UPDATE - Feb. 3, 2012: WE'RE COMING BACK! This group channel was extremely useful for a lot of people for a while but it fizzled out over the holidays with a lot of players busy. It's a new year and time to revamp the "Game Time" channel back to previous levels of grandeur! Starting the afternoon of February 3rd, I'll be idling in the channel again and setting up practice games once more. If you are Diamond/Master level player on the NA server and want a group to get practice games, join the channel and stick around (If you are one of the first back, numbers might be slim until this thread gets views again). I expect numbers to shoot back up once everyone realizes that it is going active once more. Tell your friends and get this resource rolling again! Previously we had up to 60 concurrent players in the channel and practice games were easy to come by. My Battle.net ID is at the bottom of the post so feel free to send me a tell if you have questions or if you just want to chat about this badass game.

Note: I'm aware of the Practice Partner thread, however, I am looking to create a group that is consistently active and has the same goals in mind when approaching practice. Many of the players I have contacted in the Practice Partner thread have played one game and then called it quits. I am also aware of other posts similar to this but I have repeatedly tried to contact people in the other groups without success. Therefore, my intention in forming this group is to get people who are having the same issues and want other active and driven players to improve with.
To begin, I am a Diamond level Zerg player who is looking to get in plenty of practice playing outside of ladder matches. The ultimate goal of mine is to make the jump into Masters. The problem for me, and undoubtedly many others, is that trying out new things on ladder can be frustrating. It's one thing to follow BOs that progamers have developed and blindly play the game without completely understanding what you are doing. It's a totally different story when you are able to see the consequences of your choices pan out later on down the road. Personally, I find the latter of these two approaches more appealing because it trains your ability to adapt. In custom games, I feel that the pressure to follow only standard BOs is somewhat relieved and you can make tweaks to current strategies or attempt something completely new.
Details for anyone interested:
1. Be ready to have fun. This is a game after all and although analysis and discussion is aimed at becoming better as a player, I feel it is most important to enjoy the community and game.
2. Please be diamond level or above...I understand that this isn't necessarily a reflection of your true skill but it's one of the only benchmarks in the game that has any merit.
3. Be online fairly consistently. This doesn't mean be online at all hours of the day, every day, no exception. Simply be around and be active. I hope this can be a fun way to progress in the game without the constant stress of only laddering.
4. Be mannered...this should be a given but I feel I should explicitly state it. Nothing irritates me more than senseless BM.
5. Lastly, this is a group intended for practice so be ready to analyze and critique...with solid feedback and consistent participation I have no doubt that those who are willing can achieve their goals.

I tried doing something similar but it was a group of people with all skill levels. Well it didn't quite work out because of the skill differences and lack of activity of lower league players. Anyways, I could probably provide the vent server if you get a good group of people. I already have one just not sure how many slots it supports.

You need more than a build order and 10 mins in yabot to get good with Zerg, so you tend to see a lot of them looking for practice games

Been tons of customs being played...either icjug maps or regular 1 custom games. The channel is the best place to grab yourself some practice. It's getting harder to manage all the PMs I'm getting in game so just get a hold of those of us already on board in the Game Time channel. Glad to see games actually going around and not simply another idle channel of trolls.

Just wanted to say that this is actually working beautifully, and have had some very interesting matches so far. And am getting a lot of information about my weaker match-ups from the people I have been playing. I will be spending a LOT of time in here, playing the top diamond players and getting tips/tricks on what your weaknesses are is great.
Learning a lot from people who are interested in both parties improving, unlike ladder where people roll random and then cheese... such a waste of time.
And So far every1 has had a pretty good attitutde. Have only had one person who even kinda was irritating. But even then it was just a "well i played terrible and was playing from behind all game cause i was just playing bad i handed you the game" and refused to just say "gg" had to explain his loss =/.
But my othjer 5-6 people i have played have been amazingly well mannered and every1 has been interested in helping both parties improve.
One day we should do a tournament, like designate a weekend and do a mini tournament or at least some sort of group-play so we can vs every1 who is in on this. would be fun imo.

I want to say how cool it is that this room/group popped up. Me and a few of my diamond buddies were doing some slow recruitment off of ladder to get a practice group up, but one post on TL and there were 50+ people gathered in the chat room.
Now that the group is formed I wonder if it would be good to add some organization to it. Here are some suggestions:
1) Get a name for our group? Could be an informal or formal clan in no time.
2) New chat room please. Game Time is a real lame name... we need something cool.
3) Tournament/KOTH or more regular game/practice schedule would be cool.
Glad to see everyone participating and having fun while learning. I bet many of us will hit Masters in no time! GL HF!

So the channel exploded and to whoever said Game Time is a lame name, I agree. I made something up in like 10 seconds so I could start giving people somewhere to go. As far as the clan idea goes, that might be something for the future but it would be a much smaller subsection of this channel seeing as probably 150 different people have shown up over the past couple of days at least.
As far as practice goes, anyone that's still interested contact me in game...that's the best way to get in touch with me due to the sheer magnitude of this response. Shoot me a PM through Bnet and I'll get back to you asap.
For those of you who have been playing with us so far, this has worked out really well for most people and keep showing up for games. I'm finally starting to get games in with a lot of different players so I might actually know a small fraction of y'all now :D. Whereas the group started off Zerg-heavy, I think we've finally started to balance out the Terran and Protoss players over the past few days.
Either way, keep the games coming and we'll keep this sucker rolling...I'm thinking a possible KotH this weekend might be in order.

I'll be all up in this channel when I get off work in a few hours for sure. I'm a super low master Z but I really want to see how good my other races are. I'm something like 85-17 with T playing public custom 1v1's b/c most of those guys are ~plat. And I'd say my T is pretty bad so... I need to stop playing those public customs or I'll never ladder again...

Rofl, so I had the great intention of joining this group, and I did, the first day, and roamed around in the channel before that.
I had the bright idea of switching races though, and now I'm probably not diamond level yet with that race. (terran)

It's great place for practice partners and it's a good place to hang out, but we relly could use a few more players right now(Usually around 20-25 online at all time, but a lot of them are in-game too).

This is the first time that I've seen this thread for some reason, but I'll be hanging out in channel 'game time' when I'm on in the future.

I'm interested in doing the exact thing that the OP describes, but can only dedicate time in the mornings. I'm in California, and I make time to play before I go to work, usually from 6am-8am mon-fri, pst.
I'll plan on joining the channel around that time tomorrow, but, if you're interested, leave a comment or pm so I can see if anybody else is in the same boat, or just join the channel.

Necroing thread to find a select few practice partners. Need 2-3 toss, 1-2 Terran and maybe another Zerg. We use Teamspeak so have a mic and be willing to talk and that's pretty much it. The channel is still semi-alive but want to have a smaller group now with more consistent players.
