As most people in the Starcraft community are aware, Artosis has been making an unrealistic number of wrong predictions in the past several months. It has gotten to the point where people believe that the correlation between Artosis's predictions and losses has turned into causation.
I have created this thread to provide the community with a running archive of Artosis's predictions and their effect on the Starcraft II professional scene. Any assistance would be much appreciated. I'll try to update this list when possible.
UPDATE: Out of fairness to Artosis, I'll only update the prediction rate with results starting from WCS Season 2 Finals.

In total 1/10 that is really shitty predictions (if op are correct about artosis predictions). If he flipped a coin it would give him better result TT.
This has been happening since the early days of GSL. In open season 1 Artosis and Tasteless said that Clide was the best player in the world and would win a GSL and he ended up always being a middle tier Code S player. A few months later Artosis said he would swallow a sword if San made it out of a group with Nestea, Boxer and I think Ensnare, saying he had no chance. San ended up making it out of the group in first place. Alicia was another player who was supposed to win a title according to Artosis but it never happened.
There's probably a bunch more but I can't remember and I haven't been paying enough attention lately.
While entertaining, I feel you could do better, how about a examination of all his records from 2010, 2011 and 2012, that is if you want really in depth examination.

The conversation was in Ro8 where Artosis said the GSL would be won by MVP Puzzle or Oz. Tasteless suggested Leenock and Artosis said maybe and then joked Jjakji to win it then Artosis said "never gonna happen".
artosis is an anti-prophet. we should always bet against him;( he will probably make some friend win a ton on roulette if he plays black/red with a him.

Well, regarding the match of Taeja vs Polt that was just played at the WCS AM season 2, he did reply to Polt's worry about the Artosis curse that he does love Polt's terran play. Does that count against the curse?

He hyped up Clide and Bomber as the next best SC2 players ever and Major as the next great foreigner, but none of them have quite met expectations. He did put some hype on MVP before he went off, but IIRC, it was mostly Tasteless who was praising MVP to no end.

I'm pretty sure Artosis favored MMA over Polt in the Super Tournament as well.
Don't forget his hyping of Myungsik right before said player went 0-2 in his IEM group.

Some of them become fan-favorites thanks to Artosis continously talking about them!
well, while fun and interesting..... You would need to have every prediction he has made in the specific time frame, since its a 50/50 chance of being right.... you would assume that it would land somewhere in the 60/40 region one way or the other. If it turns out to be 70/30 (wrong/right) or worse..... then you have definite proof of the artosis curse or that artosis is some kind of freak that can't even break even in a game of chance.... in which case, i want to play Artosis heads up at poker lol. I could play any two cards and still come out a winner!!!!!
By the way, i think the example of Artosis prediction for Rain in OSL semis should be taken with grain of salt, because in the end of previous semifinal Artosis said that Bomber has a chance. And we all know, what happens when even glimpse of curse combines with Bomber's Law.

I remember that GSL. That was the one there were 3 Protoss and MVP left. He picked PartinG to win it all, then when he lost, he picked Squirtle to win the finals, who went on to also lose to MVP.

A great caster but his ability to predict anything is dismal. He only predicts the big names 90% of the time, things like map pools, form, meta game(except his show), etc. Its not really the artosis curse, its the curse of tunnel vision and bandwagoning.

The thing is you need to differentiate predictions from who he's cheering for. No one expected Jjakji to win a GSL. It was a sheer underdog moment.
How many of these are 'predictions' and how many of these are "I hope X wins" ?

To me it seems like most of the time he's predicting the better player to win, but because of the extreme volatility in SC2 and therefore it being incredibly hard to be a consistent winner, he's wrong often. In this game, we might as well flip a coin. Don't blame Artosis for it. He's one of the good guys!
You should include the case where Artosis's curse failed. So that it is a true examination. Only including the correct ones will be biased and flawed in methodology.
i am sure artosis alone made clide to never win anything and has to retire after they not stopped cheering for him just because he could not overcome the curse

I agree. Rooting for someone is completely different than predicting them to win. You can root for an underdog, but still predict them to lose.

