News Corp purchased IGN in 2005 for $650 million. Last year, the company also acquired online gaming network UGO and folded its properties (including 1Up.com) into its one-time rival. IGN has also sold a handful of businesses in recent years, including Rotten Tomatoes, Direct2Drive, and GameSpy Technologies. The Wall Street Journal (another News Corp. publication) reports that IGN is expected to sell for about $100 million now. Can somebody explain this to me? Is IGN a whole thing included RT, D2D, gamespy,.... and it was sold off bit by bit over the year, now they only have $100 million piece of business left?

That doesn't mean the bits they sold off were worth $550mil, just that the bits left are now considered to be worth $100m. It wouldn't surprise me if News Corp make a big loss overall. Apparently they own Askmen, Gamespy (website), IGN and some other sites.

Its a desperation sell and it will get chomped up by some shark who will then drive it further into the ground. they bought it for 600 million when 3-4 other subs were with it, they sold those other comppanies since thus why ign is only oging for 100 mil

IGN is one of many "we don't make money" internet websites out there that somehow want to value them high because, oddly enough, someone is dumb enough to think they might be worth $100 million if that's what they announce. It's a hysteria that will die in the next stock crash when people stop believing the hype and start asking "where's the profit?"

Its flagship gaming site IGN.com (along with GameSpy, FilePlanet, and TeamXbox) is the US's leading gaming network; IGN also operates lifestyle site AskMen.com. Together, its IGN sites attract more than 40 million unique monthly visitors globally (in the US, Australia, and Germany). I'm sure what you meant to say was something like, "I don't know much about IGN but I don't like the website. Easily attainable financial information on IGN that shows over 200 employees, some paid six figure salaries or higher. IGN offers an extensive selection of products over a dozen websites. I'm sure the 16 year old company has some means of income even though I'm just too lazy to look or think about it before i post"

They operated one of the busiest message boards on the internet and actually made rather large dollars in ad revenue.$100 mil? Worth $2 million tops. Where is their revenue coming from exactly? Tiny dollars from ads? It kinda died a while back from what I remember. Or at least it isn't nearly as big as it was when I used it. MoH and Battlefield 1942 were huge on it. Gamespy was ass, I remember giving up on warcraft 2 multiplayer because it was so crap. Thank god for bnet 1.0, HUGE improvement. Oddly enough, bnet 2.0 proved to be worse then gamespy, at least gamespy had chat.
