The topic of caster quality, as well as the overall shortage of casters has been increasingly popular recently. As I am a caster, and as I sympathize with a lot of the concerns with casting that come from all demographics; players, spectators of all types, and other casters, I thought to create a thread for casters to network with each other toward the ends of refinement and collaboration of ourselves, and subsequently our scene as a whole.
The blooming caster is typically a solo caster, and rightly so as you really need to get over the many failures that can be expected of a novice, regardless of what they are trying their hand at. It also takes time for us to recognize and develop our own style, while learning how to rein it in a bit so as to offer a more balanced, or broadly accessible commentary.
What next? Some casters try to get in on ground level tournament streams, offering their passion and expertise there to gain some recognition while getting practice in. Others follow in the footsteps of those who run their own youtube channel, continuing to solo cast. You may even happen upon the occasional local event where you get to try your hand at bringing the excitement to a live crowd.
But there's more that most of us at the unprofessional (or unpaid) level can be doing to improve our casting, taking us where we want go. I've noticed a few elements that have been shaping the professional casters - elements that we do not get much exposure to at the pre-professional level.
It seems to me that most of the pro level casters have gotten a chance to cast with most of their peers. Between various events, or the random one-off stream, they've been exposed to and forced to adapt to other casters styles. They've seen the difficulties as well as the opportunities for casting with others who have their own approach to building and relaying the excitement of the game. They've learned what of themselves they can add to a different casting experience that others already enjoy, to create something greater, with broader appeal. They've developed the kinds of chemistry that allows them to breeze through the opening minutes of every game, the dry spots and the time in between games with seeming ease.
Essentially, they network with each other. Granted that many of them are notorious self-starters who have always casted within their own style. But there's not a one of them that hasn't learned from their fellow casters. Or that hasn't been motivated, inspired, and-so supported by the view of others like them, so passionate about the game and committed to putting time into bringing the best possible viewing experience to their fellow nerds.
As a solo caster, with limited to no experience at the pro level, it's very difficult to feel competent in all of the ways that professional casters display, many of which we as fellow casters recognize as being fundamental to delivering a smooth, involving cast with no dry spots, forced passion or other mistakes that are somewhat typical of amateur casters.
So I want us to network with each other. The casters that already have experience under their belts, who are eager to experience, learn and enjoy what they can from simply casting with each other.
Actually, I want us to do more than that. I want us to become friends who watch games together over Skype. Collaborators that fuel each others ideas and pursuits within the scene. Associates that can give each other honest, unrestricted feedback, because we take our improvement seriously. Who knows, we might even find the Tasteless to our Artosis.
But what I really want, more than any of this at the level of individuals or partners, is a refinement of the scenes casting as a whole. Over the last year we've seen a lot of improvements. The oldest faces continue to solidify themselves as household names within the scene, while new bloods have made splashes that became careers.
And yet, we still have so much further to go. Lots of people are less satisfied than I think they could be. Some casters show talent and devotion to practice that their peers do not. The success of events (the biggest focal point of our community) depends on many things. But it's self-evident, the severe degree to which casters play a role here. The community has noticed, and it waits for stronger candidates to fill the roles that play such a unique and integral role in what Starcraft 2 is. More than that, what eSports is. And what it can be.
Honestly, there aren't a lot of casters, and that's a big part of the lack of choice, or superior choice in our scene. But we can still do better with what of us there are.
And so, let us network. Below is a simple form that you can fill out in your response, to leave as a calling card for other casters who may be interested in getting in touch and casting some games together. Take your time with it; nobody is going to be interested in an anemic profile when they have a host of others to go with. Sell yourself accurately without going overboard. And don't just fill out your own and then hope for the best. Check through the other casters replies and be the one to get the ball rolling. The go-getters are the ones to find success in this still fresh niche market for jobs. And to be honest, the hardest work has already been done here. A tip of the hat to the forerunners who have paved the way - they know who they are.
It'd be nice if you leave your completed form within spoiler tags so as not to flood the conversation with walls of text that people are going to be finding from the index in the OP anyway.
Please share this thread with anyone you know who is sincerely interested in and has experience with casting.
1v1 League and race: Top masters NA / Low masters KR - Zerg
Age: 25
Casting experience: I was one of the most popular players / streamers / solo commentators during the first half of the beta. I regularly had 1-2 thousand viewers and would often pause to go on educational rants and presentations in the vein of Day[9]. Since then I've been off and on with my efforts to practice casting - largely hindered by the loss of my ability to run an acceptable stream anymore. But I am serious, and have even started learning Korean, primarily towarad the end of being able to live that dream of casting in Korea one day, and maybe being able to translate interviews and that kind of thing.
I'm used to casting for lots of people and am very confident about it. Recently, I've casted small tournaments and practice group king of the hills and other low profile in-house games. I also have a local friend that I have been practicing casting with here and there over the last some months.
Comments about myself as a caster: I'm very analytical and derive a natural passion from the game at that angle, a la Artosis. I do a great job here and have always received good feedback for my strengths in this regard. I have a strong RTS background being semi-pro in WC3 nearly a decade ago, and have stayed in shape mechanically throughout this time, having made an effort to prepare for SC2 by doing ICCUP BW. I was doing very well as a player in the beta - you can liquipedia me to see the kinds of tournaments / players I was running with. I have a great sense of humor and can be quite silly, but don't often get to show that as much when I am casting solo.
What I'm looking for: I'd really like to meet any casters with some natural talent and the will to provide me with a ny feedback, and I'd love to offer the same. But I am most interested in other casters who can understand the game pretty well (be at least diamond) but who are better than me at the sociable and silly part of things, so that they may draw more of that out of me and so that we can develop a repoire and learn how to create an engaging cast that is both informative and humorous, or elsewise sociable. I'm looking for a bit of counterbalance from another nerd that is also extremely passionate about SC2, and who thoroughly enjoys watching the game and being able to relay what they love about it. But I'm up for casting games with anyone who is talented and that would like to give and receive feedback I would also really appreciate being able to work with others who may be able to provide their own stream, assuming it is of quality.
