After a marathon quadruple tie-breaker, SK Telecom's ParalyzE won the GSL Code A wild card tournament to take the final spot in the upcoming Code S tournament. The wild card tournament was held between the twelve, third place finishers of every Code A group in order to fill the spot left open by jjakji, who had forfeited to compete in WCS Europe instead.
Starting with twelve players, the wild card tournament came down to a three way contest between ParalyzE, Dream, and Cure. The Code S spot was set to go to the first player who could win two games in a 3-way round robin, but the players tied at 1-1 four times in a row. In the fifth go around, Paralyze was finally able to go 2-0 and take claim the prize.
The Code S player list has been finalized, with the tournament set to begin on February 5th.
Paralyze is quite cewl, Woulda hoped for Stork or something tho, but this is definately something in itself! I guess some will be upset about another toss tho xD
Just like i say every GSL round: Fuck me, this is some serious amount of skill in one tournament. I consider at least half of them to be worthy of Code S. Imo like 1/4 of the players could win the tournament.
edit: I am missing Bomber, Taeja, TLHero and Jaedong . I guess making foreigners look like scrubs and getting money for it has also its benefits :D.
I predict a repeat of 2011 GSL October and there will be only one of the least represented race in the round of 16. But this time Maru will make the finals and heroically stand his ground against Dear.

I was really hoping that Dream could have pulled out a win in one of those 5 attempts to finish the group. Well, at least afrotoss can be a crazy and exciting person to watch.

How insanely nerve-wracking must that have been each time. Holy crap.
"...but the players tied at 1-1 four times in a row. In the fifth go around, Paralyze was finally able to go 2-0 and take claim the prize."
On another note - Life v Maru finals would be amazing.
I think Maru is going to have twice as many people cheering for him as usual - I hope for the popularity of the tournament that he at least makes it to the semis.
Last year I predicted jaedong to win wcs season 2, season 3 and the grand finals. He came second instead so many times. This year I thin maru is gonna get second to jaedong. GOGOOGOG JAEDONG WHOOO
Im gonna forget for a moment that he is toss and say gratz to paralyze because that must have been a few tough hours for all involved and he managed to stay strong.
While I congratulate Paralyze to pass 6 rounds of head-to-head-to-head, that seemed like one helluva nerve-wracking experience for all three players involved. Imagine a finals between three players doing this, but with BoX above 1.
Hopefully the 16 spend the majority of their time practicing PvP and PvZ so that Maru or SuperNova can slip into Ro16. After that though, I doubt that they'll make it that far. I feel like Maru is going to put most of his efforts into ProLeague this season, seeing as that's what's really been giving him the most success.
Maru is weak to zergs and the other pros know it. That'll probably be enough to keep him from the finals. If Life is in good form, he'll probably win Code S.

haha ^^ i tryed that as protoss in the past and most of the times. there was no protoss left ^^
While I agree with you, cos I had the same thoughts before, I just wanted to precise that 1 toss in RO16 only happened once iirc. In other GSL they were a bit more at least.

Maru is weaker to zergs. But he is not weak to them. He definitely has a chance. The problem in this GSL are the maps though. They suck so much that anything can happen.
it's too bad that so many of the talented Korean Terran players have gone to the other regions. bomber, TaeJa, Polt, aLive to AM Mvp, forGG, jakji, MMA to EU
that's a lot of Terran players that could have potentially been in code S, but aren't. WCS not being region locked like in 2012 seems to have really hurt the whole system.
Super sad for all the terrans. I pretty much only watch terrans cause i cant stand zvp lategame and pvp is meh and zvz... well... dunno not my cup of tea... and i bought a ticket =( 50 dollar out the window sigh :/
I can never vote for paralyze after that Code A game against Soo about a year ago which was followed by a defeat 'celebration' and the comment from Khaldor 'Is he high?'

He could be facing zergs like Life and Soulkey in the first round. A little weakness is enough. Maru was my favorite player in 2013, but I don't have high hopes with the current state of SC2.
everyone complaining about Protoss seriously? The 2 Terran's had a chance to take 2 games in TvT and couldn't do that either, so blaming this on Protoss is just ridiculous.

Imo only Bomber and Taeja are Code S level. I mean, look at Maru and TY for instance. Their multitasking and micro macro is insane, i just cant imagine you could come even close without kespa bootcamp. Taejas performance always surprises me, he seems a born terran. Also Polt's games are gonna be interesting, lets see if he can keep up with the top.

lichter has no taste if he couldn't see the value of that game. The sad part is, I remember that game way more than I remember the games of the finals between Soulkey and Innovation for that season.

Only Bomber and Taeja? Jjakji literally was just Code S, that's why these matches were held in the first place. MMA also seems to be Code S level, giving players like Bomber and Innovation really tough matches, beating Jaedong, MC, sometimes Taeja. And I think Polt, Mvp, and forGG could maybe be Code S level.

