How do you feel about being the first foreigner to grab a victory in 2748 days?

Personally speaking, I want to give myself the credit for taking this victory for my team since this win had more meaning to me than the hundreds or thousands of days that passed since the last time a foreigner won.

Before the match began, you stated that you had confidence.

I wasn't obsessed over winning. I figured I had to have that kind of mentality in order to play with a peaceful mindset.

Did you practice a lot with Classic's style in mind?

No at all. I spent a lot of time figuring out how to play on the map and on how to best utilize my plays. The map itself was a concept map.

It is difficult for the foreign players to grab victories for Proleague.

When it came to SC1, Korea had a huge advantage over anyone else. There was a skill level gap between Korean players and foreigners. Even for SC2, Korea is dominant. But I don't think that it's impossible to win against them. I was really nervous for my proleague game today but never the less, it went well.

You said that the map was a concept map. How did you prepare for it?

I pondered a lot as to which strategy would be the best. I used my practice time with my teammates to come up with a good strategy, decrease the amount of mistakes I could make, and worked on preparing for a long macro game. I was satisfied with my performance.

It looks like you'll be sent out a lot for Proleague. Was today's victory indicative of what's to come in the future?

Proleague is all about the mind games. I think I was able to overcome any mental blocks with today's game. As long as I can focus on utilizing my strategies to their fullest and work hard so that I can win, I should be able to make good results.

How many victories are you expecting?

I want to have a 50% win ratio.

Foreign tournaments will resume soon. How do you plan on managing those with Proleague?

There's going to be a lot of tournaments opening up in America and Europe. I don't really have plans to attend that many tournaments. I don't really like traveling on an airplane. I just want to make the best results I possibly can for each tournament I attend.

How is Korean food?

I love bulgogi and kimchi. I also can handle spicy foods really well.

How is the EG team house life?

A big key factor is that I can't sleep all that much. But I've had past experiences with team houses when I was at the WeMade team house so I understand that the team house needs me to be active and that I need to learn to adapt to my living conditions.

Anything else you would like to say?

I want to thank the fans for cheering me on even though I was at three straight losses. I don't really want my fans to send me messages over the EG home page or the TeamLiquid website. Honestly, I don't really post on community sites. I plan on using twitter to update my statuses.

What a mature and comprehensive player. He is right in saying that a team house setting is important for the well-being of the team. I hope he focuses on Proleague and his home tournaments because he has a tremendous potential!

Sick performance from Thorzain, he played very well and proved that his previous losses were simply a result of him not playing to his potential.

Way to have practice results shine through Thorzain!

I can't help but be curious as to how much sleep he normally gets and "how little" sleep he's getting now.

There was A LOT of mistranslation in this interview. Almost every answer was a bit wrong from what I originally meant. For example I didn't say that I take full credit for the win today, rather the opposite that I'm proud of our team, etc.

So take this interview with a grain of salt.
Thanks to Roberi for taking care of my TL fanclub! Also a thanks to all my fans in and outside my TL fanclub :). Fighting~~!

I've been going to bed at around 2 AM and waking up at around 2 PM. It takes a ton of sleep for me to feel awake in Korea, for some reason. This limits the time to actually do stuff ^^.

Hm that clears up a lot. I was quite confused on the first answer for the first question.

Good job, amazingly impressed with your ability to speak Korean even if it's at the very basic stage. Keep up the good work
Happy New Years, sad to see that thorzain wont be playing in the match against SKT1 but hopefully it will all work in the end with EG-TL taking top 4 at the end of round 1

Great well earned win T-zain! Shame to see the interview was misinterpreted/mistranslated though. Hope to see you get many more wins in proleague.

Haha glad Thorzain corrected the mistranslations. I noticed them as well. And Naniwa has commented on them in the past too. I have a feeling the Korean staff has a tendency to "clean up" and cater the answers to the Korean audience. Like, for instance, saying he took credit for the win and that it was more important than his thousands of other wins... That couldn't be farther from what he said. He said that the team did great, and that while hes honored to be in proleague it doesn't hold the same honor for him as it does for bw players...

That's kinda what happens when you go English -> Korean -> English, or any language translations, unfortunately. It's most definitely not Seeker's fault. DES should have put up the original English interview as well, since a lot of foreigners are obviously going to want to read your interview.

Good job by the way

Congratz on the awesome win, Marcus! Super gespielt! Du hast Geschichte geschrieben!

I hope you will find your proper sleeping pattern soon. When I was in Seoul, staying up as long as possible without sleep helped me. Well, and Soju I guess.

Tell all the others on the team to keep practicing hard! SKT needs to go down after tomorrow! xD

When did ThorZain start to look like a hipster?

EDIT: I'm really happy that he won though, after a somewhat rough start.

Awesome interview, not so awesome yellow scarf. Thorzain was known for his preparation before matches so he should thrive in the proleague environment once he gets comfortable with the team house.

