There's been discussion in the thread "Limited region "linking" announced" that we may be able to buy a TW account to play on the KR server after this linking happens. I wished to create this thread to centralize the discussion as I read the whole thread but didn't know how to do it.
I'm really keen on buying a TW account but I need some help. As we know from the other thread,
+ Show Spoiler +sells it for around $70 US.
Apparently you need a Taiwanese NID thingy, but people have said you can just use an online generator (question: why can't you just use a generator for the analogous Korean ID thingy?).
I don't want to buy it from the above link, as the following place says that you can now get it for under $40: + Show Spoiler +http://tw.battle.net/sc2/zh/blog/100552?page=2
The Taiwanese eBay comes up with 0 results when I search "starcraft 2", so there must be no listings in English. This doesn't help. + Show Spoiler +http://translate.google.com.au/translate?hl=en&sl=zh-TW&u=http://www.tw.ebay.com/&ei=j60bTtOWIoy4sAPCpoycBQ&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CC4Q7gEwAQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3Debay%2Btaiwan%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3DwOT%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26prmd%3Divns

One poster said that you can just change your region to TW in the battle.net settings and have a TW account that runs on English. Nobody disputed this individual's claim, yet somebody quoted this post and said that you need a Taiwanese NID. But, if you can find a generator of these IDs as other posters said, what exactly is stopping me from just changing the region on my current account to TW? Will I lose the ability to revert the region back to NA afterwards?
Thanks for any help!

you need to search Starcraft2 in chinese in Taiwan ebay...
|
id be interested in these answers too, but if I recall reading; I think the Taiwan SC copy is a "pay-per-month" thing; so while you found a $40 price, it may be only 60-days playcard kinda like WoW does.. I remember someone saying it costs like $200 to get a full unlimited-time license.
(dont quote me on it, not confirmed but just saying what I heard)

They are all the same game, just 40-60 bucks. There is no pay to play anywhere. But ya searching in English probably won't do you any good. Try chinese

星海爭霸 = starcraft, though it doesnt look like theres any listings on ebay anyway

SEA is not TW though, so not sure whether the gamepoints you buy there will be usable in TW server

Game Region Warning Retail copies sold in United States (your account country) will connect to the North America game region.
Will I still be able to play on tw or KR if i buy from a US IP address?

Well the MyCard points can just be added to your TW bnet account. 150 gets you 30 days (about 6 bucks), 1950 is the full version which equals roughly 75 USD.
I'm searching around for a TW Guest Pass, but I'm not sure if they exist or not. I guess 6 dollars to play on the Korean server for 30 days wouldn't be too big of a deal. It would probably be really fun.

You need to create a TW Battle.net account.

If you guys are looking for KR accounts pm EZPikachu. He may be able to help u out

you can wait till 7/14, the TW version will be 1150NTD, which is 40 USD. EZPikachu's KR account is too expensive...he asked for 100 USD

That's quite a discount :O
edit: for now i've gone for the 150pt 30 day option to test how the EU/kr lag is.
IF your right about the 40dollar 1150 card in 2 day's ill go for that too
|
|
Thanks. Their naming convention for products is bizarre
|
OOOOO can't read but I believe you because it is on the TW bnet website
|
Not sure how much I bought my copy for (I think like 1800 NTD which is around $60) but that was back around release.
Pretty sure you can get it cheaper for now.
Also, when I bought the game, I did not need a Taiwan ID#. That was a while ago and they might've added that requirement since but I would find that more than a bit odd.
Lastly, when I bought the game, it was no different from the US version. You pay once for the game, install it regularly, and you're done. No monthly fees, no points or whatever. I believe they have point cards and daily SC2 passes (which seems to me like a consideration for Net Cafes).
I have not logged onto my Taiwan account in a very long time but I guess I could give it a try sometime.
P.S. I guess I should also mention my suggestion that you make a new Bnet account instead of adding the game to your existing Bnet account like I foolishly did.
|
It's not a pay-by-the-month thing. I use a Taiwan account pretty regularly.

