Frankfurt is hilarious. In their 5 Bundesliga games and 2 CL games so far, there's been an average of 6 goals per game.

I mean in real time it does look like Konate gets the foot there first which would be a stonewall pen. But obviously the VAR makes it really obvious its never a pen.

We look dreadful going forward. Outside the unlucky pen, Gala didn't really pressure us all that much. But our passing just looks so fucking tragic right now.

Losing to Gala is Slot's low point of his Liverpool career...
Maybe it was Klopp's squad carrying the title and little of slot?

I don't think the losses are that big of a deal yet, but they need at least a breather to sort things out. Whatever ideas Slot has, they're probably easier implement if you get a full week of training instead of constant travel & match prep.

They shouldn’t and he shouldn’t I don’t think. Granted I’m a neutral, but I think it’d be cool to see what he can do with Palace this season, on a rare European excursion.

I think it makes a lot of sense, but perhaps not now.

I’m not sure Amorim would ever have been successful at United, but I absolutely think them insisting it was ‘now or never’ and him leaving Sporting mid-season greatly hampered him.

A lot is made about Glasner playing a similar system to Amorim, but he really doesn’t. Same formation, but Palace sit tight and counter-punch, United try to press high and have a lot of the ball. United don’t really have an Adam Wharton in their ranks either. Or a Kante type player, and just as Anormim needs one, so too would Glasner in his formation, even if it’s employed differently.

Realistically, I’m not sure there’s a coach on the globe who can pick United up and make them push for the European spots. There’s good sides there, who are already functional and in their stride.

Maybe Amorim turns it around, maybe not. I think they’re better off just consolidating and having a succession plan, bring in a caretaker if they must. Then let the new guy hit the ground running the second the season ends, and have a joined-up recruitment plan for the new guy.

The only thing that hampers Amorim is his "philosophy" aka. complete lack of adaptability and tactical nous.

It’s also his big strength though as well, all of his success is built off of it. He wasn’t a guy who came up through the ranks and had success employing different approaches, who then innovated his trademark system. He’s never done anything else.

I’m not defending his inflexibility, but if his strength is the system, for all its currently flawed implementation, you dilute that what are you left with?

Its one of my favourite football quotes.

id take xavi.

if were gonna have to gamble on a manager then why not him. he at least would set the team up the way i would like to see united play, and tbh i think xavi would respect man utds traditions more as he is a barca guy himself.

also i think if we dont get a win against sunderland i think amorim has to go. honestly id love to see amorim given time if we had some positive results, but the bare minimum of results just isnt coming. on top of that, any time you see amorim in the media now he just looks defeated. his expression, demeanour and everything just seem like a guy thats given up tbh. its quite possible that hes just waiting to be sacked and saying he will never change and he wants to stay etc because thats the only thing he can actually do to preserve his own value. if he changed his system now or resigned then he would seem weak and pathetic.

How's Xavi's english?

The thing we've seen with United is that you need to work on more things than just the pure tactics & football. You need to improve the mentality and navigate the dressing room hierarchy and organization in general. In that sense I think they need a manager who can communicate with the whole club rather than just a set of players and coaching staff.

Not that I have any good suggestions though. They've burned through so many managers by now that I have no clue.

Is Xavi that good a coach? He did win the league with Barca and did a good job in a tough time for that club. But that’s club legend Xavi at his own club

I think if you’re going for a coach who was a player from the golden era of Spanish football, Xabi Alonso ain’t available.

Cesc Fabregas is doing legitimately impressive things at Como. And he is a fluent English speaker already. Knows the league, knows the culture and the rivalries.

Crazy underrated player IMO. A synthesis of a Spanish technician and the all-action English midfielder. I don’t think he’s better than a Xavi, or an Iniesta in their specialised role, I do think he’s a better all-round player. Crazy underrated. I’d maybe take Xavi, or Iniesta, or David Silva if I had a good team and a pattern of play established. If I didn’t, and it’s pick one guy to upgrade a moribund midfield, I would genuinely pick Fabregas.

His coaching seems to be going in a similar route. You don’t really hear much about him as an up and comer, but he really is doing pretty well.

Media work ain’t management, but he’s been a very impressive analyst any time I’ve seen him on UK media. Sharp analysis, he’ll point out things others have missed, and he’s very good at communicating it too.

If you’re going to take a risk and go a bit left field on some promising but largely unproven coach, I think Fabregas would be a great shout.

Xabi Alonso didn’t have some insane credentials, but Leverkusen made paydirt there.

The problem is I don’t think the United top brass have it in them to make such an inventive appointment.

They’ll take a punt on someone who’s a proven winner in a lesser league, will they take a punt on someone who’s merely punching above their weight in a big league?

They won’t. Part of why Ashworth left the club was they just ignored his recommendation of Thomas Frank. Who I think would have been a good appointment

quite good actually, from what ive seen. probably better than amorim tbh

if we were to go with the unproven manager then yeah fabregas would also be in the candidacy, although he doesnt seem to be someone that has much affinity for united in the first place. not a requirement per se but it would still be a nice bonus. xavi however has won with barca and maybe it was slightly easier for him because its his club but it would be a good test for him at united imo. also he has spoken positively about united in the past so the respect and interest is definitely there.

Dunno. The jump from Como to United seems a bit too big.
Amorim is gone before X-Mas and then you have Glasner in pole position and Gareth Southgate and Bournemouth-Coach Andoni Iraola in 2nd and 3rd with Cesc as a far away 4th IMO

Think you're overreacting to this mate. I mean sure, when your first season you win the Prem, and then you suffer two losses in a row (while still being top of the Prem btw), I guess that's fine for your low point in your managerial career. We have a new squad basically with several new players and a key way of playing that we need to adjust (relying on long balls from Trent to a more dribbling-centric style of playing through Wirtz and Frimpong as examples). The players I'm worried about are the ones who are making the silly mistakes who have been part of the team for a while now, Konate in particular, but also players like Macca who doesn't look fit at all so he shouldn't be playing. I do think Slot needs to unleash Kerkez down the wing and force Gakpo to have more interplay with Kerkez's overlapping runs instead of his normal cut inside and do nothing moves (unless he actually see the space), but at this point Gakpo is a 1 trick pony that defenses know exactly what he's doing.
