NASL has announced the venue for the WCS Season 3 Finals - they will be held in Toronto, Canada at the Toronto Congress Centre.
Taking place October 25th through 27th, the WCS Season 3 Finals will feature 16 of the world’s top StarCraft II professionals competing for the title of Season 3 Champion and their share of the $150,000 prize pool.
As with the previous finals, the host region will be allotted an extra player slot, which means there will be 6 players from WCS America, 5 from WCS Europe and a final 5 from WCS Korea.

Not exactly, the procedures and stuff are about the same as the U.S. maybe with a little less screening? I'm not quite sure but it should be pretty similar

Its definitely much easier to get a visa Canada/China than US/China.
Much <3 to NASL for showing <3 to Canada! the last event you guys held up here was great and I can't wait to attend this one too!! Super excited this news just made my day.
Pretty terrible thing to hold it in Canada... its likely that the top 16 in the finals of WCS s3 will go to blizzcon thus resulting in having to gain another visa for a tournament that is like 2 weeks later... should of just held it in America to be safe that every one possibly attending blizzcon doesn't have visa issues.
Well, Toronto Airport more accurately.... but it will still be sick event .
Mississauga to be entirely accurate. Very close to where the NASL finals last summer were - just on the closer side of the airport and thus much easier to get to from the city.
I was at the congress center less than a month ago for a conference. It is a really huge venue. While I was at my hotel across the street i got a good picture of the venue, just incase anyone wanted to see it I posted it below.

It's funny because I actually had a fucking show there. lol Anyway, this venue reminds me of the other venue they picked. It's Dixon Rd. which isn't that bad, but your still very far out there. We knew it was going to be in Toronto and we knew the time, but now we have the location. Clue beans. I had a lot of great times there. If I'm not working I'll be there.

Terrance and Phillip?
You forgot Eskimos, Native People, Canadian Bacon, Celine Dion, Maple Syrup. Beavers, Igloos, Eh?, Nickel Back, etc. Considering I'm half American and half Canadian it's always fun talking about stereotypes that come from both places. Kids used to really like South Park's guide to Canadian culture though, ha ha.

It is Mississauga and they should treat it as such. It does make sense though because Pearson airport is right there and if you really want to get to Toronto its about twenty minutes. To get Downtown however... it's more like forty-five but its not like those guys are going to go out and party. Tons of restaurants and plenty of selection in that neighborhood though so it works out.

A concert? You're trying to compare one of these events to a concert when concerts actually have around the same amount of people and are only a few hours? That's terrible and the MTCC is used for much bigger events. Sure there might be some live music but it's actually used for stuff that is convention material. Heck it's in the bloody name. Rico Coliseum is a decent size and I do believe it would be possible to sell 7,700 tickets for an event (and that's just the rink). Rico isn't that pricey to rent out either the problem is the scheduling of the dates. To get it for an entire weekend three days straight. You better have a big advance... not only that but you better pray the Marlies are on a lonnnnng road trip. Really not an easy venue to get lol during October. It's usually booked.

If people were to ask me which cities would be good for an event I'd say Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal because these three cities act as hubs for International travel anyway. Montreal is great for the Europeans; Vancouver is great for people coming from Australia, Asia and anyone on the West Coast etc. and Toronto is well Toronto. Toronto acts as a connector between the two and I'd say it's a convenient place for mainland Americans to travel to. I don't really see a Premier League/Tournament going outside of those cities.

No. Maple syrup. A lot of it.
I hear your guys' milk comes a bag too.
Which is perfectly normal, lower production cost so it's great.
edit: So hype for WCS I already am looking for a place to stay and I figure they're will be a thread for co-drivers soon or I'll make it since Canada is a big place and I need to drive 1 500 km to get there.

I'd pay 20-30 $ more for an event downtown.
Same, the area around the venue is pretty dead, hosting it downtown would have been amazing -.-
Not that I care since it's only a 10 minute drive from my place.
I'm sure the NASL crew can match the ESL crew in making an awesome production. Can the NA fans create an even better atmosphere at the venue? Imagine a final with HuK or Scarlett!

It was the latest date they could have if they wanted the WCS Grand Finals at BlizzCon.
October 25-27 - WCS S3 Finals November 1-3 - (week off for VISAs and travel arrangements) November 8-9 - BlizzCon
In my opinion, next year Blizzard should give more time off between WCS Seasons so we can have an "off season" and more time between regional broadcasts so it isn't on 16 hours a day, 5 days a week.

Considering how Blizzard rushed all this on everyone? I think it's amazing we'll get through it all before Blizzcon. I agree with you on the scheduling heck I much rather have all the lans act as the buffer towards such a thing as I've said many times before.

I think they should run 3 seasons next year rather than the planned 4. It would give more times for international tournaments and maybe another korean league.
What I find interesting is the period between BlizzCon and 31st December. There could be a lot of tournaments there (Red Bull, DH Winter, HSC 8...)

Uhm, isn't this a bit too soon? This feels so cramped, even more for the players. Like group stage for KR starting in just 3 days? :O
I'm scared we are going to run our players ragged, especially the top players who JUST finished a tournament. IMO at least 3 weeks between the final and initiation of the next season is needed. TBH, I wouldn't mind 4-6 weeks. Are the top players getting the time needed to be creative?

