Your first time advancing to a finals stage. How do you feel?
I was anticipating a difficult match. I feel so good that my prepared strategies got executed well. I would never have expected to have defeated INnoVation by a score of 4-0 since he's such a phenomenal player. Even if I did somehow win, I was expecting at least a score of 4-3.
You grabbed both a first time finals chance and the youngest royal roader opportunity.
This will be my first time experiencing a finals stage ever since I became a pro gamer. I am so glad. I am even more glad that I get a chance to grab the youngest royal roader achievement. I will prepare extensively and win that title.
You chose to play on maps that you had never used before through this tournament.
I got to decide what maps to use at the scene so I was planning on going for all-in strategies if I won the first game. My plans ended up working out well. I didn't really have a specific set of strategies for each map but I decided to choose maps that were comfortable to play on.
When did you know that you had secured your victory?
I had a feeling that I was going to win the minute the score became 3-0.
It seems like INnoVation's momentum has diminished since the hellbat nerf.
I think he's been on a decline ever since the hellbat nerf took place.
Who would you like to face in the finals?
I hope Rain makes it through. TvP is just a little more comfortable. I can't help but feel that my chances of winning the championship will get higher if Rain advances (laughs).
Supervisor Gerrard kept coming up to you after every single game.
He advised me not to let my guard down even if I won.
The last time Prime had someone in a championship finals was three years ago when Polt was still on the team.
I will do my absolute best and try to do what I can do.
Why do you think your momentum is so good right now?
I have been able to practice in a better environment ever since the move to the new team house. My practices are now more systematic than before.
Anything else you would like to say?
I want to thank my parents for cheering me on until the end, and thank FXOsC hyung and my teammates for helping me with practice.

You've advanced to the OSL finals for a second time in a row.
I was expecting a difficult match to ensue because I got really nervous and my momentum was not as good as last year's. In my opinion, I think I was able to win because I was able to re-gain my composure after the re-game occurred.
A lot of people said that Bomber was going to win because his momentum was just so good.
The maps were just not good. I even thought that I probably wouldn't be able to make it through. But oddly for some reason, even though all my games today were improvised, I somehow established even better results than usual.
Around when did you feel like you had brought the atmosphere of the match into your favor?
After I won game two. I was able to win this game even though I took a pretty big hit from his early game strategy. I figured that I had brought the pace of the match into my favor with my game two victory.
You won WCS Asia last year and grabbed 3rd place in the World Championship, but you've been very stale since then.
I think I just didn't have any fear during then because I was a rookie. I was feeling down because of the Proleague experience a little while ago, but I think my match went well because I realized that I had nothing to lose because the Proleague playoffs was over.
You started off the series with a loss in game one.
Usually, if I take a complete loss, it affects me pretty greatly. But this time the loss was just so pathetic that I just told myself that I just didn't get lucky.
You won game four because you found out about his secret expansion on Star Station.
That was an expected result. I knew it was a little meaningless since I found his expansion a little too late, but I had a feeling that he was going to go for a secret expansion.
You will be facing Maru in the finals.
It's not like I'm good friends with him or anything but he is a young player and it felt like he was going to achieve some great stuff. I have a feeling it's not going to be an easy fight. I think every situation is just not in my favor. I'm going to see this as a kind of homework that I have to overcome. How do you think the finals will go?
I am going to have to prepare extensively because the maps are just so disadvantageous. I was able to win all this time by playing the way that I wanted to play but I am going to have to make complete and thorough preparations for the finals. I am going to have to choose carefully about what I want to do.
Anything else you would like to say?
I want to sincerely thank FanTaSy hyung, hudadak hyung, Mercury hyung, and KT Flash for helping me with practice. I want to thank my fans in the online community, and the fans who come to the actual scene to see my matches for cheering me on. Our team's atmosphere has not been so great lately so I hope that my teammates, the supervisor, and the coach will all remain strong now that I've made it to the finals. We have a 2 week break coming up but it looks like my Terran teammates will have to continue to keep helping me with practice now that I've made it to the finals (laughs). I want to apologize to them in advance as well as thank them in advance. I will treat them to a delicious meal regardless of whether I win or not (laughs).

Royal roader... Just because this is only the second sc2 OSL, basically maru is as far away as a royal roader as possible in sc2 having played in the first GSL..
Also wasn't polt winning just 2 years ago?

