Mvp to take duckdeok's spot in WCS EU Premier

via ESL.eu

Originally, only twelve new players were to be determined last weekend. Due to the retirement of duckdeok from StarCraft II, as well as Lucifron quitting WCS, two more spots became available. Having gathered the most WCS points in WCS Europe 2013, Mvp takes duckdeok's place and advances to the Premier League. Mvp's and Lucifron's Challenger spots have been filled with the seventh and eighth place finishers (Revolver and strinterN) of yesterday's Wildcard Qualifier.

As god intended when he created MVP to rule us all. DuckDuck was told to retire in a dream so he could cede is place to the chosen one.

If NASL does the same thing, I think Taeja would get Hack's spot in WCS AM premier. The top four point scorers for 2013 from AM were Jaedong, Polt, HerO, and Taeja in that order, and the first three are already in premiere.

Edit: I just noticed it Mvp's case it was points from WCS EU, not WCS generally. My statement is probably wrong, Revival at least got more points than Taeja in WCS AM alone, maybe others did too.

It's completely logical to give Mvp the spot in Premier League but I don't understand why the 7th-8th players of the Wildcard Qualifier deserve the Challenger spots more than the guys from the other qualifiers.

Koreans. It was a harder qualifier than the others.

No it was not. OK there were a couple of koreans but all the top European players already qualified before. Qualifiers 1&2 were way harder.

The last time Mvp played he had a pretty good showing at IEM, he beat Curious 4-1 in maps and 4-0 with Mech builds.

To be fair, JD was still destined for 2nd place at that point. (I'm thinking of the right tournament right?)

The time he won WCS EU and the time he won Code S for the 4th time

And the time he should've won the G5L trophy against Life but settled for second place

And the time he won IEM Cologne

And the time he almost knocked out Innovation and beat him after being 30 SCVs down

And the time he came back to destroy Curious with mech 4 times in a row just recently.

Mvp can do whatever he wants. He's just as likely to win the tournament as he is to drop out in the first round 0-4

Yes, my sentiments too. (At least they could if they had the right number of wins/league level.) The most logical replacements for the qualifiers is from the Wildcard.

I can't wait to watch Mvp get crushed in the ro32 it's going to be satisfying. He did decently well in one tournament, got crushed at Blizzcon, and doesn't play in anything else. Looks like just pandering to Mvps popularity. But hey i guess I couldn't blame them

Not really, he did the best based on WCS points compared to everyone else in WCS EU last year who hasn't qualified already.

So not too recently for the most part. Got it

The thing is, most of those events were "not too recent" before the next one happened. So yes, not too recent for the most part. That's the point.

Why did they take the wildcard 7th and 8th place and not one of the other qualifiers?
I think they should play them out between all qualifier's 7th and 8th...

This is uncool.

I love MVP, but giving away spots? No. They should be earned. It cheapens the authenticity of the competition if you do something like this.

Really? They had to promote someone and it makes sense to do it to the best player from last year in that Region.

Agree that MVP isn't that good anymore, but we often say Life finds a way. Well Mvp doesn't find a way, he bulldozes a way, usually right over his opponent.

Yes really.
They shouldn't have promoted anyone, they should have held an extra qualifier for that spot.

Well Mvp's job since early 2012(cept for being awesome of course) has been to prove doubters and haters wrong. So I can't wait to see YOU get crushed when your predictions fail big time

I understand where you are coming from. But with many of the tournaments having invites (even the original WCS EU/NA), I don't think this one is as big since they actually used WCS points from last year.

Hardly any tournament is full qualifier based nowadays.

Now you've said that all I can think is "Mvp WCS EU Champion".

Never doubt Mvp's ability to turn up and just win, regardless of his perceived strength. You'd have thought people would learn that after the Code S run when he won the final against Squirtle. >_>

Isn't JD that player that has only ever won one tournament? And that too the least premier of the premier tournaments.

Even when Mvp is bad, he can win. But even at his best, JD doesn't.

Mvp can do w/e he wants. He's one of the biggest reasons why SC2 was so popular in 2011/12. He's done enough for SC2 to warrant a seed.

I said he cheesed in one game and right now he currently is overrated... There's no denying his legacy in the past, but right now he is not good enough to win at the highest level. He cheesed in the one game, that's what it was. Don't twist my words around please.

hmm while I also thought he was a bit overrated in HoTS, taking Innovation to a game 5 after a sick recovery in game 4 (that mech game, was it 3?) then doing ok at blizzcon meant that he's at least able to hang around with the top players atm. That cheese was bold though, like Jaedong bold. He got my respects for that although I'm not a big fan of him or anything since I missed his domination period. I think having him play in RO32 will just make the tournament better overall

It's fair to give the slot to Mvp because if someone is going to make it for free it should be the person currently in Challenger who had the most WCS EU points last year. Since that's Mvp, that's fine with me.

As for his actual form, it's hard to say because he played so darn little in 2013 after S1. He didn't get very far in either S2 or S3, played a grand total of ONE game in GSTL all year (a loss against Scarlett--she all-inned him with mass banelings if I remember right?), and he got eliminated so quickly from Blizzcon that it was hard to gauge him. . so I don't know if using mass hellbats against Jaedong on Derelict indicates that Mvp was still stuck in his pre-hellbat-nerf days or that he intentionally pulled out an "obsolete," unexpected build. We'll have to see.

I look forward to seeing a couple of new innovative strategies tailor made to make a certain player look stupid on a certain map. Im kinda thinking they would have found a way to grant Mvp a seed even if he wasn´t the number one in points, the guy practically is sc2 for part of the community.

of course, I don't think it's a bad idea to give it to mvp especially if he had the most points but didn't qualify or something. Just pointing out that he went toe to toe with Innovation when he was in beast mode and almost won. That by itself showed that his skills are still there and he can be a potential champion again.
