Homestory Cup V: Groups, Prize Pool & Tournament System
Okay guys, we finally set up the groups for the HomeStoryCup V! Only three days are remaining until TaKe's doors are opening again to the StarCraft II world elite. The lineup this time is just as awesome as last time. But let's take a closer look at the groups now:
"Also, we are sorry to announce, that WhiteRa cancelled the participation at the HomeStoryCup V due to private reasons. We are sure he has his reasons and you will maybe see a statement from him in the next few days."
The Tournament System:
- Two Group Stages - 8 groups with 4 players each ( 1st & 2nd of each group qualifiers for the second group stage) - The second group stage will have four groups with four players each - The best four players (decided via Points & Mapscore) get the chance, to switch with another player of their choice, after the seedings are done. The person who is going to be 4th will start first switching. - The top two of each group from the second stage will advance to the bracket - The bracket will be played in Single-Elimination and Best-of-Five. - The grand finals will be Best-of-Seven
I don't care who wins. I just want more awesome photoshops available and ridiculous antics. The games are secondary to the player interaction for this tournament in my eyes.
I can't wait! Homestory cup is always one of my favorite tournaments. The casting, atmosphere, and games are always excellent! So excited for this! As for predictions: Group A: Nerchio Socke Group B: ClouD, Bly Group C: Ret, Happy Group D: Sase, Darkforce Group E: MC, Hasuobs Group F: Mana, Sleep Group G: Yonghwa, slivko Group H: Mvp, Golden
Awwww yeah, can't wait for the most straight up fun tournament in StarCraft. Missing some players I expected, but the fun and atmosphere can make up for that.
I can't wait to see MC in his element like last time! =D
Hoping IM players and a lot of the personalities of sc2 get to show off.
Oh I guess they'll play games too, but I'm less interested in that =D
Also: Last year I was able to watch live, but this year I have a job haha. So was wondering what HSC is like for VODs? Are they all free, do they come up instantly, quickly or much later, etc?
I am seriously excited to see MVP play in a foreign tournament again. That being said, the very event of Homestory Cup itself is enough to get me hyped.
Holy shit, every group is very even, I don't see a specific death group, most have 1 or 2 players that I'd expect to do well but...should be fucking epic as always
Glad to see MVP in another foreign tournament without being "invited" (in the sense of tournament organisers paying his travel expenses). I hope to see more Korean teams sending their players to more tournaments soon. (Though looking at the price pool and player pool, there is a high chance that the travel will be economically viable even if he paid his own bills)

We don't know if TaKe paid for his expenses or not, it's entirely possible.
Hopefully IdrA will make a resurgance here. Although I think MVP should be able to take it all, I could see him losing early on if his wrists start acting up.

When MVP's wrists were already acting up in Providence, he was still good enough to stomp through MC in an extended series after losing due to fatigue in the first day.
At the same time, the schedule at HSC is pretty lax. Not many games per day.

most likely his friends told him hsc was a fun trip + he actually cares about his fans
and he is competing with mc and nestea for winningest sc2 player anyway so...
Reading some of the comments makes me wish that neither MVP nor MC make it past group stage one...
On July 03 2012 10:00 Nawe wrote: who is replace for whitera?
If I had to guess, I'd say monchi or bling, might have also been a zerg, though. There is a token terran in every group so I'd say none of them was White-Ra's replacement.
MC or MVP will take this. Don't see anyone capable of pulling upsets. I think i will give the edge to MC seeing his success in the previous Homestory Cups.
Didn't know Ole' iNcontroL was attending! SOLID. These groups looked stacked. There's not one with a clear favorite, save MVP of course. TaKe never ceases to amaze me with these player lineups, seriously well done. I am so excited. Fighting~!

Destiny has a tough group.
Also hoping MC will cast some games. Love the format of this tourney
Sleep ? Dafuq ?
Some of his recent wins include 2-0 Happy, 3-0 Killer, 2-0 NonY, 2-0 Grubby, 2-0 WhiteRa, 2-0 Bling, 2-0 Dragon, 2-0 Illusion, 2-0 DeMuslim, 2-0 Axslav, 2-0 Destiny, and his ZvP is really good, so yea, hes got a chance

...Not sure if serious...Providence was 8 months ago.
Group A: Socke, Nerchio, maybe ToD Group B: Bling, IdrA? Group C: Ret, ReaL Group D: SaSe, DIMAGA Group E: MC, HasuObs Group F: Sleep, MaNa Group G: YongHwa, Sheth Group H: MVP, Golden

If that prediction is true, I hope he doesn't post a picture of his baby. It would make the White-Ra's face is everywhere thread a bit too much to handle.