Can I stream: Nope. Almost but the PC just can't quite handle the last few fps needed for me to stream smoothly anymore.
Links to examples of your casting (optional): All of my VODs have been cleared from the site they were hosted on - I do not currently have any recordings of myself.
How to get ahold of me: You should just PM me here on teamliquid, but you can also find me on NA as Lumi.862 or on KR as Lumi.863. I'm completely up for skype or vent etc but will wait until we talk to set that up.
Casting experience: I've had experience casting with a few different co-casters, but also I have experience as an actor (my career outside of SC2 is as a performer/actor in NYC). I've even done some voice over commercial work in the past. I have a strong voice and a strong knowledge of the game. I off race as protoss at a masters level and I've been playing SC2 since the beta.
Comments about myself as a caster: Again as I said I have a solid knowledge of the game and a pretty analytical style of speaking about the game. I do try to practice, but unfortunately my computer is currently incapable of streaming, which has definitely slowed me down.
What I'm looking for: I'm looking for anyone who is seeking a co-caster or anything of the like - I would just like to get a few more casts out there so that people can get a sense of what I sound like and what I'm capable of! So if anyone needs a caster, hit me up and I'll jump in!
Can I stream: At the moment, no. I hope to be upgrading my computer shortly.
How to get in touch with me: PM me here or hit me up on bnet - Zennith.872
1v1 League and race: Random Top 8 Diamond (Was Top 25 Masters before i switched to R)
Age: 23
Casting experience: I have recently started casting seriously trying to improve on all fronts i have casted a few events. I cast at the SCV Rush Diamond/Plat tournament every week, also i have done a Destiny vs Drezi Showmatch with 700 live viewers at the time and i had to solo cast which was a pretty decent experience
Comments about myself as a caster: I think i'm a Play by play commentator i like getting stuff hyped up during engagements and really describing there engagements down to the tee, i can do Analysis but it wouldn't be as strong as my play by play.
What I'm looking for: I am still working on the Analysis side hence why i switched to random. I would love to find a strong analysis caster to co cast with and cast some epic games! ^_^
1v1 League and race: Platinum Random (as of season 7. Have been Diamond Random in previous seasons.)
Age: 24
Casting experience: Limited but growing. I've had a solo youtube casting project that has been going on for about a month now. I've helped to cast a single live lan event (SoCal Esports Irvine) and Team Impulse has recently taken me on as one of their regular casters for their clan wars and show matches.
Comments about myself as a caster: My approach to casting is very versatile. I like to think I have the ability to analyze games very well but also my talent for speaking quickly is useful for describing play by play action as it happens. I try to incorporate humor into my casts to balance everything out as well. My camera control does continue to need improvement as much as I think I've improved it already. Casting comes natural to me and people have told me that I have a lot of obvious passion for the game which helps them a lot to buy into the the action.
What I'm looking for: Opportunities and feedback. As simple as that. The best way to improve is to continue to practice and listen to community feedback. The best way to learn to work with co-casters is by working with co-casters. So on and so forth.
How to get in touch with me: easiest way is by email, but finding me is as easy as typing ktvindicare into google. I also check my PMs on TL regularly. People have been submitting replays to me since I first started that way.
Casting experience: About 5 months, I think. Maybe four. Usually about 10 hours a week, sometimes more, sometimes less.
Comments about myself as a caster: I consider myself an analytical caster. I'm not the kind of caster that yells or gets excited every engagement, I have a calm and patient style that focuses on being informative and occasionally educational. I like to think that I have a level of knowledge above my ladder rank (though I think everybody thinks that). I like to joke around, and think I have a decent sense of humor, but my casts have been generally lacking in terms of funny shit, which is hard to do solo.
What I'm looking for: Feedback and co-casters, mostly. I don't have much of any experience casting with someone else, and I figure it's something I should work on.
Can I stream: Yep. Stream link's in sig. I can't get great quality, though.
Links to examples of your casting (optional): Youtube link in sig, I'm pretty lazy about uploading my casts though.
How to get in touch with me: PM on team liquid, I guess. I check it pretty often.
Casting experience: 10 months of casting for eXe's various tournaments on at least a weekly basis, including casting with Martijn on GLHF.tv for the first EU/NA eXe Opens. Soon to be a caster gameHUD.tv. I also stream fairly often, and for my friends and random people that tune in, try to entertain them as best I can during my games.
Comments about myself as a caster: With a background in improvisational drama, acting and musical performance, I am very experienced in putting on a show. I love both exploring the intellectual depths of the game and getting excited over the play by play side of things, and very much enjoy being paired with someone who has good game knowledge, and can thus set them up to talk about the game in a fluid and easy fasion. My exams end on the 19th of May, whereupon i will have a good amount of time to finally play the game a lot more, and am confident of a speedy increase in skill to at least masters league, which will help immensely with my own game knowledge. I think my two greatest strengths are being able to continue regardless of the situation (crisis, downtime, technical problems etc) and being smart enough to recognise the limits of my knowledge, and thus being able to not (too much at least ^_^) make the mistake many of the lower league casters such as myself make, which is making statements about the game which are false or innacurate, which has been known to turn off many viewers.
What I'm looking for: Opportunities and Events to live-cast, as well as meeting other casters to learn and get more experience in the trade. This would also help me meet event organisers and thus help with networking and finding further opportunities to produce content.
Can I stream: Yes, in HQ.

1v1 League and race: Protoss / Diamond (As of 5/5/12. Though, honestly, I expect this to change quickly as my semester is finally wrapping up)
Age: 21
Casting experience: Currently a caster for all tournaments of the New England Starcraft 2 League, and for the Taiwan Honor Cup. In the past I have done events such as the 'LookNoHands' fundraiser and some other small tournaments. Regarding game experience, I have been playing SC2 since beta. Before this I dabbled in other RTS games, such as Warcraft 3. However, most of my gaming time in the past was devoted to playing Halo at a competitive level.
