Yeah but it was on his free time in france. He was not playing or having the EG clothes on him. It's not a full time job.

You do understand how this reflects on a team whose reputation is that of attracting sponsors like no other team can right? Overly sensitive may describe forum or Reddit reactions, but from a business standpoint this is a wrist slap.
Consider that Orb was dismissed from EG for racial slurs, Stephano's saving grace is that he plays amazing Starcraft.

everyone should start making joking about abusing minor.
in fact, some of you should start campaign about 'ABUSING MINOR JOKE = FUNNY, ENJOY LIFE' see how far that goes.

He thought he was having a private conversation, while in fact he was being streamed. EG should have given him a public "warning" for something he obviously meant to say in private.
Real overreaction from EG, but hey, us Americans love to overreact to everything.

EG is only doing what they deem safe. I don't think this was the correct move since I don't think the backlash would of been near as big as they fear, but w/e not really our problem.

Somalian jokes diying from lack of food weren't more funny... but we had a town.
Stephano, EG, Sponsors, community They shot 4 feets with only one bullet

EG I told ya! :D dont sign that crazy mofo french dude. Guess he got mad when he found out that then EG house wasnt a middle school frathouse

*sigh* I've just got to say one last thing.
I like Stephano. He is a great zerg player and has pioneered a lot of styles, especially in ZvP. I also like him because of his personality, which includes him acting like a douchebag sometimes and is always fun to watch. When he says something like, "I've already won this tournament" at WCS Europe, it just ups the stakes so much for him, since it would make him look like a fool if he lost. IMO, he just adds so much more story to the tournament than these goddamn silent foreigners and "faceless" koreans.
So he said some comment that may have some sexual implication to a buddy in a PM in a fucking video game. Now people are going apeshit over it. The worst part is all the retards calling him a "rapist" when we really have no fucking idea what happened.
All I want is to see more games and more funny interviews with Stephano. And I really hate all these North American "knights" circle-jerking in this thread how that French "rapist" committed terrible, terrible crimes. It's just sad, really, I'm not posting in this thread anymore.

Yet over 50% of this thread is in favor of Stephano making child abuse comments purely because they're fanboys.
It's just ridiculous that they can't see how biased they are. Either we persecute people for this stuff or we don't - we can't just do it inconsistently because we like or dislike somebody.

Yeah, just follow the community Wishes. We are the one who will "buy" the sponsors shits and we are the ones who are making an "image" of this.
And what we want, is seeing stephano play in tournaments.

That's a whole 0.18% of his salary. Fucking wow.
Steph loses $8k of his salary and loses opportunities to win more money in tournaments this month. But even losing $8k, that "drags" his salary down to $88,000. So his livelihood is pretty much unaffected. Also consider the shittons of money he's won already.
What this DOES do, since there is no arbitrator in esports, is set precedence over the scene, that even the most popular and accomplished foreigner is not untouchable when dollars are on the line. Interesting context. One point, however, is that most incidents that are handled within a team aren't arbitrated. They usually executed from within contractual allowances to punish "conduct unbecoming" or some form of moral clause. Similarly, most pro sports organizations, league offices and such, exact punishments without arbitration as well. That's a fair point, people do subject themselves to moral clauses and leave themselves to the whim on their masters. On the other hand, consider what stephano has done: two lines of texts indicating he's sexually aroused by, or has abused, minors (as jokes). Imagine if you could bring this to a third party. Can EG argue this is "immoral" enough to punish like this? Can they even prove the nature of his posts were even sexual? All I'm saying what he did was stupid, but probably not a violation of a morality clause. Maybe there's is an additional don't-make-us-look-bad clause, which covers anything and everything that deals with image and words. In other words: don't fuck with our money flow, or we fuck with yours.
It usually is under some "personal conduct" policy, not always under a morality policy. Usually the one covers things that the other does not. This ensures there is some punitive avenue for anything that is detrimental to the team and relevant entities. Your point about third parties is taken. I would argue that most teams would object to any contract that gave decision to enforce or maintain their brand outside of the organization itself. This is seen widely throughout the major sports landscape and its only natural to assume that it would emulated here.

This is really dumb that this happened, It is almost as if pros must stay censored at all times. This was meant to be private, but he got unlucky and as a result got in trouble in his job. People who really do not understand the circumstances did this. So annoying when people smack e-sports in the fact while not knowing anything about it and pretty much staying ignorant to logical arguments.

Its not like everybody is saying Stephano should have license to do whatever he wants. And nobody is "in favour" of jokes like that. Please think a little harder about the comments you read.
There are tens of different discussion strands going on here and a spectrum of views expressed on each one. You can't seriously be writing off everyone who disagrees with your totally one-dimensional and hyperbolic statement as biased idiots.

i hope this is a good warning to everyone in the pro scene, and that this never happens again. stephano obviously shouldnt have said what he said, it isnt the most harmfull thing, but image is important, and jokes like that can offend a lot of people. one month (or whats left of the month) i think everyone agrees is over punishment, but if it drasticly decreases the chance of something like this happening again, it is worth it to not see him play for 20 days. While we in the online community may find it funny/not offensive, we all know what american news agencies can do to a story. similar to what happened to reddit with /r/jailbait.

Some of the 2011 Korean terrans (back when they swamped code S) might be, but many are not. Regardless, there are ways to cause drama without making some very stupid joke. If anything, I was much more sympathetic towards say Naniwa's probe rush than this.

People here aren't defending Stephano making child-abuse comments. They're criticizing people who would consider that making a comment about girls of a sexual nature is something that needs to be "punished". Every single 19yo male in the world should be punished then.

And you want to punish a young man playing video game a private joke to a friend on his free time in france with family. (like I did younger pretending my mom died at school to shock my schoolmates to see their faces and laugh at them after)
And to cancel tournament, have a whole community totally disapointed, having stephano to go in korea far from his family and everything.
Juste because you're american and you are a hater. You can easily kill child in others countries with bombs and laugh about that, but you cry when you hear that a 14yo mis-educated or already-matured girl had some good time with boys.
