And for the 'stupid' updates, well, on paper it is one thing, in reality it is completely different. That's the whole purpose of the beta, testing stuff(even the obviously wrong one) with a large number of users.

You guys quoting the bit about the Ultralisk realize Blizzard is several patches ahead of the public right? That was made clear in one of the recent interviews Browder did, he wasn't even really sure what version we were playing... The reason that says something about Ultralisks, even though they aren't used in public much, is because internally they were probably being used a lot after the buffs they also got. The strike cannon nerf was probably a similar thing. Possible order of events: 1. Hey guys, Ultralisks aren't being used much.. 2. Ultralisks buffed, everyone is required to use them (internally) 3. Ultralisks get owned by thor's strike, 4. Internal patch to nerf strike a bit 5. ultra's owned by infestor NP 6. Patch cut to nerf NP a bit 7. Oh look, they happen to notice, all my other ground units are getting owned by splash damage when I use ultralisks because whaddya know, splash hits hit at the front of a unit instead of the center etc etc... finally changes are compiled and we have patch 11... keep in mind this was probably weeks ago and they're back in the earlier parts of the process for the next change.. I can't believe so many people have the impression that Blizzard just sits around playing the beta like we do, with the idea they write patches in response to the beta... The beta is to test specific things, of course major issues are identified there and escalated but if I had to guess I would say most of the changes we see in patch 11 are not based on beta observations at all, they're based on internal playtesting (hence why you see so many responses to Ultralisk, a unit not used in beta). Blizzard could be 3 to 4 patches ahead of the beta internally, who knows what they're playing. Dustin didn't know what version the beta was in.

What's unclear about that? lol

When will people learn to stop taking everything at face value and do a little thinking before they type? Ultralisks are the butt of a joke right now in the beta. Blizzard has been trying to use them in their own internal playtesting, or in matches on b.net vs. random opponents. They find WHY the ultralisk sucks and fix it piece by piece. This patch is just a few of those pieces. When this breaks something else, they'll fix that but the main concern is making all tier 3 useable IMO.

The thor does 30x2 dmg now. A queen has 175 HP. The thor needs to shoot (30x2)*4 to kill a queen as 3 shots would equal 174 damage due to 1 armor on the queen. That is right, the queen has 1 hp. Good luck with the thordrop queensnipe.

They have to make the units interesting for the low level players, else every new user will get owned/bored very fast. The pro balancing will have to wait for after the official game release. That's the whole purpose of the beta, testing stuff(even the obviously wrong one) with a large number of users. The new players will be matched against players of equal skill. Noobs getting owned should be a non-factor. Also, Blizzard already have the practice leagues and challenges to teach micro. I don't think they are only making the game for noobs.

Rampage: Ultralisk enrages grating him 25% speed increase and 15-20% dmg reduction for 8-10 sec on a 30 sec cooldown. That would effectively bring Ultralisk back in the game as line breaker unit that would be harder to focus fire early in the fight. That what it needs.

I like your counter to the strategy here - I counter with that Terran doesn't have that same option...But the counter to that is viking's out-range the phoenix. But...I again raise the flag of: "How are you guys not bitching up a complete storm about the phoenix?" I'm not trying to get myself or the change flamed I guess - perhaps just for the typical veteran to swing in and be like "It is an okay change for XYZ reasons" I just really can't believe this is intended...Not only goes it seem like it will be abused, it looks visually absurd! At first I thought (hoped) that via the You Tube video the dude doing it was ultra-leet micro...Alas he was not. --- Also, can someone confirm or deny a muta-lisk change? They seem to clump together a lot better now and I swear if i do: Move->Hold Position->Move they will attack mid flight and continue without much deceleration. ---

When this breaks something else, they'll fix that but the main concern is making all tier 3 useable IMO. At the same time though, it's kind of weird. The only reason why they cite matching NP and strike cannons researchable rather than default was ultralisks. In fact, every change they made in which they cited "buff ultralisks" was a change that I would never have thought was for buffing ultralisks themselves, since the changes tended to have big implications for the non-ultralisk game. NP and strike cannons in partcular affect thor drops and seemed to increase thor effectiveness while making them kinda less cheesy (in terms of drop -> destroy hatch). Yet they don't even mention that they are aware of these implications. They only say they're buffing ultralisks. From the changes and the fact they didn't enact all of them right away, I'd guess that they have a pretty good idea of what they're doing actually. At the same time "buff ultralisks" is a weird thing to cite as the only reason for these changes.