Lmao, so when he lost, it was due to fatigue. When he won, it was *despite* wrist acting up, so even if he lost there was still an excuse.
MVP fanboys never fails to entertain lol.
MC to win, MVP might even fail to advance his group. The 2 foreign protoss will outcheese him.
Looks awesome. Sad that White-ra can't make it, but shit happens. Really excited for MC to be coming back, would have loved to see NonY as well. All in all it looks really cool, I like the rule about the top 4 from group play get a chance to switch with someone else, makes it really interesting. Can't wait!

I guess you are right... but "ELO Rank: 359th"!? even Monchi and DBS are higher. XD
That's pretty awesome. As much as I like HSC for the entertainment value, it has been a bit too much of a Protoss-fest the last couple times. Here's hoping those three guys tear it up.

On the other hand, Incontrol is 437th... so destiny's not the lowest elo in attendance.
Gotta have your mix of personality players with your superstars or nobody is going to give a fuck about your show. Especially in a tournament like homestory cup.
sad monchi group with 2 koreans sad tlo and hasu in one group with best korean so one of the big germans already out also goody darkforce in one xD germans kills themselves .(
Kinda disapointed in the player pool. I think last hsc had the right mix of starpower vs newcomers and koreans vs foreigners. This time it feels like there is a overcompensation of foreigners so they. Can zerg their way to victory. Expecting a cheese fest in MVPs group.

I sadly agree, lot of players who have sort of fallen off the map results-wise.
O well you dont watch this one for the competition anyways, its for the fun of seeing them having a good time instead of stressing/focusing solely on the games imo. Will be entertaining for reasons other than the games.

I can't really agree with that. I only see - on average - maybe one player per group that I am surprised to see being invited into a competitive tournament. Obviously, players in Europe and in particular Germany have been favoured in getting invites, which is why Darkforce has been invited as one of the best players in Germany (as the recent something-qualifier has shown).
i think the playerfield of hsc 5 is more levelled than the last on. in hsc 4 we had MKP, hero, violet, stepahno ofc. but we also had players like moman, adelscott, aures, poyo, darkhydra, who are good but didnt stand a chance. so i think we will see more exciting games from the very beginning.

Yeah, seems overcompensated. Also, most of the NA players are the well known underperforming ones. While I can understand doing this due to their notability, it would be nice for some less well known talent to have been invited.
how have the groups been decided? completely picked by the organizers or semi-random (seeding 1 terran in the group and not more than 2 of the others)
edit: nevermind, to a very high probability completely or largely setup by the organizers as all 3 Alternate players are in the only 3 groups without a korean.
Ok I feel IdrA has a really good chance of getting out of group since his zvz is quite good so Bly should go down without much hassle and ClouD should go down without much resistance. BlinG though may give him alot of trouble though I still hold out faith he can beat BlinG...

Haha, just noticed it now. There are exactly 3 types of groups:
(a) a group with exactly one alternate player (b) a group with exactly one type player (c) a group with at least one "Korean"
So I wasnt able to find weather or not Destiny was an invite or replaced White-Ra. Anyway, Sheth's group is tough. This is a tournament I cannot wait for. TLO has a pretty decent chance of getting out of his group, I wonder how well he will do if he does. MC's commentary will be fun/funny to watch aswell. Im looking foreward to this tournament
Group A: Socke, Tod Group B: Cloud, Idra Group C: Ret, Happy Group D: Sase, Dimaga Group E: MC, TLO Group F: Mana, Sleep Group G: Sheth, YongHwa Group H: MVP, Golden
I feel MC has got this one in the bag for back to back HSC wins. That would be pretty sick. If not, then I think either Ret or MVP will take it.

