According to Daily Esports, the contract between Bomber and Startale will end on the 31st of December, 2013.
Startale Coach Won, Jong Wook says "I want to say thank you to Bomber who has devoted for the team. I wish him to achieve in the new environment, America. Even though he leaves, we will always cheer for him for he always does his best"
Bomber now looking for his new team. If a team is interested, they can contact to Bomber now. It was known that he is going to participate in the "Ladder Wildcard Qualifier" for the next WCS NA season.
Additionally, RedBull, long time sponsor of Startale, posted an interview with Bomber.
You have been a member of StarTale for quite some time and we know you have a very close relationship with the coaches and players, how hard of a decision was it to leave?
This was really tough choice but I only have one to two years left before I join the military so I want to focus more on traveling and competing in tournaments outside of Korea.
You have been on Team StarTale since 2010, what was your favorite memory from your time with them?
Living and practicing with all those guys was great, but the best memory I have was probably the GSTL Finals at the 2012 IPL event in Las Vegas.
So as of now you don’t have a team to play for, what are your plans?
I think it'd be pretty cool if I could have my own team, be a player and a coach.
Oh really? If you can pick two Koreans and two Foreigners to be on your team who would they be?
The top two foreigners in StarCraft II are NaNiwa and Scarlett so for sure I’d pick them. For Koreans I’d have to pick two of my old teammates, Life and Hack.
Looks like the new year is going to bring a lot of changes, especially with you moving to WCS North America.

I am pretty sure Bomber already has a deal in place with another team. He has been on Startale so long. Maybe team Redbull will form with Bomber at the core.
wonder how the situation with Bomber and Redbull is going to pan out. Strange for him to leave the team that they sponsor while they personally sponsor.
I think it would be cool if EG picked him up, it would definitely be great for him as he's trying to focus on American tournaments it seems. I doubt EG is willing to spend the money though.

They'd also most likely have to look at how RedBull is going to handle his personal sponsorship ontop of their own Monster sponsorship which would be conflicting if they both kept up I believe.

Wasn't his RedBull sponsorship just through StarTale?

In a year iirc
Even two years, as i remember.
Hope he won't join any team tbh, personal sponsorship by Red Bull is nuff, i guess. Having guy with one of the biggest fanbases nowdays is big promotion for Red Bull. But if he joins someone, i hope it will be [A] :D Acer have stacked terran lineup already, EG have nuff with JYP and JD (even if Terran Korean is logic signup)...Team Liquid? :D But after mouz got Dear, i guess it's better for not expecting anything. My bet is on Axiom. Just for lulz.
It's a bit shocking if he left StarTale without having at least a verbal agreement with another team or sponsor... I suspect this "looking for a new team" is just him trying to boost his salary (not that I have anything against that).
I'm a bit worried for StarTale now though; losing their captain and most consistent top player of 2013 is going to hurt. Their roster is not as deep as it once was...
For those of you who are saying shit like "Wow unexpected...", it has been known for a long time now that he will be going into military service soon, and this season was going to be his last. Red Bull had an article about him on their website talking about how the last Red Bull Tournament would be his last chance at a championship. So there's really nothing too sudden about this at all. It's been planned for a while.
Edit: Unless something has changed since then... But the Red Bull article made it seem like he was done after this year.

no, he still has at least a year, RBBG was definitely not his last chance.
this is probably a great move for Bomber. He's clearly one of the top players in the world, and should be able to obtain the best possible free agent contract on the open market.
Stop with the military crap. He said multiple times on stream that he has potentially 2 years left to play if he wants to, and is gonna definitely play at least throughout 2014.
Startale still have Curious, hugely improved Hack and Life who can provide any result. And ofc some new prodigies, about which we have no idea just now. Also they have successful DotA 2 squad so they're still in good shape.

Definitely unexpected. I had a feeling he would be retiring soon for his military service, but I didn't expect him to to leave Startale for a new team.
i could definitely see him just having an individual sponsor like polt and violet. i think a lot of teams would probably falling all over to sign him IF he didn't have to go to military in a year (i heard he could possibly put that off for a couple more years or something though).

Good luck, Bomber!
He said earlier this month he still has one more year before his miliraty service duty.
wow, feel so bipolar about this... i want to see bomber on a foreign team but i'd rather watching him compete on a korean only stage. but if he does come to the states that means, he'll go to more foreign tournies, but if he comes to the states there's a chance he'll end up on an up and coming team that wont be able to grow their own talents
Good for Bomber man, it sounds like this is something that he really wanted to do, and with Military Service coming up on the horizon he wants to travel around the world competing at tournaments that he wants to do without the restrictions of a Korean team. Hopefully a good team will pick him up even though it's a short term investment. Who knows maybe if he enjoys it so much he can get a visa and end up staying or even come back after the military. Oh well, glad to see him doing something that he wants to do, hope it all works out for him!