Well you answered it yourself right there, trying to get Ricoh during hockey season, GL lol. 26th is a Sat, which = hockey. Wouldn't you know, Sat Oct 26 Marlies vs Rochester. 8000 seats to fill up is a lot. Ricoh is more expensive, staying downtown is more expensive, and when you're factoring in all those, you can see why they went with the safer bet.

20 minute drive from where I live (Mississauga), it should be awesome based on watching NASL last year on stream. Nothing like getting to watch high quality entertainment by the best SC2 players around the world, unlike the quality from Toronto's professional sports team *cough Blue Jays.
Well as an EU resident, pretty happy that the event is held on the Eastern shores.. If it was on the Western coast - would have been much harder to see any of it..
YESSSSSS Finally somewhere the fans are passionate about SC2. All the events in the US are complete upset compared to the one's in Canadia... definitely more fans in canada than in the US that's for sure. I guess it's because the majority of US gamers like league more since it's an easier game (use less brain power)...

Well, let's see:
WCS AM Premier League started July 16, the final was at August 23. Therefore 38 between the first group of the premier league until the finals. 38 days before October 25 is September 17. So it's probably not gonna work out if she's not lucky and getting seeded in the last group (14 days later?). On the other side they seem to consider schedule issues all over the place, so who knows? But kinda unlikely, unfortunately
I live in the Netherlands but just last week I booked a flight to visit my girlfriend in Toronto from October 25th through November 4th. Guess who'll be visiting something else as well?! :D
I do hope NASL steps it up significantly compared to their NASL broadcasts last year (and the WCS America broadcasts this year). There is not a single reason production should be any less good than Dreamhack or the WCS 2013 Season 2 finals. If this means sacking some friends, so be it, but please get professionals to do the sound and video.

World of Warcraft (when it was relatively popular) had an Intel Extreme Masters event in Edmonton once. It was so cold/blizzard that flights got cancelled, half the people didn't come, and they invited random locals instead. I'm dead serious.

This is a legit response, the rules for holding contests and tournaments in Quebec are fucking retarded, which is why most nationwide contests/sweepstakes/etc say "excluding Quebec" on them. Plus doing everything en francais would get annoying for everyone involved.
Not to mention that Toronto is just the overall better pick. Way bigger, more easily accessible, close to the US, less french people, the list goes on.
Being from Kingston I would be going either way, but I definitely prefer Toronto as a pick.
In theory I really like Toronto as the location for an SC2 event, but with the issue of Visas for players being as prevalent as it is currently, I'd have thought Blizzard would have wanted to hold it in the US, as Blizzcon is just two weeks later and many of the players who attend Season 3's finals will likely be making their way to Blizzcon as well. If it proves not to be an issue, great, but it'd suck if someone got screwed over again like viOlet and Jim have in the past.

FYI Violet forfeited WCS AM Challenger league according to Liquipedia so he won't be attending for sure. Most citizens of China don't have problems getting Visas in Canada and the players who got Visa's for Season 2 in the US shouldn't have problems getting Visas in the US.
Talked to 3 people in Subway today when I overheard them talking about the wcs finals, (we're just an hour drive away from Toronto) we started talking about the finals in Toronto. The hype is buzzing irl woooo

cool stuff, but i'm kinda disappointed Season 3 finals are only like 2 weeks before Blizzcon. i would've thought/hoped they take some more time between to step up the hype and give the players some extended preparation time. but i guess this year has been pretty hectic for WCS, maybe it will be different in the future.

I really don't think any Chinese players will be top 16 for Blizzcon. Jim only has 650 points in 55th place right now for instance.
Didn't WCS just end? Or wait, that's right, it's ongoing. Makes the NHL seem like 82 games per year isn't enough. Kinda spammy imo...i'll watch grand finals, but sick of koreans winning every regionals and qualifiers going on 24/7/365.

FYI everyone saying visas here are a joke -- this has changed in recent years, I work with US contractors and getting them in here to do work in Canada can be a nightmare. I have no idea what rules are for competitors, but if anyone is perceived as taking work away from a Canadian... Well glhf is all I can say :-)
For general travel it's fine, for everything else you still have to do the paperwork ahead of time.
But seriously, wish it was on vancouver island, or quebec city/montreal, or Halifax NS. I want to show off Canadas goods, not just an American wanna be city ( Yah, i'm talking about you Toronto).

there is nothing NASL can do to re-create teh atmosphere at a GamesCom event. So it won't match what was put together this weekend. but, it'll be better than an MLG Arena in a NY high rise with 0 spectators.
On the contrary I think Canadians will surpass the gamescon atmosphere of Germans sitting on their hands quite easily.
i think its gamescom. i hope you are right. however, toronto events have a long history of crowds sitting on their hands.
Germany is a major "RTS country". Canada... not so much.

