Plus they need very solid evidence that the player is hacking, most hacking reports are probably not accurate at all. As for the ones claiming to be banned unfairly, they are either lying or can get Blizzard to recheck their stories but they will never ever tell you why you got banned, they don't have to and you agreed to it if you ever got past the log in screen of the game. I think they also started banning people for using trainers in SP. Or some other SP cheats that rely on changing game memory. Plus verbal abuse, but that should be just a suspension. In wow it's usually 3+ suspensions for insulting and being reported to get permanent ban. None of these seem over the top, it is a social game after all, rules do apply and hope people start understanding that.

On the other hand, they don't want to permaban a whole bnet account just for using one racial slur, because then they'd lose customers (i.e. their teen WoW crowd which is spilling over into SC2) So the 5000 seems like a reasonable number.

People need to remember that Blizzard clearly states any modification will give them power to terminate your account/access. This is why awhile back when someone invented the apm hook to display apm i said it is probably something people should avoid using. And it looks like some people used trainers to get achievement points in brutal... Single Player maybe single..but it is still connected to b.net.

Blizzard doesn't have a temp-ban option like there is on TL (edit: reference missing, but you don't read about such a thing in the media). It's called "Account suspensions" and Blizzard has those. Blizzard even says: "including suspensions and bans" - therefore not even 5000 perma bans.

I've read somewhere that you can test whether a person you reported is banned or not by adding them to you friends list. So if you get something like "user does not exist" than that person is most likely banned. Can somebody confirm this?