Yes, but it's still possible that some players will cancel and must be replaced by players like darkhydra.
As a big fan of Goody's style I'm very disappointed with his group. I'd love to see him play against MVP or other international players. But instead he is in a group with only Europeans, against which we saw him play 100 times before. Also they know exactly how he plays, which decreases his chances a lot. So he most likely won't make it out of group stage.
I think a lot of people are underestimating YongHwa's chances to get far here, he actually beat out aLive, HyuN, RevivaL, GuMiho and Leenock to win the KR qualifier.
So many people are confident in MVP. He has not done that great in offline events, terran is at its weakest point to this date and he just went 1-4 in GSL. Like Naniwa expressed he thinks that MVP strengths lies in planing series against specific opponents on specific maps, winning the mind game. Very good in GSL format, less good otherwise.
No I think MC has probably the best odds. There are many other though, both Mana, YongHwa and Sase been on some sick runs as of late and with the state that Zerg is in now I think many of the Zergs could take it.
LOL I can't believe so many people think MVP is gonna win. This is not GSL where you can prepare cheese for opponent. I think MVP doesn't even know half of these players, and when he faces something like Bly's wacky playstyle he will have NO IDEA WTF is going on!
This tournament is either won by MC or a European.

Weird, and I thought he is the reigning GSL champion. Guess I was mistaken, my bad.
edit: nvm, I got confused with how you use "offline event".

I seem to remember Bling taking a map from him at the WCG finals ^^
Bad group for Goody unfortunately. I don't see him winning against SaSe at all and Darkforce also seems to have his number lately. Furthermore Goody lost against Delphi yesterday and flamed a bit about the match-up so he doesn't seem to like it as much as he used to. The games against Dimaga could become interesting though.
Group A: Nerchio, Socke, ToD, Naama Nerchio, Socke are the obv choices for sure.
Group B: ClouD, IdrA, Bly, Bling i think Cloud wont make it vs 2 zergs, which leaves 1 zerg getting trough, Bling is not in top form right now so i go with the two zergs to make it out of groups. Bly, IdrA. Since neither really took something down lately its prolly the easiest group, either of them would have no chance in the other ones.
Group C: Ret, Happy, ReaL, IncontroL Ret, Real will make it. Incontrol is not really in a good shape (if he ever was). Happy might upset us if he can beat both protoss.
Group D: SaSe, GoOdy, Dimaga, DarK.FoRcE SaSe, Dimaga will make it. maybe DF can upset Goody will have no chance vs 2 good zergs who can exploid him and SaSe is a monster vs terrans
Group E: MC, HasuObs, Tarson, TLO MC, Hasu will go trough. maybe TLO can upset if his PvZ is great. He recently lost to Hasu 1:2 in uber close matches at the german WCS. since he will come from korea and maybe be a bit tired i dont think he can make it tho. poor Tarson will not have any chances but he obv has to be at every HSC
Group F: MaNa, Sleep, Kas, Destiny will be close between MaNa, Kas and Sleep. Destiny will have alot of time to play poker. i go with Sleep and Kas to make it.
Group G: Sheth, YongHwa, Slivko, DBS i have not seen alot of sheth lately, Slivko and DBS can upset everyone. DBS will prepare like crazy for this event so i think he will have decent chances. i'll go with YongHwa and DBS.
Group F: MVP, Golden, NightenD, Monchi MVP and Golden are my picks. maybe Monchi or Nightend can upset.
Incontrol? Really? He really isn't on par with anyone in this tournament, though he'll most likely get eliminated in the early stages and start commentating instead, as he should.
Am I the only one who thinks Idra might go 0-6 or 6-0. Hes like the most unpredictable player here, at least he always did cast games after he went out of the tournament
I find it amusing that people here are so ignorant of history. Mvp won the first MLG he competed in and got 4th at the only other one he's played in. He also won Blizzcon and WCG, which are also LAN style events. He doesn't need tons of prep time to kill everyone.
Group A: Nerchio and Socke will advance. Group B: IdrA and Bly will advance. Group C: Ret and Happy will advance. Group D: SaSe and DIMAGA will advance. Group E: MC and HasuObs will advance. Group F: MaNa and Sleep will advance. Group G: Sheth and YongHwa will advance. Group H: mvp and Golden will advance.
Hopefully we'll see an MVP vs MC or Ret finals. I see GooDy getting out of his group, just in time to eliminate ClouD before losing to 2 gate pushes from some random protoss. Idra and Destiny to go 0-6.
Sadly since its a tournament they cant just bring all we love? Anyway biggest upset is no WhiteRa and no mkp to cast with MC. Then few terrans of who only MVP is really strong. Oh well TLO will be there :D

For your knowledge, Ukraine is not in European Union so not in the Shengen area , so you need visa. And for some reason , Kas often have some trouble to get it, he canceled a french event sometimes ago for the same reason.

