Two former GSL champions met wildly different fates in Friday night's games, as SKT_Soulkey returned to Code S while Dear fell down to Code B.
After having his five tournament streak of top eight finishes stopped last season, Soulkey ended up playing the first Code A of his entire career (he played his first Code S as a special KeSPA seed). Not surprisingly, the Code S regular was able to take first place in Group F and earn a return ticket. However, he did face a surprisingly spirited challenge from IM's Ruin, who very nearly advanced ahead of Soulkey. Unfortunately for Ruin, he started celebrating far too early in game three, using eleven pylons to draw an "S" on the map. He found himself desperately wanting for the 1,100 minerals not long after, and eventually tapped out to Soulkey's swarm hosts.
However, Ruin was not demoralized by his loss, and earned himself a Code S spot anyway by finishing in second place in the group. He even had the gall to perform another ceremony, planting a Nexus in Samsung_Reality's natural after he was certain he had won the deciding game.
In Group E, the story of Dear's demise unfolded. After an understandable loss to ByuL, Dear went on to suffer a shocking 1-2 elimination at the hands of Journey.* Adding insult to injury, mousesports announced their release of Dear scarcely an hour after his banishment to Code B (Dear's release had been decided upon regardless of his Code A performance).
With Dear gone, both Samsung_Solar and IM_ByuL were able to advance to Code S. Solar earned his second consecutive Code S appearance, while ByuL made his return after over a year of competing in WCS America.
*Journey has been removed from SKT's Proleague roster, but it is unclear as to whether he has been released from the team or not.

Because there's no S in Ruin.

after intense training in the hyperbolic time chamber that is America
Byul is back to Korea to kick butt and take some names!

That S is going to follow him forever. Might as well own it, change name to RuinS

I liked Artosis' idea of making a "B" more, but it made it so funny because Wolf-tosis were talking about doing something like that, then it happened.

S for Soulkey.
Hope the 4 terrans left in Code A qualify so we can have atleast 2:2:1 racial distribution. My terran soul can't handle another Code S with only 3 terrans. ;( Flash, TY, FanTaSy & SuperNova 화이팅~!

I really didn't think Dear would turn into the next Seed. Hopefully he doesn't :/

Ruin with the bm lol. Also, poor dear. Being released from Mouz likely affected his mindset. Hope he's back with a vengeance!

IMRuin we need this stuff in the SC2 scene...GG
|
Why wouldn't he make an R for Ruin... S for Soulkey? What the heck...
|
scarsely Should be spelled "scarcely." Anyway, good read altogether. Sucks for Dear, seems like the kid has potential. Wish him luck in finding a new team!

All 4 who advanced were who I was hoping for. My bad Starcraft 2 karma will strike sometime soon, I can feel it

S for Code S?

The best part of Ruin vs Soulkey game 3 was Ruin smiling in his booth during the last few minutes, all like 'I just made myself look like a huge jackass by doing that, didn't I?'

It wasn't really BM, Ruin was making it in a place where Soulkey couldn't see it. It took a long time into the game until he saw it, Ruin did it to be cocky showing the audience that he was confident. Still not a nice move but not BM directed to Soulkey like for example manner mules and the like.

Maru! Terran champion I believe.

So far every player on SKT T1 is in Code S apart from Fantasy and Bravo. I think Fantasy will make it too.

Kinda unexpected... Soulkey has not been top form, very surprised to see him move on

Yeah, he was understandably crushed after the loss, but his response during the last few minutes of the game showed a sense of humour about himself. Not surprisingly he did not tilt and cruised past Reality with a manner Nexus to boot.

Ruin is now my favorite wildcard. How does that!!!? I was i n pain after Dear's 4x manner, but this was worse. Dem minerals vs. Soulkey best Zerg last 2(?) years. Wuuuut! <3

that ruin - reality match was so nice, I liked it a lot.
I'm liking the new code s players until now. Let's see how it goes from now on.
|
hey where i can find the vods for code A?
|
|
I like mouzsports really.. but what they did with Dear feels really bad.. unforgivable even really..
perhaps Dear himself has fault in this, but man - that's really a destruction of talent - right in front of our eyes..
|
Dear isn't that good, so nothing lost there. Congrats to ruin though!

The toss Ruined it and then got a Reality check....
I think thats how the casters described it.

I hoped for that too, but seeing his latest matches, I don't know what to say. His decision making is terrible, and his micro is quite bad, I swear that right now he has the worst Force Fields out of all other Korean Protoss pros.

That's a lot more zerg than I expected

Not a lot of people talking about it but zerg is actually doing pretty well right now in general. they haven't been able to close out a premier win in 2014 yet thanks to soO but aligulac shows that they've had a slight edge in both zvp and zvt over the last month. Nothing huge. Also, the zergs in these groups were just a good level above their opponents for the most part thanks to Dear just completely bombing out

That "S" pylon art Ruin did reminds me of Day9's timmy story
|
Ruin is such a baller.
+ Show Spoiler +also... Wow three Terrans in Code S. Gotta nerf them bunkers soon....
