The Hong Kong Esports Tournament is set to take place in Hong Kong on August 31st, with a total $100,000 Hong Kong dollars on the line in the StarCraft II competition. The eight players who made it through the qualifiers will compete live in Hong Kong.
So... who is KingKong and why did he and FXOHurricane end up being the KR representatives? The other top KR players couldn't beat them? (or they weren't able to commit to a HK tournament?)
Also, I hope HuK eats some good Cantonese food or even Dim Sum while he's there

Confusingly enough, Hurricane qualified through the KR qualifier, KingKong through the SEA qualifier, and Rossi through the Wild Card qualifier.

KingKong is a former Startale player who moved to Australia for non-gaming related reasons, but his SC2 skills remained and thus he makes aussie lives miserable

Their website clearly states that the total prizepool is 1.5 million HKD. All the games are shown with their prize pools, and it adds up to 1.5 million HKD.
Edit: I read it both in English and Chinese and it's the same, says 1.5million total, 900k for SC2.

no? not everyone on TL knows every korean who's ever placed in a starcraft tournament...
Very well, I'll answer. B4 or BBoongBBoong was a Prime zerg and the notable 5th man in their roster (MKP, Byun, Maru, and Creator). He's been a very solid zerg with multiple code S appearances throughout his career. Hardly a no-namer is right.

Fair enough, but with their current roster he's probably the 2nd best player on Azubu right now.
Moghavem, Mohammad Ali winning the opinion poll by a land slide. Sometimes I'm so happy what the internetz can achieve when we really put our minds to it (like when you get those awesome spontaneous chain jokes in youtube comments).

This is 2013, no way Huk is favoured vs half this lineup

Not sure if trolling. But I highly doubt HuK or Lowley will take this tournament. Most likely contenders would be Hurrican, KingKong and the winnder of Sen/Macsed.

i will be taking photos tomorrow for the quarter final and final, semi final starts way too early for me T T don't expect amazing photos though, I only uses good-ish snap shot camera :p

Lots of people don't go to SC2 Tournaments unless they know there is a tournament going on.
Eh I guess I understand.
Regardless, hope there are tickets still available so I can go tomorrow! Not the most exciting players in the world to watch but great for HK to get this kind of exposure.

Nice prize pool for something so small, best of luck

Yeah, B4 crushed some great competition, and a lot of bigger names just went down in that qualifier.
Funny, because big favourites of almost every other region went through, but Korea man. Well, maybe it's time for Hurricane to finally win big. Finally.
Hey StimmedProbe here, I work for HK eSports, just wanted to give you guys an update for the casting schedule tomorrow. Maybe the OP could update the 1st post with this information?
In addition all 8 of them will receive a 'gaming gear package' which includes things like a headset, keyboard, mousepad, mouse and there are some other prizes (big and small) that I do not know about. (I am more on the production/sc2 side of things, not on the sponsorship/general management side)

If anyone but Hurricane or Sen wins I will be shocked.
Yup, those are the safe bets. Hurricane is both a badass and a mid-tier Code A level Korean, Sen is as great or better than most Code A Koreans. Macsed has got to be the dark horse though.

He used to to be primes only zerg. He's been pretty damn good at various times, and has gotten multiple multi kills in the GSTL IIRC

I believe the website's value includes the cash prize, the other non-cash prizes, the hotel costs, and the business class flights. Sorry for any confusion.

I see! Next time you should either include only the cash prize, or state that the prize pool includes those costs so that people don't go crazy about a seemingly humongous prize pool. :p

wait can hong kong really just make some random person their wcg representative? i thought wcg was strict on the representative being a CITIZEN (not resident) of that nation. there were issues in the past were players, esp. in america, were restricted because of this
On August 30 2013 16:18 beesinyoface wrote: StimmedProbe you have any idea why the website to purchase tickets is down?
Maybe it's screwing up because I'm trying to access it from China, but no way to know.
We took it down because we are sold out. There are still some walk in tickets ($20 HKD) for viewing in the foyer though. All of the auditorium seats were sold out 2-3 weeks ago though sorry.
I can't wait to be at this tournament. Got a little lucky and got the chance to help out backstage with the sc2 tournament.
I will be carrying around my DSLR and will be there bright and early (the start time favors everywhere, but Asia haha) tomorrow morning. Hoping to get some good backstage pictures of everyone.

Still, sick to see HK kids get so excited about something!

good joke Huk is hardly favoured for this.there is a Hurricane and MacSed. they are the favoured ones
I must tell you all right now that Sen is largely unfavored vs. any protoss opponent. It's his weakest match up. Regardless, all players in this tournament are strong, but I can tell you all right now I've seen MacSed beat Sen in 2 or three different tournaments.
First instance: MacSed vs. Sen @ The Beta Cup. Second Instance: MacSed Vs. Sen NGF China (Chinese event, had no english stream available.)
I can't think of a third right off hand... but I'm sure it will come to mind later.

well, he beat Huks zealot archon with mass ling/baneling. i think he should be fine
On August 30 2013 20:05 Weavel wrote: Hurricane is going to win this easily.
Is he Code S material? I think HuK is the strongest player in this entire tournament, unless maybe MacSed can pull a rabbit out of his hat.
Sen beat HuK 2-0 in Challenger league just recently... Not to mention that Macsed got to the Ro8 of Premier, only losing to players who finished in the top 4, while HuK went out in the Ro32 to two players who bottomed their groups in the Ro16 (one of whom Sen then beat in Challenger). HuK is in no way the strongest player, there are two players directly comparable to him who are looking stronger and one or two others who might be stronger but aren't easily comparable.

BreAKer Prediction: HuK wins. Calling it now...
Other than that, I think all of these guys have been WCS contenders one way or another.
hurricane is like a borderline Code S player, he's definitely the favorite to win
I mean, look at what duckdeok did to WCS EU
but PvP is volatile, so you never know :o
Yeah Tear's a lot better than his history would suggest, he's had some great showings online and in GSTL. It's gonna be close though, I mean I can see MacSed/Sen winning it all on a good day and I can also see neither reaching top 3 on a bad day. KingKong is still very much a dark horse because it's very hard to compare the SEA scene with the overall scene, and HuK is probably the most inconsistent player on the whole roster so I could see him winning it if he's prepared and focused, and I could also see him finish 7th/8th if he's not. As for LoWeLy, if this were 2012 I would definitely rate him over MacSed and HuK, but nowadays I'm not sure...