If he is to join another team, do you guys think it will be a foreign team? Foreign teams, as I recall, have the best salary for their players and are able to give their players more luxuries such as plane tickets to all types of tournaments etc.
I really hope it's not EG, but they have the money so they certainly could if they want to. I know they have had success with Jaedong and everything, but most of their players actually end up relaxing. That could quite possibly be attributed to the fact that EG doesn't have strict training regulations as compared to Korean teams. Jaedong just seems to be self-motivated, he's a unique case.
Since the SC2 scene is so volatile, getting two years from a popular player like Bomber can be considered as a long term investment for any top foreign team (mouz, liquid, quantic, axiom)

Ofc it is because Bomber wants to play in foreign tournaments a lot, like JD did last year and there's no reason to sign with KeSPA team because of strict schedule. And there are basically no teams in eSF left except of Azubu who're gonna die sooner or later.

I wonder if EG knew of this, and it was a deciding factor in them not renewing oz, revival and alive's contracts? Assuming that is he ends up on EG.

What will actually save them is that NSL money. Thanks Dota.

Must agree here. EG is already somewhat heavily loaded, and none of us see JD leaving anytime soon. However, Taeja has been vocal (on an inconsistent level I admit,) about retiring once he "makes it big"(paraphrase). Let's face it Taeja is BIG. So if Taeja is leaving within a few months, it could stand to reason that Bombalomb would be a perfect fit. Especially considering his inclination to play foreign tournaments.

I have nothing to back this up, as I can see neither did you KenZee. However, from my understanding from a few comments I've heard Rotterdam make and Wolf\Brendan, Korean teams pay a better salary, AND the cost of living is cheaper. However, to counterpoint that, foreign teams are willing to invest more money into flights\travel\housing abroad for fun foreign tournaments (which we all love!)

In foreign e-sports, which caster has been fairly consistently allied to redbull????
Day[J] for the win. (After Hours Gaming League; Red Bull Training Grounds; Red Bull Battle Grounds)
I could see Day[9] crafting a team with Bomber, and Life and perhaps other recently released players.... Revival, Alive, Oz, etc... kind of in the style of Axiom and Total Biscuit.
Liquid never picked up players right at their top notch level. Whether it was HerO or Taeja. Nazgul picked them up before they were the powerhouses they are today.
Bomber is a great character and would fit in very nicely but i don`t think that Liquid is going to pick him up (even if i would love to see that).
I wonder who'll pick up him assuming he will retire in ~1 year. Don't see why any big korean team will be interested in him very much, there's enough of younger and not retiring talents.
Liquid, EG and Acer... Don't think so. Liquid never will sign a non zerg player ever again or so it seems, EG + Monster + RB = not gonna happen, besides they've got JD who's more popular and got much better results last year (and not retiring). And Acer got 2 top tier terrans already, who are not retiring as well. Axiom and Zombiezubu... don't think so either. Not sure of Axiom is interested in another player or can even afford it and Azubu got 9 players already, which is way too many.
Will be sad to see if some b-tier foreign team will get him though, he deserves more. But even if he will join any of those "why do they even exist?" teams (no names, so I won't start the flame war), I won't blame him. May as well get some easy cash if someone offer you that.

What about Snute? He was at his top notch level, came fresh of a Premier Tournament victory and was an established name in Europe for a long time.
Don`t see him joining Acer. They have two top notch terrans in Innovation and MMA. Why another one? Don`t see that coming.
What `bout Mouz? They`ve already signed a top player in Dear as a Protoss. Why not another Terran since Lucifron is currently not living up to his reputation.

i would be suprised if he just retire now because he had a perfect career and everyone would know him as THE MVP terran that had always good results ( i dont want him to retire like bisu where he just left sc2 just because of no results)

100% not EG. There is no way he gives up Red Bull sponsorship and he'd have to in order to join.
He's could be coming to America on a personal sponsorship. Like Polt. Or a new team (I'm somewhat exited about this real possibility. It would mean nearly enough foreign teams for a respectable pro-league style tournament.)

