From all reports it will not be a region lock, but a system that rewards players for staying in a specific region for a set period of time, likely a "season".

Maybe a good move to for blizarrd in korea is to put a free hots multiplayer version at pc bang or at least one a lot cheaper. f2p @ pc bang only would be quiet amazing (though not sure how this feature can be regulated)

Looks like Blizzard is focusing more on WCS Korea (it was not that good last year even though Korea has the most talent) and strengthening/expanding their partnership with GOMTV/GSL for the WCS. Then, they sponsored/paid OGN to air it on Thursday.

Anyways, one thing I am eager to hear will be how much money blizzard is thinking of dumping into the Korean scene. ^.^" edit: I hope the news will be up by the time I wake up tomorrow.

WCS Korea is Korea-related. They could also announce that the world championship would be held in Korea this year.

However I really want foreigners to do better in SC2. Not because I want to watch them (except Huk, whom my daughter and I are big fans of), but because it means there will be a way for new players to enter the scene, which means the foreign scene will be healthier. This is obviously good for esports. That said, if there's no Koreans at MLG or Dreamhack or whatever, I'm not going to watch them (ok, I'll turn on the final if Huk is in it). I want to watch the highest quality of game possible and that means Koreans, as long as whatever is going to happen doesn't make the games worse, I support it.

* If blizzard does it at all, I wouldn't be surprised if it was only for WCS based tournaments. Like WCS NA would be only NA players at an MLG event or something of that nature. * Even if blizzard did enact tournament region locking, or setup a carrot good enough to keep people in their region. For the long term success of esports globally I don't think region locking would be a bad thing. Having locked regions except for maybe a few or less global events would allow each region to build a stronger foundation. Where as without region locking one region can potential dominate every tournament globally. Short term this obviously isn't as appealing, as people will feel like they will see less quality competition, which may be true. Long term I think it would be a step that would help to foster better competitors in every region. To take a step back, I really didn't see many people complaining about the quality of games back when EU/NA tournaments had very little cross over among them and Koreans were staying exclusively in Korea.