Comments about myself as a caster: My main goal as a caster is to express the complexities of SC2 in a manner that is both entertaining and easy to understand. That being said, while I tend to try and be as analytic as possible, during an exciting battle, I will fall back to play-by-play and try to bring out the pure excitement of the moment. I have been told that my voice suits my casting well, but feel that there is always room for improvement.
What I'm looking for: Any casting opportunity. From large to small I feel that it is important to get out there and cast. In my opinion, a tournament should be cast the same way regardless of if there are 5 viewers or 50,000. So, I suppose I am looking for anyone who shares that opinion and would like to do some casting with me.
Can I stream: Yes. I have more experience in casting than I do in production, but I am capable.
Links to examples of your casting (optional): All the New England SC2 League tournaments are on http://www.twitch.tv/nesc2league. Hours and hours of me casting. The most recent couple tournaments are best, as there are some technical issues if you go further back. i.e. poor sound quality in the recording. Note that these are, of course, dual cast - but I'm the one with my name in front of me.
How to get in touch with me: PM on TL (JethroTV) will be fine for initial contact. I of course have skype and such for casting afterwards. Or tweet at me would work too I suppose. @JethroTV
- Currently Leading High Level Team Nightmares (NMx) [I've recently signed a contract to become the leader of NMx which has 11 Grand Masters and will be attending MLGs plus playing in all kinds of the leagues within the community. I will be attending the MLG Spring Championship in Anaheim, CA.]
- Gaming at a high level for 5 years since 2007 [I spent 4 years of my life dedicating 12 hours a day to not only gaming Starcraft, but also furthering the Starcraft community. In SC1 I was a famous member of the FMP community which is where professional gaming team Vile game from. Some other members of the FMP community who are now doing great things in SC2 are Adelscott who was on Mili and Stalife who has been on multiple professional teams and was A- on iCCup.]
- 4 years of experience leading top level teams [In SC1 I was leader of the best and most dominant league team in the FMP community which is saying a lot since a lot of the people I was competing against are now all very big in SC2 or at least high master league players. My team was the most consistent and won more league championships than any other team. When SC2 started I became leader of Team SCD (Starcraft Dream) which was endorsed by starcraftdream.com. SCD developed from scratch into having 7 Grand Master league players and many other extremely high master league gamers. Team SCD dominated clan wars on the North America server and sent some of our roster to compete at MLG.]
- Reached a rank of #122 Grand Master playing Random [As a gamer I am a very macro intensive player who relies on creativity and massing to overwhelm opponents. I wanted to play Random because I am a coach and wanted to know the ins and outs of all match-ups so that I could effectively teach people. Currently I am at a Top 8 Master league level because now that I'm a leader of a good team I don't have time to focus on my own play as much, instead using my time for management, marketing, casting etc.]
- Been a coach for over a year [I have always been very passionate about advancing the gaming community so I decided to make a thread on Team Liquid to coach for free. After getting over 300 requests in just 1 day I decided that I had to charge money because there was no fair way that I could decide who to pick, so I would just use charging as a way to let the most serious people get lessons from me. My best coaching achievement was taking a Silver Zerg player to high Master League in only about 2 months.]
- Administration member of big time Starcraft sites [iCCup, Vile Gaming, and Starcraft Dream are all web sites that I have been a high ranked administrator on. My biggest moment as an administrator was when I was able to get an interview with IdrA. I asked Tasteless if he could introduce me to IdrA with the purpose of interviewing him about being a pro gamer in Korea (this was back in 2009 when it was big news for an American to go to Korea). I may have been the first person from the Starcraft community to interview IdrA when he was in Korea. Here is a link to that interview I did with IdrA.] http://www.starcraftdream.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42047
- Casting of over 200 Starcraft matches [In SC1 I was the most known commentator and the person who brought commentary to the FMP community. My videos got over 5,000 views and some of them got around 15,000. When GOMtv was accepting applications for casters of Code A GSL in Korea I applied and made it to the final-cuts. They decided to hire Wolf in that instance but I believe I could have done a great job at GOMtv, I was even good friends with Moletrap who is now a GOMtv caster back from knowing him in SC1.]
- Hosting tournaments and all-star events [When SC2 came out me and my real life friend decided to start an event series called Chofly. Our first SC2 event had HuK, TT1, CatZ, LzGamer, HasHe, QXC, DdoRo, Machine, Kyhol, ViBe, Inka, Stalife, Slush and SeleCt, all of which are now pro gamers some of which later participated in NASL or GSL . Here's a link to it: http://challonge.com/choflyinvite
****Qualifications****
- Video Production [In the FMP community I did everything from commentaries to montages to pimpest plays videos. I can do it all from Photoshop to Screen Capture and adding audio to make a great video. Here is a link to a hype video I made for my Battle of the Legends tournament for SC1.]
Here is the most recent cast of mine, EGIdrA vs NMxMasa (not a lot of views because I just started this youtube channel literally 3 days ago, going to build it up)
- Photoshop [I have 5 years experience making images in Photoshop and I can make pretty much anything that would ever need to be made for a gaming video or gaming event.]
1v1 League and race: Platnium (will hopefully be diamond by tomorrow -_- ) /Zerg
Age: 26
Casting experience: Growing at a rapid rate. Been "active" since 4/12
Comments about myself as a caster: Confident, articulated and knowledgable. In a duo, I can do analysis or play by play. I am extremely easy to work with and possess great communication skills. Good camera/observation skills.
What I'm looking for: Opportunites to cast great games played by great players. From a bronze practice match to GSL Code S. I just love this game.
Can I stream: Yes, I can. Though I have not started streaming yet.
1v1 League and race:Mid diamond Terran (was mid Master Terran before I stopped playing regulary - no just watching)
Age: 31
Casting experience: I have lots of experience presenting data in front of critical audiences (as a scientist). But not SC2 casting.