I opened up this page and saw a white guy, and was like, oh, guess they screwed up the Proleague interviews.

>_>

Then I felt silly haha.

Correction:

How do you feel about being the first foreigner to grab a victory in SC2 PL?

Personally speaking, I want to give myself the credit for taking this victory for my team since this win had more meaning to me than the hundreds or thousands of individual wins I achieved.

It's very annoying when they combine the two when they're nothing alike and you no longer need to follow the old protocol in BW to become a Pro Gamer. Times have changed and it's a brand new game. Stop tying all the results together KeSPA. You gave all the BW players practically the right to play in PL just because they had their BW Pro Gamer Licenses and were members of the teams. Nothing wrong with that, but you somehow seem to acknowledge that the stats they had in BW should be combined with that of their SC2 stats. Case in point, Bisu. You shouldn't mix is BW prowess with his abysmal SC2 results.

With that said, congrats Thorzain and welcome to the first foreigner club to get a SC2 PL win! Yesterday was a pretty funky day for results. All the EG players I picked got wins and spoiler with regards to KT and SK + Show Spoiler +

2478 days is 6.78 years ago or ~2005 meaning that it's referring to the last foreigner victory in Proleague (Legionnaire 2005). They don't say that explicitly but what else could they be talking about?

The number of days originally stated (2748) fits exactly with this previous last foreigner win in Proleague on June 22, 2005:
http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/korean/games/6610_[Oops]ClouD_vs_Legionnaire

If you punch in the dates at http://www.timeanddate.com/date/duration.html you get the following:
Duration calculation results

From and including: Wednesday, 22 June 2005
To and including: Saturday, 29 December 2012

It is 2748 days from the start date to the end date, end date included

Or 7 years, 6 months, 8 days including the end date

Alternative time units

2748 days can be converted to one of these units:
  • 237,427,200 seconds
  • 3,957,120 minutes
  • 65,952 hours
  • 392 weeks (rounded down)

I find it hard to believe a harmless fact about the absence of foreigners in Proleague annoys you. It's just a cool fact. The fact that Thorzain was the first foreigner to win in the SC2 PL doesn't mean he wasn't also the first foreigner to win since Legionnaire - is he not a foreigner? did Draco secretly get a game while on Sparkyz that nobody remembers? - it just means we have two cool facts instead of one.

And it's not realistic to say that the "new PL" is somehow nothing like the "old PL." The format is the same. The teams are 87.5% the same. OGN's production is the same. KeSPA is the same.

You are correct that the issue of progamer licenses has been swept under the rug, as nobody on EGTL besides IdrA, Jaedong, and PuMa has ever held a KeSPA license. But those licenses haven't always worked the same way to begin with. Legionnaire never won a Courage match, nor did Elky, Giyom... for that matter, boxer, yellow, does that mean when the Courage match was introduced, people like you jumped up and said "Well, there's nothing wrong with letting Yellow play in the OSL, but for some reason you don't want to forget all his old wins? What kind of sense does that make?"

Neither is SC2 a brand new game. It is some 2.5 years old. And this isn't the first Proleague to use it. You may remember the 2011-2012 Proleague Season 2 included both Brood War and Starcraft 2. So now what are we to believe, that 11-12 Season 2 was nothing like the "old" Proleague and now that 12-13 is nothing like the "old" Proleague and nothing like 11-12 Season 2, or the much simpler explanation that you're trying to make a fuss about nothing?

Case in point, Bisu. You shouldn't mix is BW prowess with his abysmal SC2 results.

I don't think people actually do this. Bisu has won a lot of games for his teams in the Starcraft Proleague. That's just a statistic. The fact that he can now add to that statistic (by winning games for his team in the Starcraft Proleague despite that the game has been replaced because it's a continuation of the same league) doesn't mean people are pretending he's one of the top 3 protosses.

I agree with you on your main point, but I don't see how that's wrong. Proleague is significantly changed with SC2, and the 11-12 s2 proleague was an unholy abomination that is best forgotten - even if you don't agree with that, it was significantly different in many ways compared to both previous proleagues and the current one in things like player preparation, general level of gameplay, etc.

The first answer in the original Korean wasn't talking about the hundreds or thousands of individual wins that he achieved but was referring to the hundreds and thousands of days since the last foreigner win. In other words it was more important to him that he contributed a win for his team than that hes the first foreigner in hundreds and thousands of days to get a win.

Who's this guy and what did he done to ThorZaIN ? I refuse to believe that's the Spoon Terran on this photo. Actually, these new glasses and haircut change EVERYTHING, I thought he went full SuperNoVa.

More seriously, congrats for your victory ThorZaIN, you deserves to not stay at 0-X.

There was A LOT of mistranslation in this interview. Almost every answer was a bit wrong from what I originally meant. For example I didn't say that I take full credit for the win today, rather the opposite that I'm proud of our team, etc.

So take this interview with a grain of salt.

Yeah I was curious about that haha.
