ggBet.net is entering beta and we need some beta testers from the Starcraft 2 community.
Whats is ggBet.net?
ggBet.net is a little project I have been working on for a few weeks. Its an eSportsbook specifically built for Starcraft 2. You can place bets on Starcraft 2 events and matches using our virtual currency. Just like any other sportsbook you can place both straight bets (single bets) and parlays (multiple combined bets).
All our odds are set in-house so you will see a wide range of events being covered. We will be starting off with the bigger events such as MLG, NASL, GSL and the TSL. As things progress we will be looking to set odds on as many events as we can.
ggBet is 100% free to play and has absolutely no means of depositing money. This means anyone and everyone can play.
We really want as much feedback as possible from the community. At the moment the feature set is pretty basic, but I'm ready to build it into something really exciting. I have alot of ideas, but I'm really keen to hear what you think of it now, and what you would like to see.
Feedback & Bugs: - Post in this topic. - Post via the feedback widget on ggbet.net - Email: support@ggbet.net - Twitter: ggBet.net Twitter - Facebook: ggBet.net Facebook
One feature I have created specifically for the teamliquid community is embeddable match graphics. These graphics can be posted in match topics on the forum and will automatically update as players place bets. That way you can see which players are being backed and on which maps in real time.

Could be cool, especially if we could get something with the virtual currency. Like a shop to buy real items or something =)
|
You should use a font more readable... like Helvetica.
|
cool idea, i hope it takes off!
what are the leftmost numbers for though?

I will change it now. I'm not much of a designer...

It's a cool idea, but you ask for a stupid amount of personal information for a fantasy betting site

what are the leftmost numbers for though? leftmost numbers are Moneyline / American odds. Its the odds format most used in America. The decimal odds are also shown.
On the website you can select your preferred odds format. We have decimal, american and fractional.

I run 1680x1050 resolution, the right bar is placed above the other content and looks odd, when I zoom in the page fixes itself, so you may want to look into the layout when in higher resolutions.

I also think the social networking box is massive, two small buttons (one for Twitter, one Facebook) should be fine, you can also place them under articles to promote certain articles not just the website as a whole.
Looks promising though, I haven't signed up yet so I cant talk about the betting, but I will do soon.
|
Looks good! I signed up, website layout is a bit wonky (running Firefox 4.0).

Most of the problems I have with this have already been mentioned. The information required to sign up is close to ludicurous and will make a lot of people not sign up / enter wrong data. Also, the font really is hard to read .
What has not been said yet is that I feel like there needs to be some steady "income" for players. Sinceyou only get this one dollar and 0.25 if you lose everything makes the whole thing pretty boring. With the fact that players who reach 0 balance getting new money, there will be an inflation either way. The only way to earn more being winning it from other players (if I understood correctly the "money" you earn by doing those horrible offers with which you finance the website and probably also earn money adds to a different balance, and not the "normal" balance) keeps the numbers insanely low and makes everything a lot less exciting. There will never be a real serious competition in this, since it is more of a fun thing, and competition is the only thing I can see that speaks against it.
Edit: Oh, and the twitter box is broken. I didnt even notice it since it's stuck down there. Running on Chrome.
Edit2: I just realized the top thing is not twitter but the suggestion box...
Edit3: Suggestion and Twitter is no longer misplaced. You work fast!

Few things:
- No Terms of and Conditions to read - No guarantee that emails/private information will not be sold on registration page
I thought this was pretty innocent, but with the addition of actual prizes, this smells like a Pyramid scheme
edit:
Says private information will not be made public, but without the ToS...
Sorry, this has just caught be by surprise, it has just sprung up out of no where, prizes and all...

Yea I need to put up some terms and conditions. I just wanted to test out the site. The plan is to give away prizes at some point, but that wont be until after beta.
I can assure you there is no pyramid scheme. We dont sell anything... lol.
The registration form needs some attention. There is alot of unnecessary info in there.
|
Awesome idea. Will we be able to bet with real money in the future?

it is just this line that kinda makes me secpticle:
GG$ Bonus is awarded to users for completing offers and through regular promotions and prizes
That is pretty much how sites like Lockerz works...
But anyway, I'll just wait till the entire thing gets revealed before I keep going on this with this tin foil hat spiel

It would also bring up the contentious issue of match fixing.
I think the site can be better and more fun without real money on the line.

