If you've been here for a few years and not managed to get 500 posts, then really you have not been active enough. And judging it by number of store purchases favours people in a better financial position. Post count is just the simplest and most fair way to judge it.

This 500 post requirement is ridiculous. I've visited TL almost everyday for longer than year now and I've even turned my addblock down just for you guys. But I'm not eligible for this discount because I haven't spammed threads with "interesting" "oh no  " "best of luck" "gj!" type of meaningless post not contributing with anything.
It's so much harder as a non native English speaker to actually contribute since I don't know how to properly express myself and my views or how to give advice.
But nevertheless happy birthday TL and let's get back to this raffle when you turn 20!

TL.net is the website that opens automatically when i open my browser. Your estimation on users being not active when they have few posts is simply the falsest statement i've read in a long time. I bet more than 90% of TL's active users have less than 500 posts. TL is not only a forum but also a community site where you can read huge write-ups, blogs, statistics and what not. That are all activities where you don't ever need to post anything.
This raffle will create 1) a lot more spam and comments without actual content in it on these forums 2) disappoint a lot of active regular, legit TL users.
It will overall cast a bad light on TL.net
edit: just saw you registered mid 2011 and have 900 posts? i bet 90% of your posts are simply said garbage and contribute NOTHING to a nice read in these forums. This is exactly why this raffle is senseless and the points I made are valid

Teamliquid is a forum-heavy content news site. Without people posting, there is a lot less content to bring in new users. Without content, you don't have people visiting. Without people visiting, you don't have a way to say "Look, advertisers, we can bring you a global audience in the key demographic of (primarily) males 18-35 with disposable income." Making quality posts makes TeamLiquid.net a great site for everyone.
So being a lurker helps in a number of ways, but TL is created (to a fair extent) by the people that post quality posts. (I'm not one of them; even this post is probably not good.) People lurking are great. People that post are wonderful. Would you lurk if no one posted?
(If you want to debate the key demographic thing, let's not. For that matter, if you are going to reply to this, just... don't.)

It's astonishing how this thread got to 24 pages solely from people complaining about the minimum post count, people replying to those people, and the occasional person saying "Thank you TL."

If this raffle would only include marked quality posters I'd have no problem at all. That would have to be earned.
Most of the people with more than 500 posts don't differ from the standard lurker with 50 posts.
As I've found out above, about 90% of your posts are one-liners. So if you substract 90% of your posts, that would leave you with 90 post. Maybe 180posts if we are generous. And thus not deserving your raffle entry.
Spamming content-less one-liners instead of just reading should not be rewarded in a way like this.

Because seeing the past 10 of my 950 posts clearly denotes me as an awful poster. This is a silly argument, and the fact only people with over 500 posts are getting keys will not be changed.

It's crazy that so many people are complaining about this. It's not like they are giving away a million dollars or anything, it's just a beta key. I would think more people would be grateful they are on such a great site as TL and would not complain about peoples' chances of getting a gift just because they don't meet the requirements. Stop acting so spoiled, selfish, and entitled, and be grateful for TL. Here's to hoping this thread is filled with a vocal minority.