Btw, is Kas really confirmed? I thought he couldn't get a visa, I might be wrong though.
I don't think you need a Visa to travel from Ukraine to Germany...
you do need one, and he applied his visa weeks ago. not sure if he got his visa in time, although he practiced vs daisy and real yesterday and they were talking about eating some food together (real and kas)
We are so lucky that the French WCS is at the same time so that Stephano can't be there. It would have been such a shame if he would have ruined the couch with his vomit after he lost.

I essentially used TLPD's vX ELOs to compute the probability for each player to advance. However, I tweaked the formula because you can't assume that a TvZ ELO 2200 player will beat a ZvT ELO 2150 player all the time, so I looked at what effect ELO difference makes, and drawing from very little data (that's where my formula is weakest; could easily improve it but that's where my laziness set in) I estimated 1 SD to affect each player's Pwin by 10% (so players within 114 ELO pts are 50%, 114-227 difference will make it 60/40 and so on). Then simply compute everything for all groups and voilá.
Edit: Of course the data is biased now, but this predicts DH stage 3 group winners with 70% accuracy. Taking the raw ELO for the same formula predicts DHs3 winners with 81% accuracy, but for HSC the two only differ in their predictions of group E and H (with a 3-way-tie between Mana, Kas and Sleep in group F). Overall ELO sees MC and TLO go through for group E and Mvp and monchi win group H. Since I disagree with these, I chose vX ELO instead.

This tournament is either won by MC or a European.
You some what have a point but Mvp does not prepare to make cheeses (i believe you are angry for him winning gsl) he played 6 macro games against squirtle every one of them were were really well prepared for squirtles gamestyle and map design. But yeah Mvp might not know every player there but he is king of preparing and might want to look at his opponents gamestyle from replays etc.
I think Mvp still has really good chances to advance if he have time to relax before tournament. MC will definitely do well and prepare for this. I think SaSe and YongHwa will also do great. SaSe has been on fire in latest tournaments and YongHwas way to victory in KR qualifiers was really hard you guys should pay more attention on him
I hope Naama will do well because i'm also from Finland but mostly i'm looking forward to see Naama casting some korean casting MC + Mvp :D

I think it would be hilarious as well because MVP is the best sc2 pro of all-time so far yet he recieves like half the attention of some bigger name foreigner players and gets a lot of shit from people who say he cant win outside the gsl(ye right, man lol). People like naniwa who say that mvp "isnt that good, he just prepares well." Are you kidding me? Mvp makes splitsecond ingame decisions every single match that puts him in a position to win. Ive never seen a guy with so many fluid builds that he can just adapt based on scouting. Thats why he is so dangerous, not because he 'prepares' well. I expect him to crush this tourny.
Only 1 name doesn't fit there IMO... Destiny. I mean - what did he do in the last HSC? He barely had any screen time, outside of the poker table. While Inc... he should be at every HSC :D "What are they doing? Are we being... trolled? Where's the camera? ...Well that was a dumb question, there are cameras everywhere." I hope for some hilariously bad games with him casting, lol, this is at least a tournament, where player-to-player(when casting) bashing is OK.

Though isn't that how it's supposed to be? Each has their own scene and within those scenes here are bigger names then compared to others. In Korea yes MVP is one of the biggest names out there though as foreigners we have our own scene as well where we have names bigger to use then those of Korea. Like for instance Naniwa and Thozain are huge names in the foreigner scene though compare it to Korea hey're minor characters in a much larger more skilled cast when put up against NesTea, MC, MMA, and MVP. Those 4 being huge names there but lesser names though still highly respected in our own scene. I could just be babbling and making no sense which is likely since I just woke up but idk, but if that's the case then I apologize for taking up everyone's time who read this incoherent nonsense.

Yeah I agree he's the clear favorite, but still not necessarily "hilarious".

Ok I´ll try myself aswell: A: Nerchio and Socke, but ToD has a decent chance to upset (if you can call that upset). You shouldt never underestimate Naama tho. B: I can see ClouD, IdrA or Bly advancing here, but not BlinG I think. IdrA can go 6:0 or 0:6... hmm I go with the Zergs, IdrA and Bly. C: Obv. Ret for number 1, but place to will be a heavy fight between Happy and ReaL... I hope for ReaL. D: I wouldt like to see the two Germans advancing obv., but SaSe and Dima are to strong I guess. DF can upset them maybe. E: MC and Hasu. F: Kas and MaNa. G: YongHwa and as my Dark Horse DBS, who has been on fire lately and giving us great games in TSL 4 Quali and EPS. H: Mvp and monchi, so Nightend can cast =)
they forget to invite daisy. korean player who recently moved to germany and is playing for german team ESC and easily qualified for TSL4 a few weeks ago.

