Too bad Goatlust didn't make it on. Terrible c-c-c-ombobreaker. Thank you and gj to Incontrol for the shoutout towards Rezudox. The mp3 is what keeps me going. There's also MIKster who hosts a link archive that isn't getting much love: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=373988

I think the most important point is that the size of the playerbase matters and expecting to be able to grow and maintain the tournament scene long term with a dwindling playerbase is foolhardy. I think Brood War comparisons and casual vs competitive debates are just sidetracks.

How much, if any, did WC3 benefit from all of the DotA players? Because if you want some clear data on droves of UMS players being interested in a professional scene by association, WC3 would be a really good source.

Because if you want some clear data on droves of UMS players being interested in a professional scene by association, WC3 would be a really good source. Dota is different, it's the only counter argument you could make because it was that big that it created his own scene aside from WC3. But it doesn't mean anything, there were a lot of other custom games in WC3, and most of them did not seclude themselves from the big 1vs1 game. Also there is so much hate it's ridiculous. People need to calm down and talk rationally, and stop resorting to ad hominem arguments. We're not talking about Incontrol, Wheat or Destiny, but only about the game and it's evolution. What I get from all those is that, aside from the useless trash talk everyone (coming from Incontrol, but also Destiny, and in the end almost everyone who took part in this discussion) most of the people were agreeing on the key points but just not on the course of action (and some side arguments like the custom scene doesn't help the pro scene, which is wrong). The only who thought in a different manner was Wheat, who argued that the streams numbers were not declining but just too spread out due to the inflation of content, which is I think a reality that should be discussed too.

It's emblematic of how irrational the uproar really is.

It is really gross that a small group of active Reddit users make it their purpose to harass DjWheat and the Inside the Game members. The majority of us have better things to do than camp Reddit and wait for a nasty thing to be written about Wheat so we can up-vote them, but there are kids out there with that much free time. Still, they are going to harass someone, because that is what they decide to do with their free time. I wish Wheat the best and hope everything turns out fine. I will be there to watch the next show when it comes on.