Comments about myself as a caster: I would try to explore a lot of the motivations for choosing builds in the early game (meta-game trends). I guess I can do both analysis (with a partner) and play-by-play
What I'm looking for: I wanted to make an own thread to look for a partner for new style of commentary. Basically I would like to try making predictions based on the build and see which prediction comes true. Like analytical banter.
Can I stream: Haven't set up yet, but should be able to.
How to get in touch with me: Just PM me. I would gladly assist in casting stuff.
1v1 League and race: High Master EU Protoss player
Age: 18 (19 this winter)
Casting experience: Done several solo tutorial casts about how to play Protoss and recently joined Imbatv as a caster.
Comments about myself as a caster: A very analytical caster. Play by play and humor are not my strong suites.
What I'm looking for: Not much right now, but its always nice to get in contact with more casters.
Can I stream: I can stream 720P on my laptop, but not stream while playing on my deskop. This will change within a week or so though when i get my new desktop.
Casting experience: 2 months, 1 local lan, solo and duo casting of amatuer and professional level games
Comments about myself as a caster: I am new, but I am driven and I feel I have natural talent. I have a public speaking background and a 'quality of voice'. I have absurd amounts of free time right nowt to cast all day every day. I feel that I am skilled at 'play by play' but I also watch a ton of starcraft and have a very analytical and close eye so I am certainly able to provide some analytical insight.
What I'm looking for: I am currently doing this for fun, but I can honestly see myself trying to make it into something more if it is something that I am truly good at and people respond well.
Can I stream: In beautiful 1080p
Links to examples of your casting (optional): youtube.com/beefpotpie1
How to get in touch with me: twitter - @beefpotpie1, -beefpotpie1@gmail.com, twitch pm - Beefpotpie1, youtube PM - /beefpotpie1, TL PM.
Casting experience: LAN ETS (offline tournament in Canada), Zowie Divina (offline tournament in China). Online tournaments: Playhem EU & NA, Iron Lady Leetgion Tournament, Korean Star League (NsHs vs. oGs), GameCreds EU, ESL BENELUX Qualifier no.5 and IEM BENELUX Qualifier.
Comments about myself as a caster: I do play by play & color but I also do a bit of analysis. I'm struggling to find the right balance. I have a French accent. I casted mostly in English so far but I can cast in French aswell. I rarely did solo casting so far.
What I'm looking for: feedback, new casting opportunities and new contacts.
Casting experience: A year experience, will do my first live event this 12th
Comments about myself as a caster: I cast both in spanish and english, I really enjoy duocasting, I don't care what league the other person is, or their experience, I've co-casted for the first time with a lot of guys Live without making it sound awkward.
What I'm looking for: Have fun, meet other casters/commentators, create more content and improve my analysis.
Casting experience: Personal stream and show HardCorey Time
Comments about myself as a caster: I started a project called Question Time where I went and replied to strategy forum posts with replays and did some analysis. I like posing questions and I like discussing things.
What I'm looking for: Something and someone to get be back into it and become more focused. I'll cast and do shows nonstop for a couple weeks and then abruptly stop. Id love to continue with my strategy forum improvement project as well, and it might be stronger if I have some back and forth discussion instead of me just talking out of my ass the whole time.
I want us to become friends who watch games together over Skype
^from the OP, This is what I would want as well.
Can I stream: Yes, not the best quality though. Don't have the greatest internet speeds.
1v1 League and race: Protoss, high silver, random, low silver
Age: 16
Casting experience: I've got a small youtube running with 10 or so games on it but i cast alot on live stream as well
Comments about myself as a caster: My casting as general is quite good but my mouse control is really bad... I often try to predict what will happen to quick so for long periods you will be looking at a blank space than a single viking will come along. how ever I am a very passion caster and some of my youtube stuff wont show that because I fail at casting at a time when I'm not tired...
What I'm looking for: Small tornament to do casting for... "work experinence" I guess But really any casting experience is good all the same
1v1 League and race: Used to be Masters, now Plat (now time for the game, sadly) Protoss
Age: 22
Casting experience:
- GameCreds Cup - Go4SC2 - i43 (With Totalbiscuit and dApollo) - Grubby Pro Invitaional #1 - Craft Cup - Imbalonian SC2 Cup - Zotac Cup - 4PL Close Combat Cup - World Cyber Games Germany
Comments about myself as a caster:
I cast both in German and in English. I grew up bilingual, so my English is pretty good, though I do have problems with the "th." I first came in to the SC scene with BW, but did not have a lot of interest. I played it occasionally. But then, when SC2 came out I was hooked and did a lot of all nighters. After some time I started casting and uploaded my first VODs to Youtube. I reached 1000 subs in 2 month, from zero. After some time I started live casts and head a peek of 3.000 concurrent viewers casting the first Grubby Pro Inv in German.
But it was too much. I casted 5 days a week, each day around 9 hours. After 3 months I could not stand SC2 any more. I took a long break and haven't gone back to casting yet, although I would really love to.
What I'm looking for: Some tournaments or something like it, every week, that last for like 4 hours max.
League : Plat, used to be almost masters when i played/casted, Terran/Random
Age : 26
Experience : Co pro casts with huk, qxc, demuslim, including Day9 countdown party. steelseries sponsored America vs Europe showmatch. CSL Regina. sc2casts.com koth. glhf.it invitational. gosuguide showmatches. numerous other beta and post release events.
Comments : i love casting. i miss it so much. it was a tough decision to give it up but some family/personal stuff prevented me from continuing when i was big into the scene. i am so passionate about starcraft and always have been.
What i'm looking for : to casually get back into the scene and maybe help out some aspiring commentators.
Can i stream? : Yes, but ive always preferred recording.
Comments on my casting: I have a great knowledge of the game due to my playing experience. My casts tend to be of my own ladder games, where I break down my thought process in game and showcase effective builds on ladder.
My casting style varies somewhat. I can easily switch into a hardset analytical mode of casting, and often do at key points in the game. Yet I also like to keep my games exciting, which means pumping up the action I see on screen. This leads to a hybrid of casting that my loyal subscribes quite enjoy.