Alright cool, thanks for replying. Love me some stats & prob :d
Was thinking of doing something similar myself, but I'm lazy and got exams atm ;(
groups b c and f should be the easiest just because idra incontrol and destiny are in there
the other groups seem quite stacked
why does everyone think idra is going to have a chance of making it out of the groups? if he plays anything like he did in the last ~10 months he will get smashed I think
nerchio MVP and MC are definitely my favourites to win it all (since stephano isn't there )

A-C are absolutely terrible and surprising predictions imho. are you a betting man, trolling, or just serious?
group A you pick Naama?? over either nerchio or Socke. hell, ToD is not even a favorite to most here since nerchio and socke both have been on fire lately but at least that pick makes sense. I would pick nerchio and socke.
group B you pick BlinG over Bly despite the group having 2 zergs and 1 terran. lol. I understand you are from italy so you gotta pick cloud, thats fine. I would pick Bly and ClouD.
group C you don't pick Ret. Nothing to say really.
group D i agree with you group E Tarson is a wildcard but not necessarily a bad pick group F selfexplanatory group G makes sense, EU underrates sheth as always but you are picking the on-paper favorites group H i would not be surprised if nightend falls to golden or monchi but again, on-paper favorites
For group A i picked ToD because I was a fan of him during WC3 and Naama because he has a really unpredictable style and can surprise any opponents with his builds. Group B i think that IdrA is really overrated. I don't know much about Bly so i can't tell how good he is. Group C, same as group B. Ret overrated IMHO.
Wow there actually really are people who still don't know anything about this game... sad to see.
Anyways, really excited for the family like atmosphere.
WOW JUST WOW. There is no need to be such a douchebag over predictions... jesus christ people these days...
I bet that you are a Idra fan. Doesn't surprise me, seeing from your arrogant post
If we were to associate bad posts with Idra fans, pretty much 70% of TL would be Idra fans, and that's just silly
Shoudl prob add to the OP when exactly this is. I missed this tourney completely completely last time, and want to watch this time...but I can't figure out when it is?

