It seems Marineking is returning to SC2 from LoL
According to e-sports officials, he has temporarily stopped practicing LoL and started to practice SC2 in order to qualify into the SC2 Pro League 2. Recently he has been ranked 18th in Grandmasters, more than enough to enter the qualifiers for Pro League. He is also steadily increasing his streaming time as well (he was already streaming SC2?).
An e-sports commentator has said that from observing MarineKing's practice, his unit control hasn't changed much since he switched to LoL. The same commentator believes his return to SC2 and into Pro League would greatly benefit the latter as well.
In last year of October, Marineking switched to LoL and was recruited as a backup for Prime's team . However, since then, he hasn't played in any of the broadcast events for the team. He will be the 4th player to return to SC2 from LoL following sC, Puzzle, CoCa.
According to an official from Prime: "If MarineKing returns to (Prime), it'll be a a boost to the team, but no decisions have been made"

At least this is great news, hope he can come back to his peak and get more second places in GSL! Even though, with his break, I think it will take him some time to come back to a very good level!
Not much of an MKP fan myself, but damn if he isn't fun to watch. It's always great to have anyone with skill return! Maybe some distance will make MKP realize that he can't just do the same BO every game. If he smartens up, he could be amazing since he has some fantastic micro at times.
Strange that he didn't decide a few weeks ago so he could have tried to qualify for the GSL. I wonder what changed in the last few weeks...

MKP has done nothing in LoL, and his SC2 skills are out of a slump, as evinced by his top 18 GM position. Even if he cared about winning more than money, returning to SC2 is still a good decision.

A pro-gamer's dignity lies in the beauty of the play. Aside from over-the-top BM, the game is all I care about. If MKP produces good results, what does it matter to anybody why he returned?
Will be overjoyed to have MKP back, I only hope he comes back with more then 2 rax and 3 CC builds, his predictability was always his downfall when he had potential for great things.

To all those who believe MKP is going back to Prime, this was all a trap planned by SKT. They wanted MKP to join their LoL team, but never intended to let him play. When he decides to give up on LoL, they would then transfer him to the SC2 team. This was all a long and elaborate plan to get a player trade from Prime to SKT!
Anyway, troll conspiracy theories aside, I do hope he does well upon his return. Doubt it'll happen though, but it won't stop us from loving the guy.

hopefully if he comes back then he's not going to 3 cc 2 ebay every game or something since at one point, he seemed to get into this mindset that you had to do that against zerg all the time. I think he ended up getting wiped out 2-0 by life pretty fast lol

I hope he comes back and does well. he played in the IEM qualifiers this week and lost 0-2 to Cure in the first round, but then Cure went on to 2-0 Maru as well in the qualifier so I feel less bad about that result. Good luck MKP!

So it's not an official statement saying "yes, he has returned for sure." Not to be a ball buster here but I think we should lock this thread or close it for the time being.
If it does happen, Prime would have a halfway decent lineup with Creator, MKP, KassiA and Jila. Still would be weakest Proleague team but would have more of a shot. So I hope it does happen just for competitiveness reasons. But I wouldn't read too much into MKP's ladder ranking, he's always been better online than off.

well we never even saw him play in real official matches too in LoL because according to article, he was a back up member for team Prime. he must be real bad in LoL to be Prime's Back up team

They'd certainly be better, though you have to think back to GSTL 2013 S1 and recall that a MKP/Maru/ByuN/Creator lineup got stomped by practically every team (including NSH). Though to be fair, this is before Maru had his huge breakout during OSL, and Creator looked kind of helpless around the start of HotS; much worse than he does now in SPL.
What always confuses me is why did Prime never sign any players to replace Maru when he left? There's no shortage of strong teamless players out there, from KangHo to Oz/aLive/Revival... any one of those players would instantly be #1 or #2 on Prime. I guess the obvious answer is no money but if you don't have the money to afford anything better than Creator and a bunch of rookies... I don't know.
It does seem like Prime's always preferred to develop talent internally than to sign established players. ByuN is pretty much the only signing of an already-established player I can think of in Prime's history.

If you look at the top tier terran players, there was only Innovation and Flash ("top tier") in code A. Maru didn't need to qualify and everyone else seems to be in wcs AM (lol). People complaining about code S need to realize that. I'm not happy with that many zerg and protoss players. In fact, my favorite matchup to watch is PvT. But Innovation often times loses to unexpected players (e.g. duckdeok) and Flash has been inconsistent for quite a while. Then, you have Daedalus in the map pool, which I assume is awful for terran, though probably not as awful as it is for protoss. So yeah, many of the terran players who would almost certainly be in code S aren't playing in GSL. So besides the obvious, I believe that's not a terran problem, but mostly lack of top tier terrans around along with a string of bad luck among lower leve terrans. The metagame seems unfavorable at the moment imo, though I think that's only when it come non-top terrans, but I don't think that alone is responsible for the current terran results

