Liquid`TaeJa took home his third HomeStory Cup title in dominating fashion, defeating MC 4-0 in the grand finals. With MC unable to faze TaeJa in the early game with harassment or aggression, the Liquid Terran had few issues rolling over MC with large armies of infantry and medivacs in the mid game.
TaeJa's tournament run was by no means a walk in park, as he dropped series to both Snute and Scarlett in the group phases. His quarterfinal match against Jaedong was a difficult test as well, with TaeJa only able to escape with a narrow 3-2 victory over the EG ace. But TaeJa came through when it mattered in the end, defeating Scarlett 3-1 in the semis and going on to sweep MC in the finals.
With the victory, TaeJa picks $10,000 in prize money and 750 WCS points alongside his third HSC title. TaeJa climbs to 9th place in the WCS point rankings with 2250 total points, bringing him even closer to confirming a spot in this year's WCS finals at BlizzCon.
Despite the all-Korean final, HSC9 upheld its reputation as a tournament where the foreigners score upsets against the Koreans. Both Scarlett and Dayshi finished in the top four of the tournament – Scarlett defeating players such as MMA, TaeJa, Patience, and Stork, while Dayshi defeated Armani and Bomber.
HSC9 also attracted attention due to the participation of KeSPA players Armani and Stork, who had qualified through the online Korean qualifiers. Unfortunately for the Samsung Galaxy duo, they were both eliminated in the Ro16 of the tournament.
Of course, HSC9 also included plenty of humor and antics, starting with a bubble bath opener from tournament host Take and ending with tongue-in-cheek 'excited' commentating of the one-sided grand finals (highlights).

Congratulations to Taeja! Awesome display of skill. Hopefully I'll see him in DH-Summer along with many other players present here. Too bad Destiny won't be there though

I couldn't be happier for TaeJa although I have a feeling that JD should be the one holding the trophy. The tournament in general was amazing, I loved casting by Destiny esspecially, MaNa was really good too. IEMs and DHs are all amazing but HSC just kinda really feels special, I wish I could take part in it one day, so good. I'm glad we have people as Dennis in this community, the amount of effort he puts into our amusement is over 9000. Thanks man, keep those HSCs coming!

what the.... 4-0, how that happen??? MC too tired maybe. congrats taeja.

Liquidstory Cup continues. That is I think 5 in a row at Take's flat for the boys in blue.
Did we ever get a final number on the subscribers Take gained for this tournament?

summer is already here. ._.

Don't assume JD will get the trophy if he had beaten Taeja. JD would have lost to MC

so its TaeJaStory Cup now?

As much heat as some of the casting was getting, I couldn't stop laughing. Great atmosphere and tournament. Of course HSC is going to be on the light side. Sad for JD but grats to Taeja.

That's true. Liquid won 5 out of 9 HSCs so far (Huk when he was on TL, Snute, Taeja x3).

It was nice to see a terran win something finally. The balance patch seems to have made TvZ more bearable, the real finals was Taeja vs. JD as MC kind of fell apart in the final series. The whole early game oracles that sat inside MC's base for 15 minutes I think was the low of the series for MC.

holy shit 4-0'd mc... congrats taeja :O once again return of the Liquid monster!

And here I was doubting TaeJa's form (though admittedly his games vs JD were a bit suspect...). Congrats on three in a row! I'm trying to think of another major SC2 tournament where that's been done before >.>

Hmm, am I the only one having problems watching the VODs? I'll get the starting screen, but the video doesn't start rolling.
Congrats to Taeja!

Grats to Taeja, he was clearly the best player at this tournament, though JD did kind of fudge a game or two against him in usual order. Great to see to foreigners make it so far as well, one of them a terran no less. All in all I'm happy with the results an how the whole thing turned out.
Still unsure about the bathtub though.

double headset build beyond OP what DK is waiting for the patch?

lol has been the first tournament i have watched in a while, i have forgotten how fun HMSC was. especially the parts where Rotterdam did an impersonation of himself and the finals where destiny hyped it up in the last game. congrats to taeja for winning this, few months back he was thinking of retiring right? hope he now looks away from that.
|
Foreigners performed well this time, two in the semis.
|
The best moment of the serie was when the screen caster is on MC base, MC throw down twilight council for blink + 6 gates. Immediatly after, a reaper appears and see everything.
|
Pretty fun tournament overall, with those Broodwar Showmatches or the Korea vs World 4v4s. And also good performance by foreigners with 2 of them in semifinals.

TaeJa equalized number of premier championships with Mvp - 9. TaeJa 3xHSC 3xDH 2xROG 1xMLG Mvp 4xGSL 1xWCG 1xMLG 1xWCSEU 1xBlizzCon 1xIEM
There should be special title for winning multiple titles in one regions - maybe King of Korea/Europe/America for winning 5 titles in region.

Premier Tournaments Medalists
I just need to add last HSC results it will be up to date.

Congrats Taeja!
I loved the tournament, but I didn't like Destiny's casting at all. He's good fun on his own stream, sure, but he tends to overshadow other -less vocal- players who, imho, have a more interesting view on the game.

Mvp's achievements are more impressive, but honestly I don't think the difference is as big as people make it out to be- the average player was much, much weaker when Mvp had his period of dominance than today.

ofc you can't compare two periods. However you can compare the prestige of two tournaments (eg sc2 premier include both gc and masters 1000 in tennis)

Anyone knows where I can find the Jaedong vs Stork BW showmatch, without looking through all Take's broadcasts during HSC?

with the state of the scene the number of title isn't that meaningful. Taeja will never be the greatest if he doesn't win sthg big in Korea imo.
|
I actually agree with the idea that Taeja is not the greatest of all sc2 time, neither the best player/terran in the world. Maybe not even the best at HSC. But I also think that Taeja already knows that, knows he is not the best, maybe not even in the top10, not in the top 20 or more some would say, but who cares. Probably not him. He just won the tournament and it is already huge. And this is the only thing we should look at. Well played Taeja, you deserved it. Just play and enjoy every minute of your career until the very end, without thinking about what would have happened if you were still a Gsl or Proleague contender. Play for yourself and not for the others, because you are the only one who knows what is good for you and your career.
|

Taeja won fair and square, the timing is deadly and he used it well, no argument from me. Overall their record in tournament as a whole was 4-3 in his favour, which I think is pretty damn decent against a monster like Taeja.

That's true. In the heat of posting I put Taeja as quickly becoming the greatest, but that will only be in the number of titles won. Actually declaring someone the best will be scrutinized to the fullest as things like GSL titles come into play... I was speaking more to the fact that I think Taeja will win a lot more tournaments that anyone else. As you mentioned, a lot of the players listed have team events in Korea.

Maybe at some point a new build can come out and people can be given a chance to learn how to deal with it before the community screams about how OP it is.

Grats to Taeja and just a completely well run and incredibly fun event. The Rotterdam soundboard was my personal highlight of the event, although getting to hear NightEnd's voice is pretty rewarding in its own right.