I also do "Live" games where I cast while I play, and many of my subscirbers have found these very helpful.
Unfortunately, I am unable to stream due to my lack-luster internet speed.
What I am looking for: Other like-minded well-established commentators PM me about Co-casting with them!
Casting experience: now 6 months of just casting my own games 5 days a week, just moved up to a 6th where I Cast a friend'S games.
Comments about myself as a caster: I played SC1, then fell Into theatre/music/improv for about 13 years, and have now come back to try my hand at gaming. After becoming a Fan of so many gamers online, I thought I should pick up SC2 and see if I could be any good at it. I've found a lot of other bronze/silver casters and we've all sort of clung on to each other for some advice, some good times and a lot of laughs. It's not all about pro, sometimes it's about the game.
What I'M looking for: Advice & fun. Nothing else.
Can I stream: I tried, but then fell behind the tech. May try again.
Casting experience: I have run the youtube channel NuubCast for nearly two years, so while I have a lot of experience, most of it is casting solo for non-pro players. You may also have seen vods of me casting with my 5 year old daughter StarGirl. I have done some live casting, most of it for online KOTHs, again at lower league levels.
Comments about myself as a caster: I consider myself to be a play by play caster in the vein of TB and Kevin Knocke. I watch a lot of streams and listen to a lot of other casters, so while I do not consider myself ignorant in game knowledge, because of my skill level I would not consider analysis a strength and would likely shine brightest paired with a good analyst.
I have a background in theater and performance, which is helpful.
What I'm looking for: A good analyst looking for a play by play partner to work on in game transitions, when which person should take over and just general experience casting with another person.
Can I stream: I can stream at at least 720p but have never tried it with skype, only ventrilo.
1v1 League and race: Platinum Terran (alright Gold this season had a string of losses playing a bunch of Plats though ^^)
Age: 23
Casting experience: Have been casting SC2 for a month or so on and off now. Called games for a summer college baseball league. I went to school for broadcast journalism and thought about trying to break into sports commentating, but found I like news just as much and am a solid producer.
Comments about myself as a caster: I'm a bit inexperienced and still learning how to cast StarCraft 2 (each sport/game has its own flow and what not to adjust to beyond knowledge). I'm more of a play-by-play style but like to throw in analysis I think I see. Can be pretty passionate at times but also a little slow on the call in a big battle but am getting better. Also I prefer to cast with the production tab off. I like keeping the audience guessing, having to find what the tech path is, watching the mini-map. It's just my preference to be like "he's not streaming more bio in anymore, what's he doing *sees fusion core and 4 starports pumping out battlecruisers* OHHH He's going Battlecruisers!!" I don't know again just my preference.
What I'm looking for: Experience mostly and someone to cast with maybe and have fun... either analytical or play-by-play I can work with both. Right now this is for fun and my work schedule is nights and weekends right now.
Can I stream: Yes, although I experienced a bit of lag when I would stream playing the games so no clue how well my cpu would handle live games at the moment.
Links to examples of your casting (optional): one of my favorite games I've casted. Yes I can keep any fanboyism in check during a cast if necessary.
Casting experience: I have been casting since December. I am doing the Gold and Below tournament and I will be casting the STL.
Comments about myself as a caster: I think that I am very good at being analytical I watch a lot of Starcraft and so I know many builds and strats and players. One flaw is the use of the word 'uh' and the repeating of many words and phrases.
What I'm looking for: I am looking to continue casting and have people enjoying it!
Casting experience: I've been casting since November 2010, I started out mainly with amateur events. I spent the rest of 2010 and the start of 2011 casting mainly for YouTube. In spring 2011 I founded the Starcraft II clan, the League of Extraordinary Gamers (LXG). During the summer I spent the time continuing to improving my casting with amateur open tournaments and team leagues.
In November I was able to start casting for the Eternal Plague's (Team Epidemic) Open tournament. I also hosted a week of show matches in honor of my 1 year anniversary of casting. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=280311 The event featured 10 top North American players such as Liquid Sheth, Quantic Illusion, Complexity qxc, It's GoSu Pokebunny. In the fall and winter of 2011 I also was able to cast events such as the Team Liquid Opens.
2012 I've been doing everything I can to continue improving my casting by commentating more events. In January I was able to commentate the DC LAN. In March I was able to commentate some more up and coming players in the Sponsor me tournament hosted by playhem. Currently I'm commentating and Co-casting 3 events; The Beyond Gaming WCS qualifier events, the ESEA for the PMS|H2O pro team, and the STL premiere league.
Comments about myself as a caster: My knowledge of Starcraft II far exceeds my ability to to play but that does help my casting quite a bit. My style has a strong analytical focus, I do my best to discuss strategy and standard build orders while casting. I also have learned all the names of units/upgrades but do a nice mix of "newb talk" for example I would say the zerg player is getting Glial Reconstitution which is roach speed.
Because I manage a Starcraft II clan as well as try to become a top tier commentator most of my time is spent watching and commentating not playing. I'm quite knowledgeable about the meta game and what builds are more common on what maps. I would say my biggest weakness right now would be saying um or using the same phrase over and over through out a cast. Having a co-caster has helped with that but I defiantly want to help improve my solo casting as well.
What I'm looking for: I'm looking to be able to show my skill and knowledge for many tournaments and hopefully major ones in the future. My experience in open tournaments and team leagues is perfect for major open brackets such as MLG and IPL in the fact that i'm more familiar with up and coming players compared to most people. I'd love to co-cast with anyone for any event so feel free to contact me if you are interested.
The thing i'm looking for the most is feedback and constructive criticism. I know there are flaws in my casting and having other people review it would really be beneficial.
Links to examples of your casting: My most recent solo cast from IPL Open bracket, LiquidTaeja(T) vs coLKiller(Z) my most recent co-casting from the Beyond Gaming WCS qualifier Area51Sasquatch(Z) vs ALTWebz(Z) http://www.twitch.tv/beyondgaming/b/317064937
1v1 League and Race: Bronze Protoss (I think I know the game way better than I play it)
Age: 33
Casting Experience: Just started. I think maybe only have a total of 14 games casted under my belt.