So to fill out the WCS knockout predictions, he had Innovation over Soulkey (first he said, there's going to be 1 zerg in the top 4 after Symbol lost, then Khaldor asked him if that meant he was picking Soulkey and Artosis basically said, oh, nevermind that, Innovation wins - then he self-cursed himself saying, I guess that does mean we'll have 1 Zerg in the top 4 huh?).
Then he said Rian - Supernova was a hard call, but he was going with Rain (about 5 minutes in if you check the G1 vod).
Honestly, in the knockout stages for WCS2 the only iffy prediction he got wrong was First - Bomber, he basically went with the favorites (I don't even have to look at the LR threads to know that Maru was not favored against Symbol, Innovation or Rain by TL...) the rest of the time and we saw a bunch of upsets.
Artosis is definitely guilty of a hyping up players who show an awesome game (First) and assuming they'll always play like that though.
I suppose the flip side of that is he tends to waaaay underestimate players who haven't shown such good games (like Maru vs SoS).
But there's such a fine line between over hyping someone who's improving (did he turn the corner?) and discounting someone because he hasn't proven himself yet.

Artosis's predictions always come before the game; the actual casting is precise and excellent, especially when he can joke around with Tasteless.

It's the word "throw" itself. Throw designates, especially in the sc community, a conscious effort to lose the games. It brings up a lot of issues that have been faced in the past and is always very harshly looked upon. Especially the BW scandal, and the ESF weekly Coca-Byun thing.

So is there a Tasteless Blessing? He predicted Jjakji to win that GSL before ro8.
A prediction on who's gonna win Red Bull Training Grounds, but he was not passionate about his picks and seemed like he just glanced over the player list and picked some names out, nonetheless his three picks did not win it.

Yeah, you should only include the predictions from Artosis where he has a high level of conviction.
It probably wouldn't look as one-sided when you do that.
Hmm, I like the idea to keep track of it from this point forward, but adding this retroactively might be a bad idea because people mostly remember when he was completely wrong (jjakji) and not when he may have been right so it seems worse than it is. However, if someone feels like watching through old vods and tweets it could be valid.

This has already been discussed. Any coin he tries to flip he has already cursed.
Assuming that any prediction done without any kind of insight on the game has a 50% chance of becoming true, and given that Artosis has correctly predicted 6 out of the 33 outcomes listed in the OP, by the magic of the binomial distribution we can find that:
- The probability of getting such a result is p=0.0001 - The p-value associated with such a result is p-value=0.0004
The alternative hypothesis being that the Artosis curse is real is therefore confirmed, even under the most stringent p-value threshold of 0.001.

I find he often predicts protoss players to win, particularly against terran opponents, hes a protoss player himself and yeh is a big time fanboy and it influences his predictions. Terran has long been his least favourite race, and he often picks against Terrans apart from one or two exceptions. IMO. That being said, he seems to like Polt now, which he never did in the past. Poor Polt He overcame it today, but I dunno whether Artosis officially predicted he would win though.
I think Artosis hit Myungsik harder than just cheering. He spent 10-15 minutes talking about how awesome and cool Myungsik and his game against Hyun was in the IEM KR qualifier. Although he did not make any predictions, this kind of behaviour is one of original tenents in his curse.

Yeah but the thing was it didn't end until the day after. Unless someone states otherwise, he was still translating among other things until the end of the event, all of which he was presumably barred from after being pulled. Fired probably isn't the right word, but they definitely gave him early leave from his internship.
Fall semester generally starts in the beginning of september.

I believe he then swapped back to Squirtle after it reached game 7 as well which just made it to perfect.
You should throw out all picking so and so player to win the entire tournament. Trying to pick a top16 or lower is extremely hard. This should just be a compilation of player vs player picks to see if it actually is a CURSE.

There should be an Artosis reward for Liquibet for the person with the worst voting record. To prevent people from just betting on one match and sitting on 0%, require that they're voting on at least the same number of games the average liquibet user does, rounded down.
Not sure how to classify this since he was wrong about Jaedong winning, but he still predicted the finalists at DreamHack Valencia. His #1 pick was Jaedong and his #2 pick was HyuN, HyuN beat Jaedong in the finals.