Low skill cap means politics in getting the top teams. reginald is like a diamond player but name recognition and reputation and other factors keep him there still.
Kinda figured, when he started streaming announcing how 2014 will be year of MarineKing, still nice to get it confirmed. MKP to teach Terrans how to micro thors ftw!
Well, it's no wonder that it is insanely hard to make a break through in LoL with all these players. Nevertheless it will also not be easy to make an influence in SC2 again. Even before "retirement" MarineKing largely was playing in the shadows of his former self. For Prime SC2 it would be nice though. So I'm hoping for a return.
If that really happens, i am going to cry. MarineKing was my reason for playing SC II and i can´t imagine the game without him. Would be great to see him back

I think he's practicing for in-house rankings or something. He should be one of the better players on Prime quite rapidly, and surely worthy of one of the 4 spots in Proleague. I don't know when he could be allowed to enter the roster though.
Terrans are not enough in Proleague although they are doing very well. He should go in another team than SKT or he will get the same play time that he got in LoL.

He will be crushed in Proleague. He has one of the most predictable playstyles ever, if he doesn't change that, he'll be sniped, sniped, sniped, sniped..

I think we should wait for tournament games before judging on that regard. MKP has always played really goofy when streaming.

I'm so glad he might come back! Hope he plays for prime in proleague. That's where we at least would see him perform because I'm pretty sure he can do a lot better than the b-teamers of prime. He and Creator could make something happen in proleague
Not a fan of his , he always striked me as a gimmick player with no indepth plan in his games , but it's good for PL and SC2 in general , because there are too little terrans . I doubt Prime can get out of last place even with him .
I'd like to hear from the pros who switched from SC2 to LoL, and then back to SC2. I wonder what their thoughts about LoL are after attempting to make new careers in it. Could they not improve quick enough? Too much competition? Too much to remember? Is it simply harder? Is SC2 just better? Pros switching back and forth is something I'm always really curious about.

That was pretty obvious and only a matter of time. Nobody knows him in LoL and probably hardly anone cares for him there while he has a huge(for some reason) fanbase in SC2. Althought I really detest him, this could be good for the game.

Hmmm I hope he's changed up his style a bit, because mindlessly rallying to the front and trying to shove your opponent down with a tempo advantage can only kinda work against zerg these days.
Going from SC2 to MOBAs seems to require too different skillsets, I would guess they do well mechanically (APM and micro ez pz), but team play might be their downfall.
Transferring between different MOBAs must be possible, though, do people go from HoN to DotA 2 to LoL?

Yeah, I think it's hard to developp a good team play on a new game with people you've never (almost never, they probably shared some games for the fun in the gaming house) played with, and since the main difficulty of LoL seems to be the teamwork, no matter how good your individual skills are, if you can't get the chemistry needed fast enough with your teammates, you won't be sent out. I hope he will play terran though, P might be better atm, it won't be as fun to watch him play P .
Marineking back to sc2 would make me really happy. especially if he would join a competitive pro league team (like jin air). well one can hope prime's kinda dead since maru left..

Yeah - he played Protoss back when he was Clare. Funny thing is, though, even his Brood War Liquipedia entry is under MarineKing.
If he does come back, I wouldn't bet against folks welcoming him back like a prodigal son. Heaven knows Gerrard and the rest of Prime can use him.

Ya, once upon a time MKP was an incredible player when it came to new build orders. Sadly he never stuck with any of them long enough to really change the match-up (but then again he revolutionized bio player in TvZ so he'll always have that). But maybe he gave some ideas to other players to shake the established order.
When his TvP was on top of the world I remember his 2-rax 17-orbital opening for a fast push with 1 marauder + marines, barely sacrificed economy (from what I could tell, by next tournament he was using different builds again) but the marauder made it so that one-stalker couldn't endlessly kite marines coming across the map to blunt early Terran pokes. It was awhile ago, so I might have had the details wrong but I really was hoping he'd expand on this opening to see if he could mix-up TvP more.
Likewise when he was doing bio-Thor compositions in TvZ I think a lot of people were hoping he could show that to be a viable playstyle. But after the teamleague Prime won I don't remember him breaking it out again.

or good Timing: In Code A Zerg have 60% Winrate (nonmirror) as well as Protoss (also around 60%). So if he starts playing now, he can surprise but if not, everyone can blame the race and say "well Flash, Innovation and many other Terrans didn't advance in other tourneys as well... so no shame" OR it is the proleague effect, where the top 3 players are... right, terrans: TY (8-0 atm), Maru(7-2) and Flash(6-2)
I know Terran is doing bad right now in the general public but we need as many good terran players as possible and I LOVE MKP i was sad the day he left.
If he really comes back, he will be disgusted quite rapidly I think. SCII isn't as fun as it used to be during his times on the game. Unless blizzard fixes the balance someday.

Maybe the second most skilled player to never win a GSL. I'd say Leenock, who won 4 international championships is still higher on that list.
