I apologise but after proving that it was legal for Leenock to be in the event, the hotel itself decided they dont want to risk having Leenock there.
Although not illegal, they are afraid he would be caught touching (as in physically touching) the poker machines or tables, which is a crime in NJ.
After fighting as much as possible, the hotels rule is final.
This has nothing to do with underage people being allowed in the hotels etc, it is just that you actually have to pass through the gaming hall to get to the venue. Which is the actual issue at hand that there is 'risk'.
In return, I will send leenock to Providence MLG.
We are now deciding which other player we will send, whether it be Inori, Choya or SiriuS.
I will announce later today whom we come to a conclusion about.
Sorry to disappoint leenocks fans, but I will make sure he gets to the USA asap!
Update #2: Inori will be attending in place of Leenock.
FXOpen e-Sports and Razer are excited to announce that Woo "FXOInori" Min Gyu and Lee "FXOLucky" In Soo will be playing at the IGN Proleague Season 3 finals.
When given the opportunity to travel to an international event this month, both FXOLeenock and FXOLucky asked to be sent to IPL3, and FXO and Razer have happily assisted them in doing so.
Lucky is one of the lesser known players, but has a wealth of results and experience under his belt. Having defeated the likes of Jinro, Bomber and Naniwa, he has proven he can play with the best and also managed a top 8 finish in the current GSL Code A season.
"Hello! This is my first foreign tournament, I'll be representing FXO, i'll try my best and work hard for our other members who could not participate, and special thanks to Razer for letting this happen!"

-totally forgot leenock was part of fxo- hooray for leenock. before his name got big i was always rootin for him, just wish he was more consistent. DO IT YOUNG ONE
Hell yeah Leenock. I don't know a ton about Lucky, but Leenock has been really good/entertaining since the open seasons of GSL. It'll be nice to see how he does in a foreign event.
This is for the open portion of the tournament, right?
Wow, as if I needed yet another reason to watch IPL3. I am very excited for this and I really hope some of Leenock's games get streamed, thank you FXO and Razer!
wow, very nice! now I am looking forward to pool play and championship bracket! I hope both guys can make it through and won't need to fight each other for a spot in the championship bracket!
On September 29 2011 15:19 Nouar wrote: I thought the age limit was 18yo ? How are you planning to get Leenock in ?
If you advise in advance, exceptions can be made.
Fxo boss pulling strings behind the scenes like a boss. I bet pokebunny wished he had his backing too, since he couldn't play due to age limit.
I have to trying to keep pulling them now.. Seems theres a slight problem This is why announcements to the community can backfire.
Huh? I read on the original IPL post that players can be any age. Pokebunny was qqing about it until he was told about the player exception.
This is on the IPL thread
Since we have to specially register every participant under 21 with Caesars, we have to submit their paperwork some time before the event to ensure that they will not be denied access during the event. If you are 18, 19, or 20, you must purchase your player pass before midnight on Saturday, October 1st.
Unless i'm wrong (Which is could be:p) exceptions can be made for players under 21, but above 18. Thats pulling strings already. Leenock is younger than 18 though right? So even more strings need to be pulled?
Boss's team looking bright. They're doing well in Code A, and now they're heading over to IPL3. I have no idea how Leenock well fare against the likes of MMA/Ryung though, good luck to him
Oh yeah Leenock! I hope FXOboss can get things sorted out cuz it would be a damn shame if MMA got a free pass to $30,000 without any top tier opposition.
I'm pretty sure we'll see Leenock advance to the championship brackets, folks. He picked a good first foreign tournament to join, IPL is going to be sick!
Leenock fighting !! Any chance that any of the US based fxo players like qxc are going? I want to see how they have developed since MLG where only qxc and moonan were sent.
I've been a fan of Leenock ever since that game vs Clide on Sharkuras during the open seasons. I always felt like he would be one of the great zergs one day. Really excited to see him going to some foreign tourneys. Hopefully he'll end up at MLG eventually. Lucky is pretty solid as well.
Leenock! =D I can't not see a sick future ahead for this guy the more and more we see him play! =D
Also Lucky made a good first time Code A run (as far as I know). Be interesting to see him at a global event, Noblesse made a splash for doing a similar thing out of nowhere.

I don't really see the need for a team website personally, it's not like most teams which are teams with sponsors, FXO is named after their primary sponsor and their only other is Razer. I suppose it'd look neat, but it's definitely not as necessary as the likes of EG with a million sponsors. They have an eSports forum on the FXOpen website I believe as well.