It is true. When we're talking Artosis picking a winner out of two players to advance to the next round, he's right well over 50% of the time.
It's not nearly as funny when you limit it to reasonable restrictions like that though. Most of the Artosis curse incidents are him picking a player to win the entire tournament, or Ro4 or Ro8 or Ro16, whatever.
If you need proof, rewatch any season of GSL. He gives a prediction before every match. The majority of people he picks wins, but human beings have selective memory.
I think most intelligent people don't legitimately believe Artosis is "stupid" or "clueless" or anything like that - they just stick with this because it is funny, not because they think badly of Artosis.

I think most people find his extreme hype of players stands in contrast to his reputation as the analytically/big picture guy (no one gives crap to Tasteless for his picks because he is a color commentary/play by play guy)

I think part of the problem Artosis has with making proper calls is that he becomes invested in certain types of players. He doesn't often pick the cheesier, micro-centric players but leans more toward those who are innovative or play a safe-macro mechanical style. Artosis really liked Myungsik's new PvZ build (hes been testing out on ladder while streaming) but Myungsik himself isn't as good as Artosis hyped him up to be.
I'm loving all these theories. If anyone is familiar with how Artosis used to play Terran back in BW BP then I'd say your safe-macro mechanical style is spot on lmao.

No, the Jjakji example shows that even when the odds are stacked in his favor (predicting a single player to not win out of 8) he still gets it wrong. The Artosis Curse exists because Artosis curses SC2 players. That simple.
I agree that if he picks a single player to win at the start of a tournament and that player doesn't win, it is not a significant statistic, but the other way around is pretty important evidence!

Also. I do not agree with the mentioning of the bomber curse.. I believe the bomber curse means that bomber will lose at the moment he gets topfavorite after having really good earlyer rounds.. But if rain was predicted to win, bomber was not top favorite, so his loss was not due to the bomber curse.. I mean, if losing in general means there is a curse, I think everyone has a curse.

Artosis's grilled interview provides pretty good insight into why the curse seems to exist. Cheering is probably the best explanation when most of his predictions, at least in the past, were somewhat biased towards players whose styles Artosis liked and thought constituted a superior player.

I agree lol. I don't expect that we'll ever get a large enough sample of Artosis's predictions from the past 3 years unless a lot of people spend a lot of time on it (which will never happen lol). However now that the thread has been started, we should be able to collect all of Artosis's predictions which means we can see how Artosis's predictions pan out over time (starting fairly recently of course).

What about the Innovation vs MVP in the last WCS Finals. He said innovation should win, but as MVP was beating him, he started saying MVP got this.... He said it 3 times. He predicted MVP to win it 3 times. And eventually his curse overpowered MVP.

I have a hard time believing a lot of this isn't just down to confirmation bias, especially in the older results. Now that the Artosis Curse is a thing nobody even remembers whenever Artosis was right, but everybody jumps at the chance to dig up right predictions.
I applaud the effort people are putting into this, but I think this way of collecting data is bound to get skewed results.

Totally reasonable, my main point was only that it could in no way be considered a prediction in favor of scarlet.
Does Clide not count? What about the entire zerg race early wol? Perhaps Yonghwa during his trials and tribulations in code B despite being artosis's favorite protoss forever?
Also, in WCS season 1 finals in ro4 between Innovation and mvp, when the game was 2-2 he said mvp looks like he's going to take it, before the 5th game was under way. I can't find the vods anywhere since it was the GSL cast.

