I think all of you know the website http://www.sc2earnings.com/ where you can find a nice list of all players who won any - and how much - money in any Tournament since the Sc2 release.

I don't know if anybody else has done this before but I was calculating with the information on that website a little and I like to share my results with you.

Have fun!

You are welcome.
I think is interesting how Blizzards balancing worked. In 2012 all races are pretty even while in 2010 and 2011 the Terrans took like 40% of the cake.

well you cant really say that comparing price amount won. if you look terran has won 15-20 tournament less than zerg and toss but they have been bigger ones. looking at the 2012 part only ofc.

Yes, but when the price money is high the players try to win harder than on low money tournaments, don't they?

Not quite sure thats true, you want to win everything, you might want to win more in big tournaments but that doesnt neccessarily mean you play better or somehow represent yourself better, im pretty sure that players dont decide to play any worse jsut because there isnt as much money as a gsl in the prize pool

That's pretty cool, not too surprising to see Korean Terrans doing that well.

Maybe you could add a % of earnings within each region or maybe % of earnings for each race by region (ie: Asian Terrans in 2011 made 83.67% of total Terran earnings in 2011). I'm just saying things, that would probably get confusing with all the percentages, oh well, haha. And it's also dependent on the number of tournaments/attendees in each region so maybe not

136 Zerg players have won 1.634.046$ in total!
150 Terran players have won 2.140.324$ in total!
149 Protoss players have won 1.370.474$ in total!

That streak of Terran being the dominant race. Yeesh.

When broken down by region you can see how foreign terrans don't do as well as foreign Z/P, but Korean terrans earned way more than the other two races.

"Asia"?

Be real and make it "Korea" and "Non-Korean Asiatic Nations."

It should really be by Server, and there is no "Asian Server".

not really because no race has reached any kind of skillcap yet

(and how would you conclude that terran has the highest skillcap just from these numbers anyway?)

Terran is high in KR, a bit lower everywhere else

P and Z is pretty equal in both number and prize

Because only the Korean Terrans are winning with their OP mechanics whereas the share of Terran winnings in the rest of the world is significantly less than their Zerg and Protoss counterparts.

Until very recently Terran is the most successful race in Korea and since early 2011 the worst outside of Korea. Pretty much how it was in Broodwar. Thats not good for the foreign scene.

Not really surprised that the fewest Zergs have won money, and Protoss has won the least (even with MC lol).

Terran raking in the cash, no surprise there.

I know but the rough estimation still holds.
We always knew that KR > EU > US, but now we know the multiplier is roughly 3x for those inequalities (in earnings).

P.S. If we assume this converts into skill (which isn't necessarily true), then a fairly represented tournament in skill would have something like 9 Asians, 3 Europeans and 1 American. Sounds reasonable and we have seen such top finishers often enough.

FTFY.

Well, 2010 Terran super OP. 2011 ehhhh sorta, but mainly just Korean dominance that just so happened to be Terran. Now things looking better, although I wish the NA/EU scene wasn't so skewed in favor of P / Z. T.T

Hey guys, I just updated the first post. It will show the money-by-country now.

And btw. I was wrong when I said Russia belongs to Asia, it belongs to Europe here!

shame that site still doesn't pick up on quite a few various winnings in the smaller leagues especially, but interesting figures nonetheless!

I wonder what the figures would be like if the top 3-5 earners from each race were removed. Certain players have earned a lot for their races.

Fun to look at the specific race earnings for each specific country and know who's to blame for that race being considerably more in their respective home lands...

Canada's toss... think thats a given.

US' zerg... of course

One that I deciphered that I was rather pleased with myself was Australia's zerg. Give ya a hint... the money was from the first IEM.

I like how in 2010/2011 Terran rather dominated the money, but as the game has continued to become more balanced/played/figured out it has really evened out a lot. It's probably a combo of a lot of factors, but it's cool to see 'balance' among tournament winners racially. (Although this Friday, protoss is going to get a huge addition to their yearly winnings)

Terrans win = higher skill cap

Terrans lose = Imbalance in the game

It's hilarious to think about how large a percentage of all that Protoss prize money MC is

When you've got mOOnGLaDe sitting around here with a strong ZvT (at least, last time I checked), it's just not fiscally smart to go Terran.

Looks like non-Asian Terrans aren't finding much success, while the Asian ones have made nearly double the amount the other two races made.

Top Koreans are the only ones who have made Terran work great competitively and they have done so handsomely. Off the highest stages and outside of Korean dominated tournaments like GSL, Zerg and Protoss win the day.

I think is interesting how Blizzards balancing worked. In 2012 all races are pretty even while in 2010 and 2011 the Terrans took like 40% of the cake.

Not in America. Just shows you how noob the rest of the world is compared to Korea. Only thing you can say about Terran is they had a higher skill cap.