July 5th-8th. Though not sure the exact time it starts.
Nerchio He is the favorite to win the group. Although he struggles a bit with ZvP, he should be able to top the group with pure skill and the power of Zerg. Socke, ToD Both are fighting for the 2nd spot. Socke might be the favorite here cause he seems to always do well at major tournaments, but ToD is not to underestimate and overseen quite often Naama i give naama the least chances and therefore the last stop. didnt see much of him lately, but his SCVs are always dangerous. could surprise, but is expected to be last.
Group B:
The most balanced group overall. Pretty hard to judge, but ill do it anyway IdrA I take IdrA to top the group. Not because of his last results obviously, but he seems well prepaired for homestorycup (went 5 days early to europe to overcome jetlag and be better prepared). Also, he trained quite hard lately. I simply hope he can show what he got. ClouD I call ClouD to make the 2nd rank. Not only is he quite solid and showed decent games in the past months, but also is Take's place his 2nd or 3rd home. Bly, BlinG Well, im not very sure with those 2. Bly showed amazing results in the last few weeks, but most of his games have been quite "gimmicky" if i might say so. Also, he is a last minute invite and might be the least prepaired (well, he probably plays the whole day anyway :D ). Many ppl call out BlinG now because of his performance at WCS UK, but i dont think ppl should overrate this. he still has chances to make it out of the group - he could 3-0 or 0-3 honestly, just like Bly.
Group C:
Ret, Happy One of those 2 to top the group. Ret might have the slight edge here cause he has more "sc2 lan experience", but Happy can be a beast and i hope he can show his real skill to some ppl out there. Ret for one, Happy for two probably ReaL Well, I'm not quite sure about ReaL honstely. he can surprise ppl and stomp the group or play 1 base warpprism DT drop in all 6 games and go 1-6 or whatever in maps. He is pretty much a high skilled darkhorse just like bly. iNcontroL I like incontrol and his play is quite solid. But i think this level of play is slightly too much for him. i have him as 4th place in this group sadly.
Group D:
SaSe Probably the favorite to top the group. Amazing results lately (although he "underperformed" a bit at Dreamhack... at least for a top 5 foreigner that is ), not much to say here. DIMAGA Dimaga somehow always plays amazing at Lan events and can beat anyone, even SaSe. Therefore, i pick him as solid 2nd place in the group. DarKFoRcE, GoOdy The two germans in this group have it pretty rough. Darkforce can be pretty skilled and take out huge names, especially on Lan (see his win vs MKP at WCG), but he also played quite some D3 and is currently hard to judge. You never know with our Panzergeneral man. He can lose to random123 or roll over nestea with his tanks. his tvp is quite solid with BIO now (ye, stimp is no autoloss anymore). We will see
Group E: MC President toss, HSC IV Champion, BossToss. 6-0 ezpz. HasuObs, TLO Well, its a bit of a rivelry i might say? There is quite often bets going on when those 2 ppl meet - and HasuObs seems to have the better end of it always. We will see who takes it this time in the group. But i still see HasuObs as the more solid player and give him the 2nd rank therefore. Tarson Tarson was once one of the top european terrans, but then went more or less inactive for quite some time. He improves slowly again, but i dont think he is on the level he needs to be yet. The drunken Terran will still give us a good time watching HSC5
Group F:
MaNa, Kas, Sleep How can i predict this group ffs. i probably couldnt find more evenly matched ppl of different races... Well... i go with MaNa to top the group. Just cause he won dreamhack and might have a run. And Kas the 2nd - because i like him and hes a foreigner But i honestly have no idea who wins the group. I know one thing though! Destiny I like destiny and im super happy he makes it to homestory cup again. but i dont see him having a chance in that hard group :/
Group G:
YongHwa He won the korean qualifier, therefore he should be pretty much untouched. Am i right?^^ I dont think he will have an easy time, but he should top the group nontheless. sLivko, Sheth Most ppl would probably say that Sheth is the more accomplished and skilled player. BUT. sLivko probably has the best ZvZ in europe (at LEAST top 3). I think this might give him the slight edge over mannerbear Sheth. sLivko is pretty damn good. Still happy Sheth makes it to HSC5 and he obviously has a shot. DBS DBS might not be known to many ppl, but he performs pretty well nationally and in online tournaments. He is pretty solid and innovative in his strategies, a hard worker and "one of the few terrans who builds SCVs - i dont like to play those guys" - Axlav. He dont see him making it out of the group, but quite some ppl will be surprise about his play.
Group H:
MVP MVP. Golden, NightEnD, monchi Im not quite sure who will take the first of 3 spots in this group. Golden is a pretty good korean zerg and qualified via (na) qualifiers - former SlayerSGolden obviously. Mickey "NightEnD" Mouse trained in korea and did pretty well in the korean GM ladder (which is an accomplishment in itself). He is incredibly solid and extremly passive. monchi is probably the least known out of those 3, but he has sick timings in PvZ and quite good PvP. i have no idea how to call that 3 man group, ill just give it to the korean, cause they (usually) own white dudes.

For some reason nobody in this community has a memory longer than 3 months or so. When I saw people calling him out as a gimmicky cheeser during his latest run to the GSL title, I wasn't sure whether to laugh at them or petition for them to be permabanned for stupidity.

Well, tbh naniwa doesn't do well in either format, so...

When MVP's wrists were already acting up in Providence, he was still good enough to stomp through MC in an extended series after losing due to fatigue in the first day.
At the same time, the schedule at HSC is pretty lax. Not many games per day.
...Not sure if serious...Providence was 8 months ago.
Group A: Socke, Nerchio, maybe ToD Group B: Bling, IdrA? Group C: Ret, ReaL Group D: SaSe, DIMAGA Group E: MC, HasuObs Group F: Sleep, MaNa Group G: YongHwa, Sheth Group H: MVP, Golden
Read the comment I was responding to. His point was that the style of tournament would affect player XYZ's success. My point was that even back then, with arguably worse conditions, MVP has won or done extremely well in these types of tournaments.
So, it's not a matter of the style of tournament for MVP. Whether or not his condition is good right now is much more relevant.