Comments about myself as a caster: I am a little bit more laid back of a caster, and naturally have a lot of learning to do. That said, I have a speaking background and that has helped a lot. I know a lot about the games, been playing religiously since the earliest RTS games came out, but I am not sure if I will ever be REALLY good at them.
What I'm looking for: To keep casting and just focus on what I enjoy. I am not looking for anything other than that really. If I get viewers, cool, if not at least I am having fun. I would love to do some tourneys, but I haven't even started to look into it.
Can I stream: Yup! I sometimes stream on twitch.tv.
Casting experience: I am the official caster the UK team GG. I cast for ESL including the ESL UK open and the Blizzard WCS UK qualifiers, and I am the official cast for the new show the fast expand.
Comments about myself as a caster: I'm a little insane but the game really excites me to watch and that shows in my casts in a good way.
What I'm looking for: Casting ofc, I leap at every opportunity to cast and put my all in every time
Can I stream: Nope I live in the country with a low up speed but I'm OK with it cause it means I get to work with other great casters a lot more rather than being put in stuff on my own which I'm OK with but is nowhere near as fun.
Casting experience: I've only casted two online tournaments and a total of around 40 games, but I've covered the likes of TSLPolt, MouzMorroW, IMFenix, TSLInori, GoldenLight and EmpireVINES.
Comments about myself as a caster: I have a strong public speaking background and I really enjoy analyzing why and how players make decisions in game. I'm funny, positive, and inspired by Starcraft. I can also obs and cast at the same time.
What I'm looking for: A weekly/monthly platform -- I'm open to any and all opportunities available, though!
Can I stream: Yes, I have an XSplit Premium License.
Links to examples of your casting (optional): [First voice in the video]
How to get in touch with me: PM me on Team Liquid: MFDoom OR tweet @DOOMSC2
Casting experience: Casted at several big local tournaments in Perth.
Comments about myself as a caster: I'd say my style of casting is very smooth and casual but analytical as well as colourful as well. If I had to liken myself to an existing well known caster, well, think of a mini-Apollo with an Australian accent (surely that's a plus :D)
What I'm looking for: A bit more exposure outside of my local scene, definitely looking to be mostly a co-caster but can main cast vods if necessary
Can I stream: I can, however the internet in Australia is definitely sub-par, so the stream quality is generally 480p
Links to examples of your casting (optional): Will edit this post later with some examples.
Other Info: I only have an account on the EU server. / I own a professional studio microphone.
Age: 18
Casting experience: Unfortunately, I don't have the most impressive casting history. I used to livestream myself casting counter-strike source matches where I'd have an average of around 70-100 viewers, since then I've been reading starcraft extensively and furthering my game knowledge before I casted anything.
Comments about myself as a caster: I'm from London, but I don't have the TotalBiscuit accent or any noticeable/distracting accent at all. I don't doubt my casting ability and I'm sure that my only downfall is my lack of experience with casting (hence my post in this thread). I'm naturally quite analytical and intrinsical so I can notice things and make comments on things that others may not. I find casting really fun as I find talking really fun, and I have passion for the game altogether. I'm in Platinum only because I haven't been able to play many games due to time commitments.
What I'm looking for: I feel that I could cast at a professional level after building up a repertoire, I'm looking for a good co-caster but I'm flexible, I would enjoy working with many other people. I don't have delusions of making a living out of it or even making money from it at all, I would just like to share my casting with the public, since I know how annoying it is to watch bad and inexperienced players casting.
Can I stream: My PC is 100% capable of it, but my network speed isn't. I'd only be able to stream in 480p and a lowish bitrate of around 580kbps.

How to get in touch with me: Skype - azurebluesc2, I'm also on steam and msn most of the time.

I agree with everything that has been said and try to further myself as a caster every single day, I have weaknesses and areas that I know I am not as good as I could be and its great to see people working as hard.
Topics like this are needed and maybe in the future, I could be working with some-one right here!

One thing a lot of newer casters don't realize is just how much of the job becomes being involved with the production side of things as much as it is casting/studying the game. I'd encourage you guys to look at video editing, graphic design, etc together as well. Knowing a bit of that side of things will make you a lot more valuable to an organisation when the time comes to get into the professional part of casting. Hardly any full-time casters work only with the game all day. As an example, I was spending a lot of my time at the IGN office working on graphics for Tournament of Champions right before IPL4. Most organisations aren't large enough to have their casters -only- study/play/cast all day and will need you to pitch in with some other duties so be prepared!
At any rate, good luck! I'm always happy to answer PMs with questions about the industry if people have them so feel free!

Great post.

Starcraft announcer second. During the course of my 19 year broadcast career, I've had the chance to interview Michael Jordan, Ken Griffey Jr., Jerry Rice, Wayne Gretzky among other athletes mostly in the '90's for Rogers Sportsnet in Vancouver. I continue to do sportscasting in Korea as well as a little esports on the side. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to help. Also if people want to practice their announcing for fun one day, maybe we could set up a fun day for those in Korea. Starcraft is still in its infant stages from a broadcasting standpoint and I'd like to see it evolve into something greater. For that, proper knowledge of the industry is essential as Doa pointed out. It's not just about knowing the game. Please don't ask me any personal questions about Tasteless or Wolf in respect to them.
I've left my own info here, and edited it into the index in the OP: + Show Spoiler +
Nickname: Lumi
People have been submitting replays to me since I first started that way.
i think people who wish to commentate should have a number of videos of them casting. then having us or the casters finding casters to go threw and be like yeah okay this guy is good. i dont know thats my opinion tho 1v1 league and race shouldnt really matter i just feel like thats gunna promote people to lie because lets be honest who would want a bronze player commentating? (but lets say he was really good) and he posted videos without the knowledge of his league. im sure a lot more people would look into it
Casting experience: About 5 months, I think.