Liquid.Bomber u heard it here first folks! Nah, in all seriousness I think it would be really cool to see him as coach, but unrealisitic as he has to join the military soon. Would be awesome to see Acer pick him up :D

Damn, I've been used to Startale Bomber for so long, its going to feel incredibly weird seeing him on any other team. I guess I can understand his decision, he wants to travel the world and have as much fun as he can before the military, I wish him the best of luck and hope he graces DH Bucharest with his presence!
I don't think that this will effect Startale's sponsorship, I was told by a friend who does graphics for RB that Startale is sponsored by Redbull KR, which I guess is different than "Redbull".
This is of course secondhand information but..ya know. Gossip.

Bombers out for your NA money :D It's a logical decision. If you have only a year left with progaming you should try to make as much money as possible and for Koreans that means going to as many foreign events as possible.
After such a long sponsorship from Red Bull it seems weird/unethical he'd want/would get on EG. There are a bunch of good teams but I think the fact that he himself said he wanted to start a team, means he might stay independant.
I doubt anyone will buy him, he must cost so much...maybe complexity or Fnatic but EG would never take him as they are sponsored by Monster, not by Redbull. Acer won't (as said by Kaoru on twitter). I think he will stay under Redbull sponsorship.

Not as if he won the season 2 wcs finals. Got into ro4 of the wcs KR S2 and wcs global finals.
JD certainly had a better year than Bomber, but in the end it was still 1 world championship vs 0, and that's what will be in the records a couple of years from now. According to some interview recently, JD seems to consider himself still lacking that first big SC2 win.

I would like to return the compliment and say "EG Fanboyism going stupid these days". That's pretty early to assume things on how I think, but no, it's not because of the "EG curse" (note the quotes), but rather because of a personal feeling (and you can disagree with that without being rude) that Bomber on EG would be quite bad for him. Think of a mismatch, not "EG curse" or some other shit. I do know that Jaedong put some results in international tournaments, thanks for pointing it out (it's kind of obvious...). Though by your standards, Jaedong won close to nothing as well (even less than Bomber, still by your standards, not mine).
Then, Bomber has put results too, winning isn't just "grab 1st place" as you think it is (hint: it's not). Among those, winning a WCS Season Finals, multiple Ro8+ appearances, etc.

However - hope it's not EG for eSports's sake.. Though aLive, Oz and Revival got released, still don't see good reason for him to be in EG.. ESPECIALLY cause of the sponsor's sake
who's on LYGF though ?? - like there are so many of you guys saying lygfBomber, but the wiki page says like nothing in particular on their current SC2 roster, what happened on the scene so rapidly for everyone to say so but isn't on the wiki itself.. ?
Not sure if I'd like Bomber on Liquid TBH either - would be such a dominance from them, not good for the audience in some ways.. --> Probably AxBomber would be best for the both worlds (eSports scene and the Sponsorships) ATM IMO
I really dont think any Terran is going to do well in 2014, most Proleague teams dont even use Terrans (except for KT) wich pretty much means Terran isnt doing well in the practice houses. And that doesnt come as any suprice.
However, if one Terran is going to make a mark on 2014 its going to be Bomber!! He really think in seperate paths from most Terrans so he can often give his opponents some suprices, wich it what it takes to win with Terran. Also, if that doesnt work, sometimes Bomber can completely utterly outmanouver his opponent and find a Win that way.

They picked up Genius and Tassadar in rapid order and made several offers to free agents on the market (the fOu guys), at least that's what the rumor says.
Ofc it is because Bomber wants to play in foreign tournaments a lot, like JD did last year and there's no reason to sign with KeSPA team because of strict schedule. And there are basically no teams in eSF left except of Azubu who're gonna die sooner or later.
Don't you think the strict schedule is what keeps the players in check? A good example of this is EG. Everyone always jokes about the EG curse and everything, but I think it's horrifyingly true. EG has a lax schedule and JD only succeeds because of self-motivation.

They have: Tassadar (fOu) Genius (AZUBU) StuN (FXO) DynaMite (FXO) Sia (NSH) MotoK (Eternity Gaming) Mamuri (SKT)
and a bunch of koreans without notable former teams

TL has an equally lax schedule, and that doesn't seem to stop Taeja and Hero. Alive and Revival probably had their best years in a long while as well.
The "EG Curse" has always been about people creating explanations and shaping their opinion of reality to match it. Sure, there are a lot of players that need a strict coach to keep them disciplined, but players very rarely reach the top levels unless they already have the self-motivated mentality.

I can't see Bomber joining EG, not if Redbull sponsors Bomber personally. I don't think Bomber would give up his sponsorship with Redbull for Monster energy. RootBomber perhaps? lol. Root doesn't have enough money for that.
