Koreans love him for his crazy ceremonies. He's won or been in the running for the "Ceremony King" award at every Group Selection. Just because foreigners don't like him doesn't mean he isn't popular.

He was playing the lead character (Dae Gil) from the block buster KBS Korean drama Chuno. The finale of the drama was on the same day as the Hana Daetoo MSL Group Selection so he chose the Chuno ceremony. Sea helped him with the ceremony by pretending to play dead as Hyun slashed his "sword" at the players. Sea also helped Hyun write his speech for the ceremony. After the ceremony Hyun earned two of his present nicknames, "Seok Gil" and Ko Chuno. He also received the MVP award at the Group Selection. Hyun is quite popular in Korea. Because of his ceremonies and his generally entertaining playing style.