I'd wanna know the league of who I'm casting with. If you're not at the very least in Platinum and fancy yourself as an analytical caster, you just aren't going to do a good job. You either don't play the game enough (and like it or not, play experience is important as a caster) or don't know as much as you think you do. If you're a play-by-play guy, your league doesn't matter.
Casting experience: Over a year of casting for eXe's various tournaments on at least a weekly basis, including casting with Martijn on GLHF.tv for the first EU/NA eXe Opens. I also have experience casting various other events either on my own or with a co-caster. I casted one of the WCS UK Qualifiers for ESL and am also on Staff as a caster at SCVRush.com.

@JethroTV

The point is, some of us don't have that because we haven't streamed on our own computers, instead commentating with others on their streams, etc. So some of us are looking to find that exposure.
Here is a link to a hype video I made for my Battle of the Legends tournament for SC1.] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjyhD0PDbis
This will change within a week or so though when i get my new deskop.

I would love to post my info here, but I have a very different style of casting so I'll think about it (less analysis, more play-by-play). It's generally the type that most people "hate" on SC2 forums.

No way man, most of the people posting so far are self-described analytical types.. I'm actually more int erested in play by play people to cast with atm than another analytical caster
play by play casters are just as important as analytical casters. This doesn't excuse a lack of knowledge or a lack of ambition to study the game, but all casts need both to be the best of the best.
Hey guys, great thread! I wish you the best on your improvements and trying to get noticed as casters. I understand all the discussions recently about casters at the high end not working hard enough and almost don't deserve to stay where they are, so I hope you can work harder and get noticed!
I agree with everything that has been said and try to further myself as a caster every single day, I have weaknesses and areas that I know I am not as good as I could be and its great to see people working as hard.
Topics like this are needed and maybe in the future, I could be working with some-one right here!
This is a good idea. Back in the Broodwar days when you had people like the SC2GG people casting (Moletrap, Klazart, Diggity, Rise, Cholera etc), they all had their own individual channels, but they also often did dual or even triple casts of games with various pairings. It means that the casters can get experience of working with people (so as to not talk over them etc) as well as potentially increase the quality of the casting.
One problem with SC2 casting from replays is syncing, but you can always use things like Replay Sync (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=232381) assuming it still works. I think the ESV guys use this on the weeklies, or something else which does the same job.
This thread is a fantastic idea! We've got practice partner thread for players, so why not aspiring casters?
On May 06 2012 23:10 smwatkin wrote: play by play casters are just as important as analytical casters. This doesn't excuse a lack of knowledge or a lack of ambition to study the game, but all casts need both to be the best of the best.
I mean here's a sample of what happens when I cast:
Note that I did casts for OSL Preliminaries for this season while also doing some SC2 casts, then decided to learn more about SC2 with the upcoming transition.
Great idea and thread for the new people looking for ways to get noticed, and work with others in the scene. I know when I had started out doing some SC2 stuff something like this could have been invaluable rather then making all the networking I have now the hard way.
Yes I can keep any fanboyism in check during a cast if necessary. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6lFSLDZU68
First off thank you to Lumi for setting up the awesome thread! :D
Nickname: NanMan
1v1 League and race: Diamond level Protoss player
Age: 23
Excellent thread. I'm not a caster but I'm looking, well rather hoping, someone will cast the upcoming Proleague. Thinking it'd be a cool chance for casters with different backgrounds (BW><SC2) to get together and hopefully bring the viewers a cool experience?
Casting experience: I've only casted three online tournaments and a total of around 50 games, but I've covered a variety of KOR/EU pros from the likes of TSLPolt, MouzMorroW, IMFenix, TSLInori, GoldenLight, ESCGoody, MillTarson, and EmpireVINES.
Comments about myself as a caster: I have a strong public speaking background and I really enjoy analyzing why and how players make decisions in game. I'm funny, positive, and inspired by Starcraft. My observer skills are top notch at all points in the game and I can obs and cast at the same time.
What I'm looking for: A weekly/monthly platform -- I'm open to any and all opportunities available!
Can I stream: Yes, 720p+, I have an XSplit Premium License.

Great idea. This is Jason Lee. I've had a chance to work with Tasteless for many of years. I guess you could say I brought him out to Korea to work for Arirang TV before he started working for the GSL about 5 years ago. I've also had the opportunity to work with Wolf when he first came to Korea. And of course my infamous Starcraft II debut with Idra after seeing the game twice. I'm a broadcaster first.
Are you a caster and want to partake in weekly events? Well Blitz gaming is now looking for individuals who can cast or play with us. We run in house tournaments monthly and we usually have 1 to 2 clan wars per week. (depends on time zone of each member) If you feel that you can help us out and want to participate in bZg events. Please contact one of our MGMT staff. All our links are presented down below. Thank you for your time
.
Server: NA Team Name: Blitz Gaming (bZg) Leader/Managers: Zhurai, Quackers, ZeroRDS (in game) Clan Channel: Blitz Gaming General Team League Level: Diamond/Master/GM Requirements: Must be active, must have skype, must be willing to help others and do your part in the clan. Show up for practice and CW events. Check out the clan site and make an acct. Also like our FB page so you get weekly updates to bZg events.
Links to examples of your casting (optional):
How to get in touch with me: Skype - azurebluesc2, I'm also on steam and msn most of the time.
Casting experience: During the beta and release I was casting extensively, almost every day.
My focus was on the SEA scene, and specifically casting tournaments and showmatches of top SEA pros vs the world's best.
Comments about myself as a caster: I'm actually not actively casting again yet. After my absence I feel I need to play extensively and get back into the higher leagues to have the game knowledge I need to cast effectively again. I'm more of a play-by-play caster, thought I can get into the analytical side of things.
What I'm looking for: Someone to co-cast with to really get back into the swing of it and develop a rapport. Preferrably the SEA scene, as that's what I tend to focus on, but I don't mind covering international as well.