NASL's only season finals where they made serious money occurred in "Toronto". The owner of NASL explains in detail why "Toronto" worked so well for them.
Thus, I think putting it back in "Toronto" is a smart move although difficult to pull off logistically due to WCS's rushed and compressed schedule.
The Season 4 finals for NASL was a financial blood bath.

I'm pretty sure that I'll be able to make it up for this, and it should be really exciting! This will be the first offline event I've gone to so if anyone has any advice it would be appreciated.
I'm looking at attending this event. Something I can finally do comfortably financially. Moreso, there is a Harvey's, Swiss Chalet, Milestones, Kelseys, and Tim Hortons all right there within 2 minutes walking distance, so for lunch and dinner spectators, crew and players can get real food for not insane prices.
NOTE FOR PEOPLE FROM OUT OF TOWN, PLAYERS, CREW ETC Stay at the Radisson Suite Hotel Toronto at 640 Dixon Road Toronto, ON M9W 1J1 - you can literally throw a rock at the venue - its a 30 second walk. This will save you a rental car, taxi fees etc.

Agreed - but that stuff is so close you can run out, 30 second walk, get food, back before next match starts, and not pay $7 bucks for a salty mediocre poutine or $650 for a slice of pizza (like the NASL season 3 finals) where you had to drive to get anything other than the venue overpriced food.

Why would all of the top 16 in season 3 be in the top 16 for the whole year?
Although Montréal would be awesome, I think the idea is that you have a sizeable population (5 million in the GTA) along with a reasonable distance for east-coast USA?
Montréal should get the next Canadian major event though.
Montreal would probably do something silly like force the casting to be in French only though.

That never happened for MMA, Baseball, Hockey, Football, or any other sport for that matter. Your comment unwarranted and ignorant, unfortunately.

I don't think anyone knows for certain at this point but for what it's worth the Eventbrite page has the starting time on Friday for 12:00PM. That could certainly be the starting time for Saturday and Sunday but again I'm not 100%.
I'm staying at the Radisson! I've stayed there multiple times for Anime North and it's overall a much better hotel (in terms of price, proximity and rooms) than the Crowne Plaza. Anyone else staying there? Definitely should have Thursday night bar hangouts before the excitement begins!
Last week, batch 1 of tickets for the WCS Season 3 Finals at the Toronto Congress Centre went on sale. As many StarCraft II eSports fans may have noticed, the premium passes available in this batch sold out quickly. Nevertheless, there is still hope for those who would like to upgrade from their General Admission tickets to a Premium Pass.
When the second batch of tickets is released, the Premium Pass tickets will be released to people on the waitlist first. One day before this release happens, NASL will announce that the tickets are about to be released. Individuals on the waitlist will then receive an email notification via Eventbrite notifying them that they can now claim their ticket.
This email will contain a “Claim my spot” button that must be clicked on in order to claim the ticket and complete the purchase. This unique link will expire after 24 hours.
Fans who are on the waitlist and wishing to purchase multiple Premium Passes should note that each entry on the waitlist corresponds to one ticket. Thus, each person in a group looking to upgrade their tickets is encouraged to register for the waitlist separately.
Upgrading from General Admission to a Premium Pass
Fans who are able to secure an upgraded Premium Pass who have a general admission ticket they no longer need can then easily procure a refund for their General Admission ticket. To request a refund, simply log into Eventbrite, select “WCS Season 3 Finals” from current orders, and select “View Order.” Once on this page, there will be a “Request Refund” link near the name of the event. Clicking on this link will auto-populate a message with the order number, though additional information may still be added. Simply press “Send message,” and someone from NASL will process the refund! When this happens, another Eventbrite email will be sent confirming the refund.

I just entered 3 Waitlist entries (we are 3 people) but I am wondering what are the difference? To they get much better seats or what?
My understanding is if you get a Premium ticket you get guaranteed seating in the first couple rows. NASL has stated that they will make sure there is at least as many reserved premium seats at the front of the venue as there are people with premium tickets so you won't have to worry about losing your chair if you have to get up for food/etc.
I just bought my standard ticket for the Saturday and am pretty pumped about this. Last time they were in town the venue was insane!
There are 587 ppl as of this msg registered as going on facebook. I'm sure not everyone going went to facebook to add to that, so is this going to be huge or am I off? I missed the NASL event in Toronto last year because I was in the states. (I was so bummed btw that we had a tournament right when I leave.)

Hey guys! I can't believe how close is the event... This is my first eSport event and me and my GF are so excited!
We're getting there by car on Thursday afternoon and leaving on Monday, and I was wondering if you have any Restaurants/Bars suggestions in the area where we're likely to meet a ton of nerds and hopefully some progamers and personalities :D
How is it usually at those events ? Do you have a chance to meet some eSport personalities in the area around the event? Is there after-parties sometimes in the weekend ? Is it possible for fans to go there ?
I guess my main question is where should we go on Thursday night if we wanna meet up some fans and hopefully some personalities ? Is taking a look at flights landing from Korea and hanging out at the airport worth it ? Or are we better taking a tour in restaurants/bars around ?

I am most worried about down time between games since I will be bringing someone who has absolutely no knowledge about starcraft/gaming in general and that person might feel completely bored out of their minds.