Royal road is for OSL. Even in BW, players can play in PL/MSL for years and then qualifier their for OSL for the first time, and they are considered royal roaders.

It seems like INnoVation's momentum has diminished since the hellbat nerf. I actually think he was on a decline even before the hellbat nerf took place.
Shots fired.
About the Bomber or Rain. Rain is a more stylistic player, easier to prepare for, specially since it is TvP.

lol ? how is easy to prepare for a player that makes almost no mistakes and is the most solid MACRO protoss in the world ? like you have no ideea how good rain is . he is THE protoss . no allins no cheese
|
really he wants to play rain?!
hmmm perhaps he thinks all-ins work better vs rain..?
|
Rain is really great at defending aggression and surviving into the late game where he has superior macro and control. I don't think Maru will be able to all-in him successfully especially now that Rain knows what to expect.
|
Maru (and all Prime Terran) actually doesn't cheese TvP that much.

Maru is probably most likely of the 3 to 11-11 in TvP though. ByuN most likely to scv pull of course

It'd be funny if Bomber gets through,
then you'd have either the youngest royal roader, or the oldest royal roader...
although it'd be hard to work out who the underdog is then - the sage old player giving it another hurrah, or the vulnerable youth giving it his all against the world of gods and robots.

how does "그 이전보다는 약해지신 것 같다" translate to " I actually think he was on a decline even before the hellbat nerf took
place." ???? what Maru was saying was that innovation got weaker after the hellbat nerf, and you translated it as "he was
on decline EVEN before the hellbat nerf took place" which is very different 0_0

It'll be fun to see maru goes up against rain. Rain is a super defensive player that can hold cheese very well, and he also macros like a beast. The 2004 Gillette OSL ended on July 31, 2004. A difference of 17 years 7 months and 13 days Jaedong was born on January 9, 1990. The EVER 2007 OSL ended on December 22, 2007. A difference of 17 years 11 months and 13 days. So Jaedong was slightly older

All these impressive names as Rain's practice partners against Bomber...makes me wonder who Maru can use to practice against Rain...

Tell that to the rest of the KT squad in individual leagues. :-P
Everybody who practices with Flash FROM TIME TO TIME wins. Otherwise, they forget how to win.

Outside of Parting (who won't help I'm sure), he can maybe get help from Squirtle? Or even Creator, although at this point Rain's style is becoming more diverse, possibly too diverse for Creator to imitate. He can be a good macro game practice partner though.

Don't forget that Rain also practiced with Mercury. Sometimes players who haven't shown their skills live are still good, or at least able to come up with good strategies. There might be some practice bonjwas helping Maru out.

I wouldn't say Rain copied Creator's style. They both play "standard" and safe but they're different brands of standard if that makes sense.

To me Creator has always been about being as greedy as possible while Rain is about staying as safe as possible. Rain doesn't often cut corners to get an advantage because he is confident he's going to win if they are even. Creator sometimes cuts corners to take that advantage. Sometimes he pays for it.

And he's obviously right. There are very few Terrans in the world right now that can touch Soulkey's ZvT. Check what he did to Alive at the last season finals. That's what he does any non-elite TvZer. Soulkey got a super rough deal this OSL, he would've been a heavy favourite over any Ro16 player not named Bogus.
I don't want to start a 'who would have beaten who' discussion. I personally think Maru would've gotten smashed vs Soulkey, but this sort of tournament theorycrafting never leads to anything good. I think it's beyond a doubt though that Maru got the better semis pairing for him. His branch of T relies heavily on coming up with builds that can hit aggressive timings. That sort of thing works much better against a player like Bogus than in a TvZ against the best defensive Zerg on the planet.

Flash as a practice partner? Rain is gonna win EZPZ

I'm not so sure how Soulkey would fare against Rain, would have been a potentially interesting match for sure

The maps were just not good. I even thought that I probably wouldn't be able to make it through. But oddly for some reason, even though all my games today were improvised, I somehow established even better results than usual.
Bomber's law at work. Haha.

Wonder if Maru will switch his name to OptimusPrime if he wins :D
Either way, hoping for an epic finals, both players have good storyline going!

Who would you like to face in the finals?
I hope Rain makes it through. TvP is just a little more comfortable. I can't help but feel that my chances of winning the championship will get higher if Rain advances (laughs). I think he's in for a rude awakening. I certainly hope he get rids of this smug attitude XD