Yeah, man, MVP's just using mindgames to trick us into believing that he has CTS. I mean, he obviously just sucks otherwise.
-_-
I actually watched the replays, you know. Against Losira in the Winner's bracket group finals, for example, he was floating thousands of resources in the midgame. I believe that was 2 series before the first MC match.
Btw, I've read a few of your other posts. TvP isn't the only matchup in the world, buddy.
Will be keeping an eye on Golden, people are really talking him up lately but I haven't had a chance to see him play yet. Will also be keeping an eye on Tarson, there's a name I haven't seen in a long while.
If I had to wager on a winner I'd go with Ret, he's totally stomping every premier tournament at the moment. I'd keep an eye on HasuObs too, if he can beat MC I see him making top 3.
Such a great tournament for the fans like getting to see the pros commentating each other is awesome. Looking at the groups I feel bad for destiny his group is insane.
Best tournament ever coming! Not sure i like how the groups are set up though. Every group has 1 terran and 2+1 zerg/protoss. First time i've seen groups planned by race.
On July 04 2012 08:23 johax wrote: If goody knocks out mvp before mvp reaches idra, idra wins!
I see little to no chances for Goody to make it out of his group.
Never ever EVER underestimate goody! he is the king of upsets man !
Yeah, but Darkforce knows him so well and SaSe is extraordinarily good against Terran, especially since Goody is struggling a bit vs Protoss. I wouldn't be surprised to see him beating Dimaga, but he'll still need a lot of luck to make it out of his group.
Sorry, in case someone already wrote it, but this is quite interesting news. HSC V winner gets a spot a the Season 7 IEM World Finals, just like they did last time with HSC IV. It wasn't in the original announcement afaik.
I hope for some good TLO hasu games, because it will be the match for the second place in their group( most likely) and they have some kind of rivalry.
Poor goody gets the worst group possible Best group would have been an american, a lower profile korean and cloud. Because well, goody owns cloud, everyone knows that xD

0-6 as always.
As always? He's just in a slump but before that he was the best foreigner for the longest time.
he was good but top foreigner lol? comon even you know thats bs
For say the first year since beta he was definitely among the top foreigners and even during most of 2011 he was arguably one of the top foreigners. Not to forget that he definitely the most successful bw foreigner of all time. People tend to forget so quickly, yes idra is having a really rough, and for his standards, terrible year, but that really doesn't change anything about his amazing results in the past.
Really excited about this should be an amazing tournament as always, hsc is certainly a one of a kind competition and never disappoints.

Aren't there any european terrans that can jump in short notice? Would suck if they replace kas with a zerg turning that group into Mana v Zerg, and then ZVZVZVZVZVZ.
Group B seems really lackluster compared to the rest.
Cloud is kind of good, but the rest? Meh...
Also, where's Grubby?
Other than that, this is shaping up to be an awesome tournament. The prize-pool is getting out of hand, there's tons of talent and brilliant casters, MC and MVP at the same tournament is always something to be excited about and a Bo7 finals is something even MLG could adapt.
My predictions, not in order: A: Naama, Nerchio B: Bly, Cloud C: Happy, Ret D: SaSe, DIMAGA E: MC, HasuObs F: Kas, MaNa G: YongHwa, sLivko H: mvp, NightEnD
Predictions in order: Group A: (Z)Nerchio, (P)ToD Group B: (Z)Bly, (P)BlinG Group C: (T)Happy, (P)ReaL Group D: (P)SaSe, (Z)DIMAGA Group E: (P)MC, (Z)TLO Group F: (P)Snute, (Z)Sleep Group G: (P)YongHwa, (Z)sLivko Group H: (T)mvp, (Z)Golden
I think Kas will be replaced by a terran, Heromarine seems very likely since there are summer holidays anyways in germany and I expect him to be at take's place either way. Krass would definetly deserve it too.
Can't wait for this to start! Quite excited and interested how the players is going to play tomorrow. Maybe see some new strategies. I know that i've been experimenting with some new builds and i hope some of these players have done that too.

Type|Naruto? Didn't Naruto replace someone in HSC3 or 4.. Iirc he did rock-paper-scissors with Rotterdam and winner was a replacement

Heh think it would have made more sense if they could switch withanyone they wanted except the other 3 players who where alowed to switch.
Otherwise the solution with 4 best winners in groups rest of the winners in 1x group and the rest 8 drawing is ok allthough randomising the 12 players instead of the last 8 would be fine with me as well.
all in all it ended quite good even though it was more player driven than admin driven
