Yoda and First's contracts with IM are now expired, and it seems like they will find new teams.
They are looking for foreign teams, and they have already chosen Europe for their WCS.
IM Coach Kang said, "It's true that the contracts are expired. It's a shame that we didn't support them good enough. Good luck for the players in their new teams."
|
IM can't support as many players without the LG sponsorship, sucks to see them go but it can't be helped I suppose.
|
Well it's cool that they're not retiring. GL to both of them.
|
Oh well i hope they can indeed find new teams
|
I think mouz has 2 open spots...though I'd be rather mad if they dropped maNa to pick up more Koreans
|
IM still has a pretty ridiculous lineup even after these guys walk. It's cool to see players mobilizing from Korea to compete in foreign lands.

From my experience, it is actually more often than not the players themselves that wants to part ways either to for a breath of fresh air, or because he believe he is worth more than what was being offered.

Well certainly a 5 man proleague doesn't help teams who have large rosters, because it reduces opportunities to play, and there's still a smaller number of WCS events like last year, so they probably see more chance to earn money and play abroad, since 3 or 4 WCS per year and maybe a handful of proleague games might not be appealing, from a leaving IM perspective obviously, not Mana.

Good luck guys. I wish they would've tried to make it work in KOR

Yoda in WCS EU makes me happy. I hope mouz picks both of them up
|
so, they have to be top 4 players on the EU ladder to even get in challenger. GL when jjakji is playing. I wonder if they really understand the new wcs system ; ;
oh and im guessing innovation will qualify through ladder as well? unless hes going back to korea
|
Liquid Yoda. TL needs another sick terran :D... or a protoss - but please dont let it happen
|
Is Alliance looking for players? MC, Yoda and First plus naniwa and SortOf, pretty good team for ATC
|
I think the Korean scene is just not big enough to support as many players. But if those Koreans think they'll have it easy in EU or NA they will have a rude awakening. There are not nearly enough big foreign teams to support all these Koreans. I guess we'll see a bunch more retirements in the near future which is sad. But SC2 is just not big enough for so many professional players
|
nooooo! D:
Too much sadness in such little time.
Maybe Acer will finally get a protoss and pick up First or something.

Damn, that's really sad, I hope both of them do good and go on to have long and fruitful carers, also hope IM can raise some new blood, just like they always have, they could use another zerg and terran.

Do we know if they plan on moving to Europe or not? I'm okay with it as long as they move there and support the scene by mingling with the EU scene, playing with the players, and raising the level of competition.

Can't they just hold all the WCS in Korea? It would be much cheaper for the teams to bring the few Europeans and Americans to Korea that reach the offline stages, than to fly half of the Koreans out for a few days.

It's frustrating. WCS was supposed to give us regional champions. Instead we have a watered down WCS Korea, basically no American proscene left and Europe slowly diminishing too.

As far as I'm considered, WCS should be a place for the best of the best. I cannot see why there's even an argument to support players just because they're from a specific region. It's their job to become the best they can be, not Blizzard's job to give worse players free money.

The problem is unless they get a team and have a team house it would be almost impossible for them to do that.

There are a bunch of teams in Europe with team houses. I don't know if they have to money for Yoda and/or First specifically, but there's no shortage of teams that could house players in a perfect world.

With Mana leaving mouz and First moving to Europe...

Hm, atm there are so many free agents but only very few teams investing. I hope that Yoda and First won`t get shitty deals.

So as far as i understand they will have to go trough the wildcards qualifiers since they are not legal resident of the EU. I hope europe holds and send them back home quickly, lets cheese them all in qualifiers !
Not to be an ass but those 2 players unlike some other koreans (NaRa,MMA,wacK,ForGG,daisy,Stardust,Jjakji,dragon...) have literally nothing to do in europe, they have been showing absolutely no interest in the EU scene for ages (no online tournament and only coming to the event they were invited ie : no qualifier participation ), they don't speak English, they don't stream...NOTHING. If some korean wants to come in EU fine but at least give us some that have showed interest in our scene before (Solar,Trend,emotion....). Really screw those 2.

I'm getting more and more curious about the new qualifier format and I really hope there will be a lot of casters following this as well! The qualifiers, and particularly with the 4th qualifier for the 6 wild cards, have the potential to be more interesting than the challenger matches imo! I just wish that we could get rid of all the barcode names to easier see who has 200 wins on the Gm ladder.

Ya Barcode name are pretty annoying, especially when trying to figure out things like that. There should be a database or something with all the known Barcodes for easy referencing. I know that kinda defeats the purpose of a barcode, but it's not like during a game someone will pull up the database and go search for the one they are playing. So it could work.

exactly, he lives and works in Switzerland full time

Unless I have misinterpreted the rules the ladder wildcard slots have a qualifier themselves for anyone in Masters or Grandmasters with 200 of more wins, not just the top 4 players in GM. So jjakji, First, and YoDa will most likely be playing in that qualifier.

It's interesting that Liquid has not picked up a player in so long. And also that EG hasn't been quick to replace their losses, which have been many. Maybe these foreign teams are realizing that if they just support 1 or 2 stars (Jaedong, Taeja), they'll get just as much exposure for their sponsors as if they supported a bunch of players.

As much i love IM team and two of my fav players are there MVP and Nestea..i guess they wouldn`t be around if KESPA players came at the same time as they..but SC2 getting better and team IM fighting...!!!!love form Bulgaria

Any word on the teams they're gonna join?

Yoda is a great player hopefully he finds a good team.
|
Of all the recent players to become available I see Yoda as the most viable pickup for Liquid. The guy is good, kind of under the radar and has massive potential for improvement. Pick him up Nazgul
|
Both are players with enormous potential. If someone picks them up and gets them to fully realise this potential, they'd have some world class players on their hands. First and YoDa were two of my absolute favourite players on IM, and I'm really sad to see them go, especially since IM playing proleague to me meant First and YoDa being key players on the IM team. But I'm also not a very sentimental person, so I'll move on very quickly.
On January 01 2014 06:33 aezhyx wrote: It just me or is IM dwindling down at an alarming rate D: Nah, think of this in terms of a shuffle. For a while IM has recruited players, amongst them Squirtle, Byul and Trap. Now in turn they have to let some players go. IM isn't dwindling at all, in fact this is exactly what defines IM; staying relevant by not falling into the trap of getting complacent, fostering talent and not being afraid to give new players exposure. Though we let go of some old players, we've kept the roster alive by recruiting players and seeing them become stronger while on the team. I do think IM is sorta between rosters at the moment though, there'll be some downtime after which the team should emerge in a strong state. And hey, Proleague is the perfect way to do this. IM hwaiting!

Explain what the difference is between Jjakji's situation and Sase's is again, I didn't get it. Why was Sase not allowed to participate in the Taiwanese qualifiers? Sase has been living in Taiwan since... when, and has a visa since when...?

Good luck to both players. Hopefully these 2 really talented guys can get picked up quick

IM just lost two of their best core players Sad to see them go! Good luck to the both of them though.

Acer should pick up its First Protoss, if you know what I am saying
But I'm a bit sad that Yoda is no longer on IM. Their team does not look as deep for PL

Ok. Maybe he is staying there on a tourist visa or something like that then. I'm not interested in details per se, I just hope everyone get a fair treatment and that the same rules applies everywhere. Sase will hopefully do well in WCS EU instead, which makes it a lot easier for me to watch him play.

When Kespa switched to SC2, the influx of new players took the scene past its sustainability point. I think all these retirements recently are less about the popularity of the game declining, and more about the game naturally getting back to a point of equilibrium.
