Good luck!

Excuse me for my ignorance, but do any of the female members of the pro teams actually go up against the males in tournaments or do they only play in female only tournaments? While I have heard of several pick ups, I haven't heard of any results so far.

Very cool, can't wait for her to get some serious training done to play in GSTL

When I was told I could become a part of StarTale, it was the happiest day of my life, I still can’t believe it! I will do my best every day, in every game. This is my dream come true.”

I'll just have to agree with whoever she talked to. I mean, I understand wanting to follow your dreams... but you're quitting a real job for something that will leave you without a salary essentially and a small place to live shared with a dozen other players (assuming she lives in the team house... otherwise that's even worse because the money for living space would then come out of her pockets) all the while she's a player I had never heard of so she never did anything worthwhile in competitions so far.

I know this applies to a ton of other players (I really don't understand how anyone besides the top top top players decide to keep being a progamer when it really hurts their future/education/finances) but in this case she has the added "had a good job" thing going on...

Good luck to her, but not a wise decision IMO.

you sir are what is wrong with the world. too many people doing what society makes them or thinks they should do. everyone should be doing what they want as long as they dont conflict with the rights of others. everyone would be happier the world would be happier. if i wasnt getting paid for something i liked to do i dunno how i would live with myself

edit: would the sc2 scene be this big if people chose not to follow their dreams? doubtful

I said it wasn't smart. That's true even if you want to believe in dreams. She had her other job for a while... I'm sure she would've quit it a long time ago if she didn't enjoy it somewhat.

And yes, the SC2 scene would be non-existent. I'm aware. It doesn't change the fact that it's a poor choice for a life path for 95%+ of people that choose to do it.

*EDIT : And I dropped pharmacy school after 3 years (large salary) to go back to biochemistry research (decent salary) so I know what it is to go and do something you want. But I wouldn't have went back if I made 5-10k a year in research.

if they are happy trying to be a pro gamer even if they are in dire poverty it is hardly a poor life decision. who are you to tell them not to go for it? happier people are better people. i live quite comfortably on about 12k a year

Where do you live "quite comfortably" on $12,000 a year?

cleveland ohio. UNDERRATED CITY! COME JOIN US!

Do you not have rent to pay for or something? 12k/yr in a developed city is well below the poverty line. I mean, minimum wage is ~18k/yr if you work full time. It just doesn't add up. You're either leaving out part of the story(you live quite comfortably on 12k/yr while living with your parents in high school), or you are just in a vast minority as far as your standard of 'quite comfortably.'

Well, Aphrodite is probably the only female progamer that is able to take on co-ed competitions as of now. She trashed Destiny fairly convincingly, defeats NA GMs more than she loses, and she does put up a decent showing on the KR ladder. I'm sure she attempts to qualify for code A, but there's no way Startale can send just a "quite good" player like Aphrodite to MLG or other foreign events. If they can't send Squirtle/Rainbow, they definitely can't send Aphrodite.

Korean tournaments are.....kind of hard. It's no surprise you haven't heard of results recently. We haven't heard anything out of Fruitdealer, and IdrA/HuK got booted out of code A with little fanfare. I suppose you just have to consider how good these pros have to be to post results other than 0-2.

They can sign a bum off the street without giving me an explanation true -- but that does mean their decision is justified?

What has that girl on SlayerS done seen being signed? Zero results, zero news, zero anything.. signing females is pointless.

When LA Galaxy signed David Beckham he was most definitely past his prime and also they payed an absolutely RIDICULOUS transfer fee and wage.

So why did they sign him when they could of signed so many better players who wouldn't of costed as much?

because he's David fucking Beckham

same principle applies here as she is eFamous in china.

That is not comparable. David Beckham may not have been the greatest soccer player in the world at that time, but he was still able to compete at the level he was signing too. He was playing in the MLS and contributing to the team. If any of these female SC2 players were able to play in GSL Code A or B or GSTL and not get rocked then I wouldn't have any problem what so ever. My problem is that they get a contract because of their SEX not because of their SKILL.

Sorry but nobody gives a shit about the MLS except Mexicans lol. Beckham is just a fancy deal to get more attention into soccer for the US viewers and LA Galaxy hope they could draw more and more ads contract.

She's 8th ranked masters on the Korean ladder and she's only been playing the game for like 6-8 months, her first RTS. I think she got to the third round in Code A in her first attempt too. Also, she wins all the female tournaments she goes too, so I'd say she's well worth the investment for Startale and not just for her looks. The new addition? No clue.

Aphrodite is pretty strong. StarTale has used her in team leagues and she's won. I really like StarTale's attitude towards females. I really don't feel like they just add any girl just for show. They actually groomed Aphrodite. She can perform well and I can't wait to see her hit up foreign tournaments.
