Jan.15~Apr.5: GSL S1. Feb: Gomtv Classic S4.(BW) Apr.9~Jun.28: GSL S2. Apr: Global Championship Jul.16~Oct.4: GSL S3. Dec: Hot Six Cup
Global Championship will be a tier 3 Global league which includes not only players in Korean region(GSL), but also players in America and Europe. Gom said they will make an effort to make players like innovation or Jaedong able to participate. At the moment, the plan for it is a Ro8 format, which includes 3 winners and 3 runner-ups of each region, and 2 from online qualifier.
The first season of GSL 2014 will be sponsored by Hot Six. Code A will start on January 15th, and Code S will follow on February 5th.
The future of GSTL is uncertain at the moment due to the lack of teams. However, it may return as a short term team league including some(or all of) KeSPAa teams. It's being discussed with KeSPA.
The return of GOMTV Classic(BW) is not planned as a continuous tournament at the moment, but if fans' feedback is good, it may continue.

Before anyone interprets this as Innovation switching WCS regions, he's not, they just mentioned him because he turned down Hot6ix last month to play in Asus ROG.
I was actually think about the possibility of GSTL becoming a bracket-based team-league with kespa teams last night. Would be very cool if they could make it happen.
GSTL being discussed with KeSPA? It might be some kind of STX Masters, winnerleague only, which is nice considering SPL completely abandoned this format

Merge what teams in? There's like, 1 team left in eSF.
And we need to get those boys in!
They can just join kespa like IM, MVP and Prime did. No need for a merge. Unless you want GOM to broadcast SPL? Personally I think this Proleague season is perfectly fine as is, casters, location, etc.
This all looks fantastic! I hope that having a Brood War tournament again also helps to reel some more Korean people into watching some SC2 and forgiving it for having an impact on BW's success, as well as to really love GOM and side with them after KeSPA abandoned BW. It would be wonderful if GOM (in addition to Sonic, LoveTV and other BW tournaments) helped both BW to flourish again but also helped SC2 to become more popular in Korea.
This is all very exciting/I think will be amazing.
What really caught my eye though was this:

I would love a very 'compressed' team-league as opposed to the long-term SPL!! This would allow stories to develop more rapidly!

Unless they bring back hybrid Proleague to transition back to BW, then that'd be wonderful.
No, as a BW fan, no all it would do is kill the teams.
BW wont ever again have a PL (Sonic's KOTH is the best it can manage), BUT I do see a mid tier budget individual league with potential personal sponsorships for the best players being sustainable for a couple of years.
This is going to be great! It was kind of sad to only have 3 GSLs per year imo compared to the 5/6 there was before! And having more than 1 tourney per year with the winners of each region is going to be great!
On a side note, it's going to be interesting to see Gom come back to BW!
Good news. More GSLs and BW as well. Hopefully the BW tournament continues and that it also helps the SCII scene

Some units are stronger(or weaker) in BW. Macro is different but there are a lot of similar units, just different damage output and such. As long as they have a competent caster for BW, I don't think you'll have problems understanding it with only SCII knowledge

Wait so we get WCS + Some World Championship kind of league + Hot6ix cup + Brood War!? Incredible. I was really pissed about the change from gomtv.net to twitch/youtube, but with this kind of content I can only love gom again!
Seeing GOM trying to save GSTL makes me happy, I liked watching it. Here's hoping negotiations with KeSPA go well, considering the state of the eSF at the moment I don't think they can object too much without shooting themselves in the foot.
Hopefully if the GSTL returns AxA partnership will return and watching AxA face off against KeSPA will be really interesting to see.
That BW tournament, would be cool if that happened. I know nothing of BW and I'd love to actually watch games, maybe Jaedong, Flash and Stork could play and my appreciation of Flash and Stork would increase.
Nice to see some news that isn't all doom and gloom for a change. Really excited and happy for all of this. Though I still really want more T1 and T2 tournaments in Korea to sustain the scene, the Global Championship thingy is nice and all but it sounds like it will distribute the prize money to people that already made it into the money, where as more GSL esque tournaments help everyone involved.

Since GOM is already the partner for WCS I don't think we should turn to them for T1/T2 tourneys. I think our hopes should lie in either OGN doing another OSL and/or SPOTV doing their own individual league.

Yes, please. Even though there's not much left of the StarTale I loved.

I agree. Another cup for those who have already won isn't really what I wanted. I would've really liked a giant open tournament, where all players participate, regardless of WCS region.
That said, I look forward to another year of GOM serving me delicious SC2 (and BW :O) action!
Is it weird that I look forward to GomTV Classic more than the Global Championship? I mean JangBi is gonna be there, so there's the biggest reason, but still...
I'm pretty stoked to see the GomTV Classic returning but I can't help but wonder how the players feel about it. I mean, doesn't anyone remember when KeSPA did one last BW season in the midst of the SC2 transition? It seemed like everyone was suffering to some extent because of dividing their time between games. As much as I'm excited at the prospect of it I have to wonder how the players feel about it and if we'll be seeing sub par play in both tournaments because of it.

This may actually contribute towards reanimating the living corpse of Tasteless.

Whoever isn't a finalist of the 3 regions but GOM feels still deserves a spot, due to skill and popularity. I could probably see Naniwa getting a spot since GOM does want this to be a global tournament, and likewise for Scarlett, but this tournament is still a ways off.
Edit: Oops, misread online qualifier for invites. Disregard

It's 6 fanalists-2 for three regions- and 2 from online qualifier. Nobody will be invited unless he or she achives to one of the finals (unless there is some forfeit maybe?)

GOM Classic tournament is just for those who are already playing BW. Players will not be playing both games. It's different from the hybrid league you are talking about.
Well I'm happy they are at least doing 1 extra event (or 2 counting the BW one) but I was hoping for more... This year sucks. I hope they change the GSL format since they have all this extra time. Make group stages bo5 or bo3 round robin please. Anything to get more games.

Were you unhappy with last year and 2012's GSLs? Maybe this is some lingering preference from BW, but I feel like 3-4 "real" starleagues a year + whatever special tournaments and weekend tournaments you want to throw in is the way to go. There was a distinct oversaturation of content, I felt, in 2013 and keeping the same amount of GSLs but running them for longer can help build hype if done correctly. Now, if you just want to watch more games (you'd be in the minority I think), then obviously this isn't what you'd like, but I think it can turn out great if Gom handles it right.

I really don't mind boxer/yellow/reach showmatches, but I really just don't understand why smb would want to watch a Flash/JD/Bisu showmatch (thank God that at least one of them is still playing BW).
Seeing them play poorly would kill their invincibility aura.
Well the first announced players are Sea, JangBi and Yellow, so I guess it will continue as that - Sospa guys (inb4 Bisu, Killer, maybe hero, ssak or Hiya) + one or few old legends (like maybe Nada, Boxer etc..) I don't see current SC2 players playing in it.