Can I stream: Yep! Although given the quality of broadband in Australia it's only in 480p. www.twitch.tv/sephyresc
Great idea! I'm not going to put my name down as a caster, since I'm doing too many other things right now, but I wish all the would-be and new casters the best of luck! Try to improve your knowledge of history and tactics of the game, because that gives you stuff to talk about if you don't know what's going on!
Casting experience: None but used to I do stand-up comedy at the IMPROVs near los angeles
Comments about myself as a caster: I'd like to think that I'm calm and articulate when analyzing plays but can crescendo my level of excitement when shit gets real.
What I'm looking for: I'd like to develop a good dynamic with another caster; one whom I can feed off of. Only casting will I be able to know who that is.
Can I stream: Not now since I'm out of state for my summer job :/
Me and my community are having a 1v1 tourny ro16 on sunday and we are looking for someone to cast and stream it, most of the players know each other and it will be fun for ourselves if we can get it casted and also vods.
Skill is bronze to play (no ones is really below silver though tbf)
if you are interested please contact me on quakenet @ #buzz or just pm me here <3

Awesome thread! I was focusing on school when the thread came out or I would have listed info much sooner! I think there are a few things this thread should list... What server are you available on as well as are you more an analyst or play-by-play...
Casting experience: I started observing/casting an EU masters+ practice channel and done a bit of solo casting of smaller weekly/daily EU tournaments. Most of my casting was done for dignitas.toh1o who got me access to cast some IEM Kiev qualifiers as well as the LDLC Winter Trophy. I did some casting for The Gathering (qualifiers IIRC). Recently, I cast the Nvidia SC2 HotS cup on TakeTV.
Comments about myself as a caster: I'm mostly a play-by-play caster and observer. I'm working on improving my game knowledge and bringing a little more emotion into my casts. I don't have the best schedule. I can stream 720p and have accounts on both NA and EU.
What I'm looking for: I'm looking for anyone needing a native English speaker (American accent).
I want to be able to add a little more English casting to the EU "daily" scene.
I'd also like to be able to do some of the EU tournaments that are setup by the non-English communities.
I'd also be very interested teaming up with someone who has excellent game knowledge or another caster that would like a strong English speaker as a partner.
Can I stream: Yes, 720p.
Links to examples of your casting (optional): I have a few VODs left http://www.twitch.tv/y0su/ (However, most of my work is on the channels linked above.)
How to get in touch with me: PM on TL, email: y0susc2@yahoo.com or SKYPE: josuclaa
Comments about myself as a caster: I bring a new flavor to casting as a Black SC2 gamer. I am able to provide accurate feedback in most matchups and have the potential to grow.
What I'm looking for: An opportunity to cast pro games.
Can I stream: Kind of. My stream is: twitch.tv/bcfarrar
I am kind of blown away I haven't posted here yet. I thought I had posted here months ago. Anyways, this is for anyone interested in doing co-commentary on a semi-regular basis!
Nickname: feardragon
1v1 League and race: Diamond Protoss
Age: 22
Casting experience: I've been casting for a little over a year now. My casting has been split up between Collegiate Starleague live casts, a personal event I run called Balance Battles, a few livecasted showmatches as well as releasing nearly daily content on my youtube channel that varies between user submitted games and pro games.
Comments about myself as a caster: I'm an aspiring caster that's currently in college and casts for the Purdue University collegiate team. I'm constantly looking to further myself as a caster, both in terms of casting and production. I have a relatively small following(a handful of maybe 10 people I don't know) that seem to be watching my videos consistently! I've done co-casting with someone else at Purdue for CSL casts so I have a bit of experience with it, but I'm really looking to improve my co-casting skills. In terms of where I fall on the range of analytical to shoutcaster, I find myself leaning toward shoutcaster, but am constantly looking to improve my knowledge.
What I'm looking for: I'm looking for someone that would be interested in doing co-casting commentary together on a somewhat consistent basis. The main purpose for this would be for youtube casts, though there would definitely be times where I would love to commentate with another during an event. Of course, there's the added benefit of networking and helping each other out with casts and giving each other feedback on ideas and such.
Can I stream: Yes! I have and I'm going to continue doing it again on a weekly basis for my event Balance Battles.
How to get in touch with me: You can contact me from a few different places: Skype: feardragon64 msn: feardragon64@hotmail.com e-mail: feardragon64@gmail.com
Casting experience: Around a year of youtube commentating, along with live tournament commentaries for the Battle.Net Forum Cup Diamond and Up, and the SCL Championship League Season 1
Comments about myself as a caster: I am both persistant and punctual, releasing new videos and commentaries 3 times a week (monday, wednesday, and saturday)
What I'm looking for: I am looking for any opprotunity to cast more, and with more people.
Can I stream: Yes

The clan Unleashed was founded in December 2011. Currently we have a Starcraft 2 team (2 Squads) with a total of 18 active players. There we are also represented in the ESL and the SC2CL.
We need a Caster who can stream our weekly Clanwars.
Hey TL! I hope this bump is appropriate, I apologize if it isn't.
Deimos Esports is a professional North American team that is currently looking for a dedicated caster (or casters), who is willing to cast solo or with another person anywhere from 1-3 times per week. This could be a good opportunity for casters looking for a decent audience to get their name out there and to cast pro and semi-pro level clan-wars, as well as other types of events.
We are looking for high energy and passionate people from North America with past casting experience who want to get exposed to a larger audience. A good microphone and the ability to stream with a high quality is required. A high level understanding of the game is also important so higher level players are preferred. The amount you want to cast and when will be flexible, but we do hope for some amount of dedication.
What information we would like to know:
-a little bit about yourself (where you are from, age, ect) -casting experience with a link to your channel or vods -your availability and how much you'd like to cast -sc2 league -any other relevant information
If you are interesting in joining the Deimos team, or have any questions, please don't hesitate to send me a PM on TL or through email at sclandinin@gmail.com.