They made the ID as a requirement because of how Taiwan server connects to KR server so they have to make it that people can't get into the Taiwan server and play with Koreans.
I found it too easy to make a TW account on Bnet cause you just have to find a ID generator which should be able to say if it is valid or not

P.s got a TW and SEA account with SEA and NA version of the game. Time to get the TW version

Just got done with the phone verifcation process on offgamers.
See how this works out lag-wise from EU

First, regarding the NID issue, I clarified in the other Taiwan account thread that I made a US Bnet account FIRST then added SC2 Taiwan to that account via account management --> add a game --> enter CD-Key.
Perhaps making a Taiwan Bnet account does indeed require a NID. Though, like I said in the other thread, I don't see any reason why you would make a Taiwan Bnet account unless they changed something since I bought and installed the game.

Well, I'm not entirely sure as I haven't ran both copies of the game at the same time before, but my suspicion would be that you can't play both regions of SC2 at the same time. Sure, it might seem like a trivial issue to some but I think it's convenient to be able to lend one of your accounts out to someone and still be able to play on the other.

I am currently in Taiwan using my NA account, yes it works and you connect to NA servers. (i saw somebody asking above)
Use the pay-as-you-go-method for Taiwan, it's pretty simple I think.
|
I've tried buying the TW version of sc2 and it allows you to do it from your account......(even if your account is allocated to SEA)

Anyone got any idea wtf i need to do with my "serial" and password on the 150point "softpin" order for TW bnet? (from offgamers)
|

You use it to charge the battle.net account. I think there is some kind of bug recently regarding charging, apperently you only need to enter the password field and leave out the serial field, other wise you gets an error message.
|
can't anyone find one of the $35-$40 accounts like they sell in the local supermarket at taiwan? I don't wanna pay $70 I'm pretty poor.

Price will only drop down after 14th of July.

when i try to charge on bnet, i only get one input field
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/PgiUQ.png)
I figured i'd have to do something with that softworld website[in the red box], but i only get errors from that too. Is there some other bnet redeeming area? I've gone through the "recharge" screen, which brings me to the screen i've just shown you.
My serial and or password aren't long enough to enter into that form, the button stays grey. If i fill in the rest of the box, the submit button activates but obviously... this doesnt work
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/UxmDp.png)
This is the screen i get following the Red box'd link from bnet.
No matter if i follow your advice and put password in only, or serial, or both, i always get some error message pop up in chinese that google wont translate because its in its own image box.
Seem to be going round in circles now :S
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/pLJmR.jpg)
This is the error that pops up. Then it returns me to the above screen where you put in the serial/pass
|
So is this National ID Number a government issued thing? In that case, is faking it through a number generator breaking some sort of law or ToS? Not that I'm overly concerned about being prosecuted necessarily, but is something like this likely to cause an account to be banned?
|
That says verification code is incorrect.
I never charged my acc that way before, however I was able to get to the area with serial and pin. Give me a sec I will give you a screen shot.
I don't know if you can access this page, since the tw game is already listed on my account, all I did is click on it, and there was add game time/buy unlimited access, after choosing the 150point time I was able to enter to this page.

Thanks very much.
It's strange that it says verification code incorrect.
I've never failed a captcha, and it'd be odd if i'm failing this one 10-20 times in a row..

@Eleaven
Have you tried just entering it by selecting the 30 day trial on battle.net website?
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/u2YJA.jpg)
edit: someone beat me to it, but yes, you can access that page when you haven't purchased the game yet.

Alright I got it worked out.
First go buy a digital game option, make sure region is set to Taiwan, then there is choice between 150 point and unlimited pack, choose the 150 point and you'll able to enter that page.
I was managed to get into that page in an account that doesn't have the game.

I asked offgamers support, and they sent me a link to Mycard.520 where you put the serial + password in and that worked.. BUT now i have to chose the correct services, and ofc the dropdown box is all in chinese, so it can't be searched using control + f and it can't be autotranslated by the browser because its not plaintext on the page
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/4ogyA.png)
Thank you both so much for your time already though.. The fun part is, once i click on any of those links and hit confirm, that's it, i've bought that service and is unre-deemable and no refunds, so i don't want to get it wrong

Very weird, because I even tried on an account with no games on.