All this fuss about Protoss is stupid. An equal (-1) number of Zergs have qualified to code S. And 16-13 is an acceptable ratio.
It's more about Terrans sucking than Protoss doing that good. If Blizzard launches the nerf hammer on Protoss, no doubt we will be back to late WOL with utter and complete Zerg domination.
wow I thought they were kidding about there being 3 terran, but it did look like a lot of terran where going mech this season wouldn't be surprise if they lost it, also loving the raven been used in mech look like it will be the way to go and hopefully in bio which I been saying raven been underestimated. in a full on engagement raven is a beast. Still have a mix feeling on window mine was it really necessary for them to nerf it was a double edge sword for terran it could wipe out a zerg unit and also a terran unit like for example when forgg vs. stephano :D that was funny.
And Maru will win it all to say "screw you!" to every other terran in the world :D Seriously though, other players might be less prepared in XvT in a tournament setting like gsl. They will have to prepare for protoss and zerg much more. Hots was so good to watch when Innovation was dominating I know never ending push was a little bit strong but it was really fun to watch with combat all the time

Yeah, the push was strong but DRG killed Innovation using good zergling splits before the WM nerfs. Now we are back to hellions banshee into turtle mech retard-ness. Flash showed a good game with his siege tank harass squads in SPL, but i doubt this style works on a ladder map.
Its sad that it has turned out this way for Gom. I will not buy a ticket this year and I have had one for the last year atleast. This is only due to the lack of Terrans, something I know they cannot influence but I just wont find it interesting to watch PvPvZvP :/

Still gonna watch but only anything involving Maru since i am not that interested in Jjakji and supernova(although i heard some rumor that supernova does mech vs toss ? or was it gumiho ? because if it was him i will definitely watch his matches). Everything would be just boring with mass amount of PvP and ZvP's. Well ZvP is not really that boring and is entertaining at times that is if you watch it mixed with different matchups but without watching other buffer matches before or after it(tvz, tvt, tvp) it becomes uninteresting.
If it comes down to Life vs Maru that will be the best present I could ever ask for! :D Toss is pretty strong right now but it wasn't too long ago that a Toss couldn't win a tournament to save their life, so remember that before you whine about balance. I mean how long of a drought was it for Toss before Dear won WCS KR and finals?

oh yeah i could remember a lot of conversation here in TL wanting for Maru and Life have a series since both are really impressively solid and crazy in their playstyle. It will be really nice to see that. The worst case scenario would happen if both of them will be together in r32 group and eliminated together and not even meeting once in the same group.

Protoss has won 4(MC x2, Seed and Dear) of the 18 Code S seasons, so i think its fair to say its time for a toss to win again.
This game happened in Round 3 of Code A, so the winner was going on to Code S. Obviously Paralyze is better than this, but it is just too funny to forget.
Meanwhile, Zerg players are rejoicing at the fact that since they have almost as many Zergs in Code S but slightly less, they're dodging the Terran whine storm
It's unfortunate that there are so few Terrans in this Code S, but I can't help but feel it's karma for all the Toss haters who celebrated Code S having 5 Protosses and claiming that the 1-1-1 wasn't broken.

It's like when terrans are behind in a series and 11/11 rax because it's almost a free win -- except back then 1-1-1 basically was a free win
I still remember Heart using it every tvp in an mlg I think it was (Huk in particular comes to mind)... never forgiving that man.
Just remove Terran and give the spots to Zerg for perfect balance. :D
Gonna be fairly boring for me as I dislike any matchup with Protoss. But in Proleague there have been a few good ones lately so perhaps it will change, but... that remains to be seen. Grats Paralyze anyway!

No. The better player deserves to win, you should NEVER factor in that 'race X won less' and see that as a reason for X to get a win.

it was not my point that protoss deserve to win because they have won less tournaments. Was just pointing out that protoss has won less even if they are considered imba. I am fully aware and totally agree that the best player deserves to win any given tournament, in hindsight I probably could have dropped the last part of my post.
Interestingly, of their 5 code A players, their 2 Terrans Bravo and Fantasy were unsuccessful, however their 2 protoss (Classic and Paralyze) and 1 Zerg (Dark) all advanced to Code S. The SKT Terrans are letting the team down >
I wish people would stop commenting on the races though, it's pretty clear the real story here is how dominant SKT have been. I don't think one team has ever had this many players in Code S before - over half of their roster have qualified for the hardest 32 man tournament in the world. Only Journey, Sorry and Sacrsi didn't make it to Code A.
Ridiculous team. It's hard to believe they only made third in PL round 1!

the worst that could happen right now is non of the 3 terrans can go to r16 and take the last places in their group in r32.. Don't forget that both WCS NA and WCS EU can be won by a T player, in fact, there may be TvT for 1st place. Taeja vs Bomber and MMA vs jjakji. In that particular case RO16 Code S without T players is just sad story and that's all. Be careful about your wishes, they can come true

Nice reply, that's some good research, I didn't realise oGs had that much domination at the time... Although, back then there was probably an easier field because the Kespa players hadn't switched over yet. They also had a lot more players on their roster - they may have acquired that many in Code S simply because of the sheer number of players they had at the time (I think I recall it being around 15+?).
Perhaps it's a similar story with SKT, but the fact that of their 12 players, 7 of them (and all but one Z/P on the roster) are in Code S is pretty insane. I feel bad for players like Paralyze who simply isn't likely to see much of proleague even though he is posting solid results - there's just too much talent for players like him to stand out on that bench.
Parting, Rain and Soulkey are pretty much a lock on every game, and the fourth slot is being rotated between Bravo, Classic, Fantasy, Paralyze and soO. Lol
Edit: I don't think Dark has been played once, lol.

It will be very interesting to see how the three do.
