Detailed Results on Liquipedia

The first day of DreamHack Winter 2013's StarCraft 2 tournament saw the group staged played through, determining the seeding of the players in sixteen-man double-elimination bracket. However, not all players were able to advance to day 2, with (P)StarDust, (T)SjoW, and (T)LucifroN getting knocked out of the tournament due to finishing last place in their groups ((P)Welmu had already forfited due to illness, taking the default last place spot in Group D).

The sixteen remaining players were seeded accordingly into the Ro16 bracket depending on their performances. DreamHack Winter will continue to play out on days two and three.

I know. There's a Liquid team kill in almost every tournament where there's more than 1 Liquid player. Hero and Taeja have met each other like 6+ times in the past - granted one of those was in the Dreamhack Winter 2012 finals. They should make a curse where if 3 or more Liquid players enter the same tournament, there will always be a Liquid team kill.

I like the top 4 of each group advance and it changes into a double elimination bracket with the bottom 2 going to the Losers' Bracket.

He doesn't have higher map score, both of them have +3 (6-3 vs 7-4). And since they are equal in map score, next tiebreaker is head-to-head which Patience won.

Edit: I seriously love the format of this tournament, both the group stage and double elim in the playoff.

Jesus christ people love bitching about that Liquid teamkill. First of all, it's double elimination, so neither one of them is immediately eliminated. This also guarantees a Liquid player in Winner Round 2. If they were separated, it is possible both of them could have been defeated in WR1.

Patience (Bringing his Korean A(zubu) game to Dreamhack) > MMA
Taeja > Hero
Innovation > Jaedong
Naniwa - Life (this is actually really hard to call - I think Nani will be totes ready for the young Zerg prodigy - but it is Life, and Life does find a way.)

Sick. Other than Life vs Naniwa and sOs vs Goswer there shouldn't be any stomps (didn't watched JYP's games yesterday, but if he's the usual self, then even TLO have a chance).
Also LR2 will be interesting, sOs vs either JD or Innovation and *probably* HerO vs Leenock.
Would love to see JD vs Life too.

The winner's bracket is really stacked. Innovation vs Jaedong will be fantastic.

Also, I was really impressed by Jaedong's performance yesterday. He just keeps improving, and it makes me so happy to see. A tournament win for him is inevitable, and I can definitely see him winning this Dreamhack.

I'm really pumped for Nani vs Life. Naniwa usually gives good play versus a very strong opponent, even if Nani loses he does deliver some good games (like Leenock vs Nani a while back).

Also Jaedong vs Innovation :D I'm so pumped!

It's in the order Liquipedia shows;
Patience vs MMA (starts in two hours from now)
TaeJa vs HerO (in three hours from now)
Jaedong vs INnoVation (in four)
Life vs NaNiwa (in five)

Tip: In the bracket, if you click on the small 'i' icon between the names of the players, it shows extra Info. You can see the countdown-timer per match in that way

Well, I suppose it could technically happen again. They're just not allowed to lose any of their matches after they play each other. With this lineup though... not likely -_-

Otherwise, I start to think tournament organizers put Taeja vs HerO on purpose now as some sort of running gag !

@ Taeja vs. HerO - at this point it really is quite an absurdly cruel running gag...

Jesus christ people love bitching about that Liquid teamkill. First of all, it's double elimination, so neither one of them is immediately eliminated. This also guarantees a Liquid player in Winner Round 2. If they were separated, it is possible both of them could have been defeated in WR1.

People arent bitching about it really, it just happens a lot and people are pointing it out. No need to get all angry.

TaeJa meets HerO... again...

sick line-up though

on the bright side, even if one of them loses, they can still get to the finals and win lol. Jaedong vs Innovation though, I'm not feeling optimistic for Jaedong :/ Either way, Jaedong fighting!

I'd be more worried for Innovation if I was you, and that's not because JD is a monster of a player (though it certainly helps).

I would say JD and Innovation are VERY EQUAL I would even give an edge to Jaedong. Innovation was the best TvZ player no doubt when hellbats were good and some time after the patch but he really isn't that great anymore in any matchup. He is good and among the top tier players but he is not dominating and "THE BEST RTS PLAYER" not even close.

All of the matchups that could be legendary finals are unlikely to happen due to this braket.
Life vs JD
Inno vs JD
HerO vs Taeja
Taeja vs JD
Naniwa vs anything - way too hard of a climb, I want him to go to finals but I dont think he can take out life and then right after JD or inno, and even if he wins there, HerO/Taeja/MMA/Patience still before the finals seems to be really really hard to go after you break your soul to beat the previous players)
TLO vs anything - again, way to hard of a road to take.
Leenock vs Life/JD - doesnt matter how it will go for him he will face one of them as he goes and I dont think he can beat them back to back or something like that.
Naniwa vs TLO - only in our dreams, just hope we are all sleeping for the next 2 days.
An Esports fan, playing SC2 and LoL because they are fun. Huge fan of mapmaking, Cloud Kingdom = best map ever made EVER.