I did, using an account that is set to Taiwan, with a legit taiwan ID from a friend, with no games on it, clicked on the digital purchase link, and got taken to the wrong screen.
It just asks me for the prepair card number rather than serial/pass
I've made sure to re-read the comments both of you have written up, even gone to the extent of typing in the exact URL's shown on your screen after following the steps produced different results.
I'm left with the offgamers link to mycard.520... and i THINK i've found the battle.net option
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/OmVlC.png)
(thats the closest i can find to 戰網) Which is what google translate shows as the translation of battle net.
"starcraft" yields no results similar

On July 12 2011 15:39 furymonkey wrote: Can't you follow the steps I posted above first? I think it's safer that way.
That doesn't work. Some of us have MyCard's that need to be converted into Battle.net points before being able to be redeemed on the taiwan battle.net.
I'm stuck in the same place as some other people. I've found the conversion site but entering the point card code there doesn't work. I've also found the site that was posted in the screenshots above but get to the dropdown list and dont know what to select.
|
Ok, this might be confusing without pics, but I'll give it a shot.
1) Log onto your battle.net account.
2) Under Games + Codes, go to add or upgrade a game. When you get to that page, click the button under Purchase Digital Games. The button should say "View Available Games"
3) When you get to the screen where all of the blizzard games are shown, click the "change" button next to game region. You should be able to select taiwan from there.
4) You'll see the same page as before now, but it will be the taiwanese version of all of blizzard's games. From there, click starcraft 2.
5) You should see a drop down menu that gives you the options for 30 days or lifetime.
GL, I'm kind of using you to see if this works as well ^^
edit: again, someone beat me to it lol

Hi Eleaven,
Looks like you are on the same step as me. I have redeemed my mcard from offgamers (2000 point one) into points on mycard, my account balance shows 2000.
However, in emailing their support email, they have said the ability to transfer your mycard account points, into battle.net points (i.e. redeem them) is currently under maintenance. So i guess we have to wait?
Please let me know how you get on though, want this to work too!

Eleaven, I think I've found the solution. Right click on the page and hit view source, then scroll down til you see a bunch of chinese characters, it has the english translations right next to it. I believe it'd be this one: <option value="bnet|5">戰網卡</option>

worked out fine in the end picking the 4th option (the small one) i call it "many squares with a cross at the bottom, and a man pissing" thats how i found it in the list..
If anyone wants to add me on the TW server to have someone to practice with whilst getting used to the lag my add is
"feint.kr@gmail.com"
Prolly gonna hit the TW ladder in a bit, but the more people i know on the server the better. For reference im Master random on EU. (main T now tho)
edit. I also used the same relocaliser program (GSC) that i'd use to swap from NA/EU Took about 20 seconds and everything's working fine on TW

This is going to be bad with alot of foreigners on Korea... -_- I bought mine from offgamers...

ty eleaven, gonna go do the 30 day trial as well

wait until 7/14 when SC2 in Taiwan is going to be only 1150NT. (40$).
As soon as that hits, I'm walking to 711 to pick up my retail copy of the game and then install it!
I already got a TW BNet account, it isn't hard to generate your own NID.

Just remember, Taiwan players likes to all in off 1 or 2 bases.

Wut? So is there some kind of a 30-day trial possibility, without even needing to purchase another account? Sorry if i missed something obvious, i find this whole thing quite complicated.

Lol. Finding the correct maps in the map pool is interesting when it's all in moonrunes .
latency seems completely fine too. There's a very very small delay, but unless your staring at each action 1 by 1 you'll never notice it in gameplay outside of ridiculous micro, in which case your just gonna have to get used to the tiny input delay

It does cost money, many country in asia has these subscription business model, even for Starcraft 2. However most hardcore gamer would just buy the unlimited pack, which is no different than buying the game at a retailer.
It appears 30 days is the only subscription model left. When it first came out there used to be 3 days, 5 days and 3 months too.