Yah. I just updated the thread so its more fair for Artosis. Basically I'll only track recent results where it'll be easier to get his predictions. I'll still add old predictions but I won't track them in the prediction rate.
Artosis is a competitive guy, so it sucks for him to have his name associated with failure (Artosis Pylon, Artosis Curse), but he needs to understand that the memes only exist because of his success.
I mean, think about it. Nobody would give two fucks if Kelly Milkies got a bunch of predictions wrong. Nobody would care if Orb lost a game because of a single pylon. No offense to either, I'm sure they're great people and work(ed?) really hard, but they obviously didn't have nearly the impact as Artosis has had on the scene. He is StarCraft.
It sucks to see what probably seems like the entire community poking fun at you, but it could be so much worse. At least people aren't questioning his passion and dedication like people do with Day[9] and Tasteless (must run in the family). There's no pitchfork mob trying to drive him out of casting like Moletrap and SNM. I could go on but you get the point. Yeah, it's like Goody's macro. It's funny and awesome because the guy is so amazing. Any bronze can make amusingly bad predictions or queue up 5 SCVs, but it isn't really special. What makes things like this legendary is the fact that, aside from that one glaringly obvious flaw, the person in question wields stupendous talent and skill. It's more of a defining trait, something that makes him unique and interesting, than it is an annoying problem that needs to be fixed. I guess you could say it's become part of the legend. Artosis's sick hype probably doesn't hurt this meme, either. He's made more than a few tournaments some of the most memorable of my life.

I disagree. Artosis makes his money by being a figurehead. "All Publicity is Good Publicity" they say. No one insinuates that Artosis doesn't know what he is talking about... merely that he is cursed when predicting winners.
I really understand Artosis. Making fun of a failed prediction is ok. But when you see 20 posts on reddit about it with titles like 'F*uck you Artosis ffs' it's really stupid.
Well the whole curse thing wouldn't be so bad if it was used to casually tease him and only ever so often. But now its gotten to the point where, every time a fan favorite that Artosis was just rooting for loses, he gets a lot of unnecessary hate, and the joke is now way, way too overused.

I see what you're saying but I hope Artosis take this in stride and continues to predict or cheer for whoever he likes. Will people continue to wait for his predictions? Yup, just like how people look for the Artosis iNcontroL pylon. It is not the most positive image but for the most part everyone knows it is all just for fun. Also, I don't think there's any other SC2 figure apart from Artosis who is constantly mentioned in almost any game.

Meh, there's quite a few people in this community that take some things way too seriously, from EG curse and EG's "dirty money", to in-game "bm", to obvious trolling (see: many of TT1's posts) etc.

So all of GSL open season 2 as he bet on Nestea the entire way. All of NASL as he bet on Puma the entire way. Last night he bet on Soulkey and Parting over Pigbaby and Swagger.

This is correct. I added the PigBaby vs Soulkey one because Artosis specifically stated that Pigbaby didn't have a chance. While artosis probably thought that Parting was going to win, he never specifically stated it. Does anyone else know if he predicted the other three matches? I wasn't up when they happened.

Pigbaby got pretty close. Anyway, I think he has solidified his reputation for the next PL. He will have big games for Jin Air as they move forward. Not like Kim Carrier didn't make a few right predictions either but hell is ratio was ridiculously bad.

it happened again during the Keen-Symbol series in GSL. Symbol went up 1-0 and Tasteless asked Artosis if Keen could come back and he says no i don't think Keen can win this.

Someone should go through some old sotg watch where they predicted mlgs and stuff. Also I'd assume that the 3 seasons Nestea won he probably got a lot right. I don't really think he's whining about the TL thread, where all we do is keep stats and laugh a bit about the whole thing. I think it's more of the assholes on reddit and/or Twitter who openly flame Artosis for making predictions. Also, it's his right to be happy or unhappy about something that is directly linked to him.

Some people on twitter are fucking vile and venomous whenever he makes a prediction.
People people. The Artosis curse isn't ACTUALLY in effect unless Artosis predicts the player to win the tournament. It's not like whoever he's for or against is suddenly awful (although we question this for MMA).

If you look at the opponents (Innovation, Soulkey, Parting, and Bomber), soO definitely had a much more difficult road towards the championship. actually Artosis said his predictions for the semifinals on Meta #20 and he was flat out WRONG. He said Soulkey vs Polt/ Dear or Taeja vs Innovation in the semis.
