a lot of the players were shuffled around, new teams joined KeSPA to replace those that disbanded. I'm sure that will happen again.

Imagine Korean Air (and other airlines) "sponsoring" Esports by letting a small amount of players ( per team and per tournament) to travel forth and back. Would be so sick