We have a website. I just cannot find time to finish everything at once unfortunately (financial crisis going on at the moment, and unfortunately e-sports isnt my only job )
We have our events, and productions and more productions coming, i think thats more fun/important than a website not many people would look at for now.

Agreed. I don't know much about money, but the AUD is worth less than the USD for the first time in ages, so something's gotta be wrong :-/
leenock is a sick nerd baller zerg who can beat anyone and has shown the sickest zerg play since the open seasons of the gsl open seasons. i hope he does well

They won't announce it otherwise
Then he said that there where problems and that sometimes announcing something like this to the community can backfire. I think that was on page 2 or three.
Seems like it might be pretty hard if they are already making exceptions for 18-21

Or maybe a visa issue?
Im sure they would have at least got that sorted out before making an announcment.
I am sure both Leenock and Lucky will do really well if they don't get too nervous! Hard to pick two more deserving players, though it's a shame we won't see some of the great Protoss like choya, Weekend, Inori and Oz :3
Seems strange that FXO would be able to get Leenock in when Xeris was complaining to IPL about Rain not being able to compete earlier. Maybe something changed?

Just say leenock is 18 in korean age! I'm sure that will work!
This will be a great experience for Leenock and Lucky. It's good to gain some booth-time in an environment that isn't the GSL. Win or lose, I predict that this experience will give them a more mature outlook on playing on the big stage once they goes back to Korea from IPL, and I fully anticipate their results improving post-foreign tournament regardless of their results. FXO FIGHTING!
I apologise but after proving that it was legal for Leenock to be in the event, the hotel itself decided they dont want to risk having Leenock there.

Ouch. NJ law bites. Can't even touch the machines?
FXO boss should have just hired hotel security to blindfold leenock and escort him personally through the gaming lobby to make sure his hands don't touch any tables.

You'd think there'd be like a back door or something, or maybe an emergency exit so that you don't have to pass through the casino to get to the hall >.>
Too bad, but understandable -- legal, but too risky from the hotel's point of view. Is Leenock to MLG Orlando confirmed, or is he part of the "everyone is busy with WCG and GSL" thing? At any rate, we really appreciate you working hard to get so many great players to overseas events, it's a great opportunity for both them and us :-)

Epic sadness on the update, you should have mockingly offered to tie him up and carry him through the the gaming hall. Perhaps with him being the leenocktopus they worried he'd touch things anyways. I'm glad you found 3 players to fight for his vacated spot though, interhouse competition is always amusing.
I'd always thought players could be any age unlike spectators, guess this explains why SlayerS never signed up Coca for any of the online qualifiers. Why must so many of my fave players be so young? I seriously hope non age restricted venues is a top priority for next time, there's more than a few great players out there who're getting left out of a great opportunity.

I'm confused. Why is this not an underage issue and what makes it specific to Leenock? The casino is afraid that an underage person will touch a slot machine so they don't allow him get to the venue to play because it goes through the gaming area with slot machines. Minimum age for slots in NJ is 21. Okay. So doesn't this then apply to everyone under 21? Isn't stephano 19? Why wouldn't this affect stephano and maybe others under 21 including ppl in the open bracket?
no one under 21 is allowed in most casinos, leenock isnt even 18 and you guys are really suprised/raging about this? Get your heads on straight, we have laws in this country.

Legally your an adult at 18. (Which is there cut-off line)
Just takeing a shot in the dark here but the Casino more than likely trust an adult that who would be considered a teenager (Leenock)

It's unfortunately a very real thing that involves a heavy penalty from the gaming commission and goes on the hotel's track record.
Next IPL is going to be at a non-age restricted place I assume?
While I cannot guarantee that, that is one of our goals, yes.
Well, wait a second. One of the reasons I bought a 100 dollar ticket to IPL was precisely because it is age restricted. Drinks in the venue, gambling on site, and a more likeminded crowd are some of the advantages for me. I understand not wanting restrictions on the players, but keep in mind the advantages of having ipl at an adult venue.
I agree that age restrictions are often nice but, for most or at least big parts of the world you only have to be 16 or 18 to be allowed to Drink/Gambling. 21 feels therefore pretty strange .
Players not allowing to go there because they could "touch" a Pokertable is ridiculous no matter how you look at it.
Btw: Why is this a problem for Lennock/Koreans but not for Stephano??? (oh, 18is fine but 16 not?)
Just retarted. Really bad, why make these rules? have someone escort him, or have him enter the backdoor, just anything! dont deny him entry, he must be so sad

Yeah, it really bites. I'm 20 years old, and not turning 21 until December. So close, yet so far away. I really would've loved to attend- weather it would've been playing and getting destroyed, or just spectating an awesome event.
I suppose I'll be at home watching the stream and hoping that you guys decide to have IPL4 in the same venue (or maybe somewhere else in the NJ/PA area that even underage players/fans could attend?) so that I can attend the next event.

