He had less than 20 bbs pushing from the cutoff into 3 midstacks. He had plenty of fold equity and ATs is a plenty good hand to shove in that situation. If he can't play ATs here, he can't play even more marginal hand and he will be blinded out really soon.

A good tourney player would probably make a 2x-2.5x raise there and fold to a shove, calling if the blinds were aggro.

In a tournament situation with a shorter stack its more along the lines of "If I shove here, do I have good odds to take down the pot now, and in the off chance I do get called, is my hand good enough to have a bit of equity?" Position and chip count of both you and the players to your left and in the blinds are far more important than the cards you have in that spot.

In the United States you can play on Carbon, which is part of the Merge network, but I wouldn't risk depositing anywhere if I were you. They do have some freerolls if you wanna start from scratch though. After all of the stuff on black friday, I wouldnt consider any online money safe as an American. :/ It kinda sucks.

He had already made the money, and now the steps up the money ladder are so small for the next few hundred spots. He can fold almost every hand and make an extra few thousand, or he can shove in marginal spots with decent fold equity and if he gets called he has decent odds against many calling ranges. You can't be folding A10 suited at that stage with no stack. You want to be in there, but you want a stack. If he folds he blinds out and ends up making the correct shove with a big hand later on, but only doubling back up to where he was. There was no real decision, and it's not that debatable to be honest.
