im sad to see this happen to idra. hopefully this is one of those growing situations for him and the community. and weather you like him or not there is no point to kick him while he's down. saying you're happy about him getting kicked and he deserves it doesn't accomplish anything except making yourself look like a dick at someone misfortune.

I can kind of understand EG making this decision. It's a business, and they considered him too much of a liability. It sucks. It really fucking sucks it had to end this way.

What is really getting at me is the timing of releasing this statement. You got Incontrol tearing up live on SOTG, Demuslim happily streaming (he had to go offline), and HuK has his WCS matches. Why the hell would Alex make the announcement right now? Stirring up the teams emotions during an important time. It wouldn't surprise me if Chris is flustered, it w/out a doubt would impact his play. IMO, they should've waited until later tonight to break the news.
That's what she said.

And remember this, Idra was living the good life. An EG salary is quite generous and it was probably especially generous in 2011 when Idra was getting some results. This compared to the vast majority of players including Koreans (basically every single ESF player) that do not get a paycheck, grind on a strict schedule every day, and live or die based on tournament winnings. Idra had every opportunity afforded to him and blew every single one.

In the end, even EG had to let him go, not because of any moral compunction (or they would've fired him over a year ago) but more likely than not, a bunch of sponsors threatened to leave. Nothing else could explain the sudden rush to get rid of Idra. His career is dead except for the pittance he will get from streaming to 3000 malcontents on twitch because that's basically his only option now (give it some time).

He'll still be living the good life if he chooses to continue streaming. There are enough people who can't get enough of Idra acting like an asshole to keep him rolling in ad money i'm sure.

You're not rolling in it at 3000-5000 viewers. Also while this may boost his viewers for the next week, his viewer numbers are only going down from this point, and if he over-expose himself by doing full-time stream they are just going to drop faster. When idra gets knocked out of wcs soon he will lose any relevance in the professional scene, and without more invites he will get little attention (and certainly won't qualify for anything). He may be able to become the new combatex, but that is not really what I would call a comfortable living. I would be surprised if he can sustain 2500 viewers 2 months from now.

A fine example of why he doesn't respect the community.

I enjoyed him on GSL 3 years ago, when hwe was good, not egotistical and cared about the game. Now i dont, and good riddance.

Dude you're nearly an hour late on that joke.

Ah but I hadn't read it here yet! It made me chuckle on Reddit, it makes me chuckle now.

I've never been a fan of IdrA but this feels just wrong. Yes, he has failed miserably lately, and yes, he has taken it out on his opponents in a ugly way (I've seen it on stream).

But ... burning a person publicly in this way is not just as ugly, it is in fact evil.

Perhaps there is a malicious streak to the entire EG franchise?

Wow, didn't expect that. Idra is well connected and well established. He will do well in whatever he chooses to do next. Hopefully he takes some time to consider what his next move should be.

Well.. living with so many people in the house and not getting hints on how to change his attitude.. or maybe just he is so stubborn.. pretty depressing... well, best of luck to him.

Mad props to EG for this decision. I never dreamed in a million years they would have the balls to release the gracken. Glad to see I was wrong. Idra made his own bed through his actions and now he has to lie in it. My sympathy for Idra is at the same level as respect he had for people, which is to say, none.

I haven't always agreed with a lot of things alex garfield has said or done, such as the milkis thing and going after slasher. However, when it comes to tough decisions, he continues to impress me by not just defaulting to the popular choice, such as with orb's release, stephano's suspension and now idra's release. He may come off as a hot head at times, but I applaud him for sticking to his moral standards in his decision making. Well done to EG and Alex, as I've gained a ton of respect for them today because of this decision. It's the most gutsy decision EG has made in history and they should be commended for it.

I can't help but laugh now thinking about waxangel's comment about getting mad at people for not posting that idra comment on reddit fast enough.

As most of you are already aware, we let our players be themselves. We believe that our industry's diverse assortment of vibrant personalities plays a huge part in helping make eSports so much fun - for ourselves, and for the viewers. No great novel is without great characters, and we like to let our players find their own roles within the eSports storyline by showcasing the personalities they were born with. We have strict guidelines that regulate certain kinds of more extreme speech, and we take disciplinary action when those guidelines are violated, but for the most part, we stay out of the way.

This is why it was never really an issue for us that Greg can be rude to his opponents in games, or that he usually speaks his mind very bluntly and directly.

So calling people faggots on multiple occasions while officially being a member of your team (idra) is perfectly fine because of the "vibrant" personality of idra. Orb calling someone a nigger a year prior to being a member of your team is not fine because he didn't have a vibrant personality. Or is hate speech okay when it's against homosexuals but over the line against black people?

I just want some clarification here.

I see this topic brings out the best in people. Although the last time I really enjoyed watching him was GSL 3. Him and Jinro were so awesome!

That really makes we wonder, since I guess you know the scene 1000 times better than me and I can not imagine the slightest that he will get any reasonable contract and will more or less vanish from the scene.

I think most people would agree with you about kicking someone when they're down, but we're talking about Idra, someone who has benefited at the expense of other people's feelings whenever possible - he's made a very wealthy living doing so. Greg doesn't need sympathy or pity, he's made a lot of money, he'll continue to make a lot of money, and I doubt he cares about anyone's feelings about this because he seemingly lacks basic empathy.