Again. You can compete if over 18 and under 21. If you lose, you can spectate the event despite being under 21. You CAN attend.
While I agree that it sucks he cannot attend, IPL made it very clear that spectators must be 21, and contestants must be 18 or older. They knew very well the rules going into the venue of choice, blaming "stupid American laws" is laughable.

They get fined up the ass if a minor gets near enough to touch slots/tables. There are very strict laws related to casinos and gambling (as there should be).

You can't but you can fault the people at IPL for deciding to run a event for a game that some of the top players are under 18 in a place that wouldnt allow those players to enter. Its not the casino's fault its all IPL hopefully IPL 4 if its live has more forsight in where they decide to run it.
I really can't believe all the USA hate in this thread. Yes, it's unfortunate that Leenock cannot attend, but when you look at it, he's really a unique scenario, along with Pokebunny. The MAJORITY of Professional Gamers are over the age of 18.
Yes, it's understandable that people are frustrated that they cannot attend if under the age of 21 (or 18 if you got hired by IPL, or are a 'competitor'), but it's not fair to take it out on a whole nation (the same nation that brings you multiple fan-favorite pro's, MLG, NASL, etc.). I think it was very professional of the casinos to work around the 21+ age limit for Staff and Players, but going any lower than that can leave them in a lot of legal trouble if something goes wrong.

I couldn't agree more. While I unfortunately can't make it due to grad school, the location itself was almost enough to convince me to go. The best times I've had at BW events (BlizzCon, WWI, and now for SC2 Barcraft), were all at adult venues.

It's not American law. It's just New Jersey. I don't see how they can make a law for minors who most probably don't have any money to gamble away in the first place. I've been going to Las Vegas with family since I was 6.

There are a lot of up and coming interesting players who aren't quite yet 18 at least in Korea.
But yeah, don't get any of the USA hate. I always thought it was IPL shooting themselves in the foot by putting it in a casino which required them to set an age limit anyway, but it seemed fine until someone who indeed is a young star couldn't make it. Now it seems silly again =/
Actually I blame the hotel if anything. Silly hotel =/

Also i'm getting sick of all dumb American laws, ruining e-sports!
He's 18.
And how can you fault a casino for not wanting 15/16 year olds inside? lol
It's not illegal for them to be inside the casino only illegal for them to place wagers. Apparently NJ has some additional law where he can't physically touch anything either. Many Casino's in other states have a specific path set aside for underage people who need to pass through the gaming area to get to events with people watching them etc.

Well the thing of it is, it's kinda like a minor being caught drinking at a bar, he kid drinking is in trouble but the bar is fucked. You exacerbate that by the law being he can't even physically touch a gaming machine/table and it presents a very real legal concern.

It's unfortunately a very real thing that involves a heavy penalty from the gaming commission and goes on the hotel's track record.

Exactly. Being at an adult venue is a big draw for those of us that are over 21. TBH age restricted events/locations are where most of my social life has been spent since I turned 21 (taking out just going somewhere to eat). It's just more fun.
Awww it's such a shame Leenock won't be able to go to IPL 3 because he's too young, really sucks for younger players trying to get deeper into the scene. I'm glad he's going to MLG though, can't wait to see his sexy face on stage.

LMAO. You sir, are very clever, that was the funniest post I've seen in a while.
Can't they just you know...tell Leenock that it's illegal for him to touch any of the machines? Wouldn't that have worked? Why is Stephano fine but Leenock isn't? Isn't it just as illegal for Stephano to touch one of the machines? I cannot believe that there was no workaround for this. Leenock is screwed out of a possible $100,000 cash prize, and instead is competing for a much, much smaller prize pool at MLG Providence. I hope the next IPL can find a way around this for the players, if they hold it in an age-restricted venue again.

It's the result of the interaction between "Age of Majority" rules and Liability. This is true anywhere that Gambling is sanctioned. So, that's really not even specific to casino there.

Just want to throw out there that many Americans hated on France with the Stephano situation because by french laws stephano did nothing wrong.
People always hate on countries when it comes to laws.