You can log into both regions with the same account, infact, both in the same time. Personally I prefer having a seperate account, you never know when Blizzard will pull such a stunt again, and also give you ability to pass the game to someone else.

Yes. AFAIK (been asking about everything myself ) you need:
a) two different clients installed. One for TW, one for NA. OR b) localization tool which you use to change the localization of the client to the respected realm, where you are about to play.

This would be greatly appreciated. I think i've figured it out myself, but im not 100% sure and im being a bit paranoid on things like where i stick my Visa in. visa? just use paypal bro. Page 3 of this you can see my journey through all of this stuff.
Actually i am following your footsteps on this one, just didnt reach the actual payment part yet (cause i gotta spam tha forums! :D ). But yeah indeed if PayPal is an option then its no problem.

Gah looks like i should have waited till someone with more smarts and language ability posted a guide!! doh!!!
(i purchased the 2000 point my card, but, unfortunately, redeemed it as mycard member points instead of the bnet option!!)
Apparently, i can still turn the mycard member points into bnet points , but they have said that system is down for maintenance. Will post again if i make progress
Trust in TL guides !! !!!

this doesnt work anymore since MyCard stopped supporting conversion of Mycard points to Battlenet points -.-
|
Works fine for 30 day trials it seems.
And according to emails with their support, the part of converting my card points into BNET points is only down for maintenance, not removed entirely (i have emailed them repetitively)

I am having trouble purchasing the points from the offgamers site because it seems as though for USD they do not support PayPal anymore (they did yesterday but I go refunded....). Anyone else have this problem?
|
Offgamers have the 1150 point codes back in stock. Just bought one and after some phone verification got it sent to me via email. Worked and have added a TW game to my account. Just waiting for the TW client to download now.

Why do people want TW accoutn anyways. There is so muhc lag between kr and us that it is near unplayable for some. I am lucky to not have a problem. But others will. Also Koreans are hard as hell to play against. My feeling is that most People will buy tw account, then get palced in gold or something like thats and give up after getting destroyed often.
Just my thoughts it seems

Unplayable for some. Perfectly playable for others. My ping to KOR is quite good from the U.S., around 200ms. It only costs $6 to try it out for 30 days, and if a player finds that the lag sucks too much they don't have to pay/play any more than that.
Also, the point of playing on the KOR/TW server IS to get your ass kicked. It's the old theory of "no pain, no gain." Everybody has heard that KOR gamers are better. Pro gamers like HuK, IdrA, FXO team, etc. travel to KOR to train, and they always come back much-improved. Regular players like us can never have that opportunity, so we do the next best thing: simply playing on the KOR ladder against KOR players. For only ~$40 you can play on the best ladder with the best players, which is a good deal for many.
You might toil around in KOR ladder's gold or plat division for months, and you'll lose a lot of games. You'll be matched up with other gold players and be like "wtf they can already do perfect marine micro and baneling splits at this level?" And you will get used to it and become a better player. And if you stick with it for long enough, you will no doubt be able to come back to the NA/EU ladders and notice a big skill jump compared to where you were before. High diamond and even Masters on NA/EU will seem trivial to obtain.
Like they say, "play with the best, or die like the rest!"

i bought a tw accnt from offgamers and they gave me a serial and a code. Neither works on battle.net for ANY region... kinda confused now.
I get this message on battle.net
"An error has occurred. The game key you entered cannot be claimed. Please check the key and try again. Alternatively, you can enter this key for a different region by changing the leading part of the www.battle.net URL (ex. “eu.battle.net”) in your web browser, or for a different Battle.net account"
|
Can't you just buy a NA account and call blizzard and ask them to make it into TW? People did this for NA -> EU and vice versa.
|
Ok nvm figured it out. went to tw.battle.net and "recharged account". it accepted the 1,150 pt code i got from offgamers.com and let me purchase a tw sc2 account from my NA accnt. sweet
edit: one thing to note is that both my NA and TW clients only show up when I am on tw.battle.net and the TW version does not show up under my games when on us.battle.net. not a big deal, since i can just change the url
