Howdy there and welcome to the top 50 streamers list thread for this month!
For those of you who don't already know what this is about: I'm gathering various data from all the streams that are presented on teamliquid.net (viewers, game, events, etc.) and use that data to produce the pretty tables you see below. The tables only contain SC2 players (that is, people streaming games of Starcraft 2 being played by themselves) and not casters, teams or other streams. The tables also only contain Starcraft 2 related activities, a SC2 streamer streaming Dota2 or other games is not being taken into account.
Since there was no clear winner from last month's poll on which ranking to use (sorting by total viewers vs. sorting by viewers*hours streamed), and a lot of people said they'd like to see both, that's just what I'll do from now on. I was not sure about the viewers*hours ranking at first, but in the end it has not favored streamers who stream a lot as much as I feared. Still, there are more streamers on that ranking that are not featured than on the other ranking, but that does not have to be a bad thing.
Oh, also, go and check out soiii's site http://sc2streamnumbers.com/ where you can check out detailed graphs of stream viewers of every stream. (Thread here). Please go and check it out, it's pretty awesome. I thought about doing something like that at some point, but soiii did it way better and prettier than I could've ever done.
Now, without further ado, here's this month's tables: (The HTML versions contain some more information due to space reasons.)
Stephano didn't stream enough in the last month, so this time there's no Stephano vs. Idra battle about who has the most average viewers. Idra wins by forfeit.
Some other notable absentees for this month: Ret, DongRaeGu, HayprO, Polt, NesTea, Mvp, Jinro.
More and more Teamless players seem to get into the top 50. Congrats!
Hui isn't the craziest streamer any more! He only streamed for 206 hours last month. ProTech, on the other hand, streamed for a whopping 347 hours! That's.. kinda crazy.
Congrats also to EG for having six players in the average viewers ranking, not to mention occupying the first two spots!
That's all I can think of for now. Hope you guys enjoyed!

As far as i remember he isn't featured, he is just under the Other section. So perhaps you have your stream sidebar settings set too not show Un-Featured streams.

True but TL, reddit/sc2, battle.net/sc2 etc have all seen a decline in traffic the last year. 2011 was a much better year in terms of viewership than 2012.
eSports SC2 isent spreading around like wildfire as some would have you believe, stream numbers for tournaments are also down.
HotS will luckily give the scene a shot in the arm

I don't really think that's the reason. I just think right now Sc2 is in a bit of a lull, people are on vacation etc. etc. There were a SHIT TON of tournaments in July so I don't see why anyone would watch a personal stream rather than any one of the huge tournaments on every weekend .

Duh? It's impossible to keep the growth that SC2 had at the beginning. Of course it's going to slow down.
BabyKnight's team is wrong, he is not on AL anymore but on FXO. Naniwa is also listed as teamless and he left Quantic after FXO signed BabyKnight, so correct it please! :D

After seeing this I realize how good EG is at being a pro gaming team. A few of their players catch crap for results, but EG certainly is a team with several players who are capable of taking 1st place at major events, at anytime. Clearly their entire team makes serious effort to create tons of content, and get eyes on their sponsors. This is EXACTLY what pro players are supposed to be doing regardless of results. You could almost say the job description of a pro gamer is to "get eyes on their sponsors in a positive manner"
I think pro teams should do even more. Very large sponsor logos on team shirts, constant mentioning of their sponsors (especially sponsored equipment they use!) and overall make as many podcast appearances and to as many interviews as possible. When not playing but present at events, they should have hats on with clearly visible sponsor logos, so every time a camera is put on them a camera is put on their sponsors. These should be the norm, there is no shame in doing your job well! I would not be surprised to see more teams named after their sponsors. This will fuel the growth of the industry. You want corporate executives who are considering sponsoring esports to say "these kids get it". EG is doing it better than the rest, but even they could turn it up a notch.
In the end the teams that do this will be the ones who last the longest, have the deepest talent pool, and have the proper resources to support every aspect of their players needs.
Really wish I would have broke into the top15 of viewers*average it's so sick how someone can stream 20hours and be right behind me :D that's just life at least people who do watch my stream enjoy it !

You sound like you're having some sort of religious experience. All hail the sponsors!
MaximusBlack I'm not surprised. His stream is very neat, but his playstyle is so irritating, probably the one and only thing keeping his viewer ship at where it is.
MarineKingPrime's stream makes me cry TT ReplayKing ftw.

THIS. Axslav is the only streamer who talks the whole time. I've learned so much from him. Honestly he's one of the smartest players i've ever seen, really analytical and very honest with himself. Also a good attitude. I'd watch Axslav over anyone, love when he's on.

Nah, people are interested in total viewer-hours per month each stream is getting. Essentially, if each streamer showed ads equally, it'd show who is making the most money from streaming (although there are a few other variables present).
On August 02 2012 01:35 grapesludge wrote: Seems like the numbers keep getting smaller every month...
If you are talking about only the +/- side of the top 50 list, then this month there has been a 2707 average viewer increase.
If you are talking about the total numbers of the top 50 list, there were 68362 in June, and 68609 in July. That is a 247 average viewer increase.
I don't know where all of this blind negativity is coming from. I know tournament numbers are down, but these aren't. Sorry to disappoint you.
The #1 rank viewers decreased this month. In May, the #1 spot was 6844. In June, the #1 spot was 6936. In July, the #1 spot was 5952.
May and June were also both a race between Stephano and Idra for the #1 spot. This month, Stephano dropped out and we have a bit of a drop-off at the very top to Thorzain at 4713 for 2nd place.
If you very quickly look at the list, it's very easy to overemphasize the first spot and get the wrong impression like grapesludge probably did, but it's good that you noticed his error and pointed it out.
i just wish stephano started streaming again. Seems he does not care to stream anymore and has hinted in some interviews that people were examining his play-style thus might be a big reason for him not streaming

Apart from thorzain though, EG players don't get many good results nowadays.

More like a shot in the foot. HoTS is going to be disastrous for the competitive side of SC2.

He's like mid 20s former military guy, who does whine a little bit. Best 2v2 stream there is though so give him some credit.
Why is ProTech's stream mentioned? Everytime I check his stream it's just him re-streaming Korean SC2 content. That's cool and all, but I thought that went against the spirit of the chart.

Hmm, it would be, yeah. I checked his stream a couple of times and saw him playing 2v2s. Can anyone confirm this/say what else he's streaming? If he's commentating/streaming Korean stuff, he's gonna be removed from the list.
