DreamHack Winter 2013 continued on day two with the Ro16 double-elimination bracket, and ten players survived to move on to the third and final day of the tournament.
Liquid's TaeJa was the biggest winner on the day, fighting his way through HerO, MMA, and Life in the winners bracket to secure a place in the grand finals, earning a guaranteed 2nd place finish at the very worst. TaeJa also improved to an impressive 8 - 0 series record in the tournament, with 9 - 0 possible if he should win tomorrow.
Sweden's [A]NaNiwa also starred, becoming the only non-Korean player to survive amidst a sea of Korean progamers. Though he was knocked out of the winners bracket by a rampaging Life, NaNiwa was able to defeat Leenock in the losers bracket to keep his tournament hopes alive. The win against Leenock also avenged a painful grand finals loss to Leenock at April's DreamHack: Stockholm.
Click to Enlarge Several fan favorites were eliminated on day two, none more notable than Jaedong. The face of EG's SC2 division was looking to finally win his first championship of the year after five runner-up finishes, but his Swedish campaign was cut short by teammate JYP.
DreamHack continues on day three.

So... Hmmm. Who will Innovation and MMA face? Naniwa and sOs?
btw I like that the two acer players have been alongside each other the whole tournament. Both got 2nd in groups, both advanced through their first bracket match and fell in their 2nd.
|
Team Taeja lives!
Poor NaNiwa, even if he wins against JYP he then has to play Innovation. And then if he beats Innovation and also wins Loser's round 5 then he still has to play Life again. The bracket gods has smited thee.

I'm actually kinda hoping that JYP goes deep, he hasn't had results in so long it's nice to see him do so well.

Really cool to see JYP having a good result at this tournament.

It is ridiculous how good Taeja is. Will we see JYP sing tomorrow?

I am pretty sure there is no easy path; I don't see how bracket gods had anything to do with this one.

I don't particularly think JYP is very good, relative to the other players in the tourney, but wasn't he noted to have a good PvP? He has a fairly decent chance vs Nani, no? How's Nani's PvP?

According to TLPD, PvP is JYP's weakest matchup, with a 33% win rate (9-18 overall, 6-4 in his last ten games). I think (hope) that Naniwa can pull it off.

I feel like it could be Naniwa vs Inno, MMA vs sOs.. Then who knows from there. Some pretty great matchup coming up. It's insane how spoilt we are with so many star players all playing at once :D

Yeah, though according to Liquipedia, just barely. He got $15,090 from his 2nd place last year, and this year 2nd place is worth $15,244.38.
If he takes first place though, obviously that would be his biggest monetary win by a long shot.

And then Hero and Polt have to try to knock each other out tomorrow :-(

Hero vs Taeja final again? Probably Life vs Taeja actually.

As much as I want Naniwa to get to the Finals, a Taeja vs Hero finals again would be great!

Yeah, also at least half the people in the RO16 of blizzcon are in the bracket. Some have been knocked out too.

At least second place finnish means Taeja is one place closer to position of most accomplished player in Sc2 history. As much as I love Mvp, I have to admit, that difference between level of play displayed by Taeja and Mvp for last months is making me quite sure, that Mvp will not stand on the top position for ever.

I understand the need to hype foreigners but this is honestly hilarious. Getting kicked out in the ro8 and having to play a ton of loser bracket matches is being called prevail? And nowhere any mention whatsoever how Life roflstomped his way to Taeja at all?

omg! Taeja only 8 points from breaking his previous record lol His old record is tied with Polt's record so Taeja will break his elo record and make first if he gets 8 more points!

He's already smashed the aligulac record, maybe he's the flash of TLPD

Oh man, it's good times to be a TaeJa fan =D
I kind of hope he stops participating in so many tournaments soon though. I would be a sad panda if his wrists went bad again, and he can always come back next summer and remind everyone how dangerous he is.
And poor HerO... he's got to get through Polt *and* (most likely) sOs to move on. I think if he gets past those two he'll meet TaeJa in the finals.
|
Nani hasn't lost a single game yet when he went mass voids I think. He needs to stick with that.

I can seriously not decide who I think is the favorite between JYP and NaNi in PvP since both of them seem to play kinda worse than usual in it.

I'm guessing JYP, considering Naniwa's tendency to go on tilt when things annoy him. PvP annoys the shit out of him.

Jaedong T_T
My e-sports money is on Taeja now.

Were the jaedong games from day 2 any good?

I hope I am not the only one who thinks that this is one of the worst map pools, I was sure it was going to change after the ladder season ended. Are tournaments map pools locked for a year/season? If yes, its terrible XP. If not, why the hell didnt they change it?! Derelict and Akilon are outdated for 2 months now right? They could have picked other maps from crux that I am sure going to be official for the newish GSL or just, I dont know, gamble on high rated maps from other teams. They have to do something serious about map pools for next year, if they do a season for map pools, they have to make sure these are the best maps possible from Blizzard and the community mappers, if they just pick ladder maps, it will be annoying. Anyway, I wish naniwa best of luck in the next matches to hopefully seeing him playing vs Taeja and winning, but, looking at the braket I just cant skip rooting for herO, Taeja vs herO finals will be explosive (not going to be 4-0 like last time).

Here I am defending the guy again (lol - let me make one thing clear: I wouldn't call myself a big JYP fan by any stretch of the imagination but I give credit where credit is due). In saying that, there was a period where JYP was the most consistent player on the EG roster as far as Koreans go. His PvP wasn't that bad back in Wings (yeah, his record in PL isn't really reflective of that). He's always been pretty mediocre and that's not necessarily a bad thing. You do need team players and that's what he is. He belongs in PL just don't expect the World from him.