Seems interesting enough. Wonder if GosuGamers.net is gonna be upset cause this is a better system from what I can tell all around. GJ sir!
|
Nice idea man im definately gonna try this out, is this based around like real gambling sites? I personally wouldnt know i never have gambled online before but this could help teach me how so i could in the future, also not ever using real money is a really good idea i think having places like this around will give every area of the community something fun to do/talk about! +1 for u my friend

Isn't this basically an unpaid ad, aka spam?
|
I think you should have on that update bar (which is great btw) telling us what they bet on for that match up not just that they placed a bet. profile picture gets a big up in my book
really like the site I hear the koreans have something like this and I think this could grow pretty nicely.
Edit love the bet interface the profile pictures could be better but I like the set up for that bet interface
|
|
could you make it so that I can cancel a bet I made?
|
Not to take anything away from this website, I'll probably use it though I am worried something might happen. I'd be more worried if you actually did allow real money to be used for bets. Money gambling websites that bet on starcraft games have had a bit of a history around TL and korean eSports.

There are a huge range of issues with real money gambling on starcraft 2. That is exactly the reason I have made this website. You can have all the fun of gambling without the risk to your finances and more importantly without risking the integrity of eSports.
I can't make this any more clear. We dont and will never offer real money gambling We have big plans for the site, none of which involve getting a gambling license or in any way offering real money gambling.

well I lost that bet with nada and kas so I guess I'm back down to that .25 mark. just waiting for that tick to come where it knows the result and it refilled my account.

As stated we are in beta. Due to a minor issue last night some of the bets have not been automatically processed. I am processing them now manually. I will let you know when everything has been completed.
Edit: All bets have now been processed.

Hoping for morrow to upset MC in dreamhack tonight. Make my risky bet pay off
|
Props to putting up all the NASL matches
It would have been cool if you had little things like a bracket challenge for stuff like dreamhack and tsl with the closest person getting the pot.
the interface when working with multiple bets is broken I can only put down the ammount I want for one bet and the rest just sit there and I can open up that bet page.
Your in beta still so I don't expect something from you like instant bet payouts its cool that you really have something in the works at least for that though

no he wants beta testers so we can help him find bugs and make things better on his site before he goes into a full site.

Wow, I can't wait for a site that deals with real money bets on eSports.
But this is... fun I guess.
|
I dont like the whole "get 5 gg points for doing this referral"-thing you've got going on. Really lowers the way I see the site. Don't think I'll be using it. Ask for donations if you want money.

Very very promising, but per above please chagne the font, and work on support for stranger resolutions ^^

Font on embeddable images has been changed. Are there other areas in which you feel the font needs changing?

But this is... fun I guess. There already is. But I would be dubious about real betting on eSports ever truly taking off. There has already been a huge scandal around betting on Starcraft and due to the nature of the competition it is highly susceptible to manipulation.
Anyway, as stated were not going down that road. Good luck to anyone who wants to.

I got exited for nothing, i thought it was real money.
|
I have thought about this idea for a while now. I'm glad someone had the drive to create this! I am looking forward to seeing what comes out of it.
|
Im in looks like it could be great fun. Good site functionality so far, ill post some more feedback once ive used it a bit more!
Thanks for the initiative for making a better community

If you could get ahold of some good sponsors I could really see this working, similar to D2JSP. At like 300 betting points you can cash in for steelseries gear or something awesome.

TSL odds are up for tonight

What happened to the site?
I get a blank page everytime...

I get a blank page everytime... Yea I had some major issues with the web host. They couldnt fix a very basic issue so it was time to move.
The website is now on a new server with a new company so everything should be much faster from now on.
The website is back online. All outstanding bets have been settled. Odds are now up for tomorrows NASL matches.
