Why Taeja > Rain when Rain just crushed Taeja 2 weeks ago?

I'm expecting Taeja to study up a bit on Rain, and have a little more preparation for the hardcore lategame Templar drop harass. He'll probably get more missile turrets and whatnot. Also since it is a best of 7 so I expect him to throw in some shinanigan's, which hopefully Rain will be better prepared for than in this series.

All in all though I HOPE, regardless, that it ends up being a totally awesome mind blowing series!! :D

The problem is it is really hard to prepare against Rain. Rain's strength is waiting to engage at the right moments. And drop harass is just a free advantage for him. He doesn't need drops to win. As long as he can move in position fine then he will win. And from the last matches it looked like he could force those against Taeja. Sun just has better map awareness.
I'm not sure if i'm right, but i thought the drops were key against taeja. Normally he has such a big economy that he can afford to build extra production, so even if he loses a battle, he can come back. Due to drops he didn't, so every lost or traded battle was a smack in the face. But maybe i remembered it all wrong. Tends to happen sometimes.

But ontopic, this was of course a great turn of events. I came in during the 3-0 for last and was sure Last would win at least another game by some ridiculous cheese or something. But rain fought back really well. The last game Last was sweating a lot and i really felt the pressure on him. Great series!

Yes, the vast majority of games that rain won against very good terrans (last isn't one of them , he is gimmicky and has no clue how to play in the late game, vs protoss at least), he won because of drops, taeja lost because he fell apart to drops in multiple games, not necessarily because of lack of multitasking skills, but because it's really hard for terran to deal with any form of harass if proper defence isn't already in place, such as turrets and more importantly, a separate army, which creates a different problem altogether that I won't be discussing here.
So... what that make you? Good? You're not good. You just know how to hide, how to lie

edit: Also thanks for all the hard work seeker.

I don't think "BW elitism" should apply here. afaik, rain didn't actually have any major accomplishments in BW, whereas players like Jaedong dropped to code B (flash is certainly doing well though). I think Rain would have excelled at SC2 no matter where he started. TLPD shows a pretty average record (literally - 50% across all matchups total)

Rain sounds much more like an "MVP" type of character - floating around the A team, with streaks at times (I think right?) but overall average, and being much more adapted to SC2.

Granted my facts could be wrong - please correct me if they are but I think I'm relatively accurate.

All that said, the kespa players are certainly doing well, but I don't think they're doing well enough to prove that hte whole elephant in the room thing was true. You might be able to argue "they haven't had enough time" but how much is enough? And its also, imo, easier to adapt to a metagame (kespa) than invent it. THAT said, what they've done is definitely a testament to their practice regime.

Man, just pm this, don't post it here.

Otherwise, it's possible that it will stop working in one or two weeks.

OSL, GSL, WCS, and this is his first 2 months in tournament play, amazing. I am so excited to see his future, and maybe he will go with a foreigners team eventually due to so much money being over seas.

Even as a Terran player I really hope Rain wins his match vs MVP today. It would just be too epic if he won all 3 tournaments. WCS, GSL and OSL back to back. Make it rain!

Not quite.

Rain wasn't like MVP, 'floating around the A-team'. He was fresh off his rookie year as one of the best rookies in the game along with Soulkey, and became a mainstay in the SKT SPL lineup incredibly quickly. He lacks experience, but he was no doubt a rising star at the time of his switch.

Given one of his biggest weaknesses in BW was a lack of experience rather than a lack of drive/skill, I'm not surprised at all he's doing well - though I couldn't have expected such strong results.

He was a strong up and coming player. Won rookie of the year, and was on a 5 game winning streak to finish his Brood War career. He wasn't a Flash or anything, but given time, he would likely have developed into one of, if not the best protoss in the game. Iloveoov on Sun:

@eunsu111: There is rumor that (P)By.Sun is ranked number one in practice. Is this true?

A : By.Sun will grow into a force to be reckoned. He has a gift that leaves him no choice but to be good at this game. He can watch his teammates' games and copy their strategy and management on the fly. I'm not talking just the overall, I'm talking timings down to the second, building placements down to the very pixel, and harassment like you were watching a replay. He is an intricate copy machine. On top of this he knows how to adapt and think outside the box, and win the game when he has the advantage. He thinks when he plays so he will grow into a great player.

in bw the relevant period of 'strength is basically after flash wins his osl. the level of play has increased a lot and the "major accomplishments" of older players degrade very fast in present value.

having merely decent win rates in the current proleague format is already so much more of a skills accomplishment.

OSL WCG GSL champion at the same time. If Rain gets it all I think he might be the only person to achieve this in SC2 history!
