I feel Bruno gets way too much flak these days, given his historic performances at a club that’s delved into shambolic territories at times.
That said, I don’t think as good a player as he is, that he can run a midfield in Amorim’s system as one of the two.
Indeed, United don’t really seem to have any players that can really do that job.
It still feels Amorim has his system, and the squad overall is now slightly better suited to it but there are still notable holes where personnel and the system don’t match up.
We shall see how it goes,

Yeah, Bruno is not it in a 2 midfield situation. He needs to be played in a 4231 with minimal defensive/tracking back responsibilities, almost like in a messi role.
Also, lmfao Trent not even in the starting 11 for RMA. Hope that move is working out for you Trent.

Bruno as double pivot sounds pretty crazy, especially considering that they started him with Casemiro of all DMs. You'd need a prime Kante there to cover it defensively.
Also, I don't think they've been THAT creative offensively that you'd get any excuses. 1 goal in 2 games, listed as own goal.

our formation is just shit. we dont have a cm pairing that has both the technical ability to receive the ball in tight spaces and turn/take someone on, and the athleticism to cover ground or press with intensity. were constantly outnumbered in the middle as well and so were always forced to rely on our wingbacks for everything. amorims system honestly requires absolute god tier wingbacks for this thing to work it seems
i absolutely hate how we have 3 cbs just standing on the line while were in possession. makes me angry to the core how we cant play through the middle because the extra man is just chilling with 2 other centre backs and theyre all marking like one opponent. nothing about our formation and the personnel we have makes sense honestly.
if we just played a 4-2-3-1 it would be
sesko/zirkzee/hojlund
cunha bruno/mount mbuemo/amad
casemiro/ugarte mainoo
shaw/dorgu yoro/martinez de ligt/maguire dalot/mazroui

cunhas backups have all been ousted from the club so wed need someone and we could still use an upgrade on casemiro/ugarte but otherwise everyone else is playing in their natural positions, wed have good depth, and most importantly we wouldnt fucking have 3 cbs!!!!!!
and the other thing is sometimes we actually switch to a back four during the game and the formation starts to resemble a standard 4-2-3-1, but the problem is in that scenario the wingers are dorgu and dalot/amad. if were going to allow the team to change formation during buildup like this why the fk are we picking wingbacks based on a back 5 team sheet? for all the shit we give rashford we still have to accept that dorgu wasnt a better winger than rashford

No idea.
It's been a few years since Tuchel used the formation in the PL.
Perhaps it's simply been figured out since then.
EDIT:
The so-called "weaker" teams in the PL have definitely gotten better at playing around a press since then, and Amorim's style seems to rely far too heavily on pinning the opposition back so that the two-man midfield can't be exposed.
Maybe that still works in the technically weaker Portuguese league, but it ain't working in the PL.

evilfatsh1t is right that we would be better off playing four at the back.
I'd take the easier route of pushing one of the three centre-backs into a holding midfield role, essentially making the formation a 4-3-3, whilst having everything else operate the same as it does now. The two 8s could press like they currently do, but there'd actually be someone between them and the centre-backs for cover, so our defence would be less exposed than it currently is.
So something like this:
Sesko
Cunha - Mbuemo
Bruno - Mount/Mainoo
Casemiro/Ugarte
Shaw - Yoro - De Ligt - Dalot
Heaton
It wouldn't be ideal to rely on Casemiro/Ugarte playing as a lone holding midfielder, but I still think it would be better than what we're currently doing. evilfatsh1t's 4-2-3-1 suggestion would also work fine and would also be better than what we're currently doing, so either is honestly good with me.
And I'm not joking about Heaton. Imagine the third-choice goalkeeper being the best at the club. We're clowns lmao.

depends on which team hes at.
if we take chelsea for example, tuchel and conte both used 3-4-3 but they had prime kante. you not only get someone making themselves available all the time through movement but also have someone dependable in defense so it frees up another player to get more involved in attack.
in our case bruno would be the player that is given more freedom in his current cm role if we had a kante next to him. unfortunately hes required to be far more disciplined and it has completely taken any spark out of him. when bruno was playing as a 10 he ran the most out of anyone in our team, and had almost too much positional freedom. now hes put in cm and if you watch him he hardly moves at all because he doesnt want to leave any spaces open. the problem is though that he doesnt actually want to do that job properly so his defensive work is half assed like we saw with fulhams equaliser and he doesnt look to receive the ball in tight spaces in case we get countered. brunos ball protecting skills actually arent very good compared to other top tier CMs. mcfred got so much shit over the years yet ironically if united arent buying someone new in midfield, either of mctominay or fred are what we currently need as a partner in cm.
also another thing about amorims 3-4-3 is that like i said before, our 3 cbs are very rigid in possession. ideally we have a cb that drives forward like stones does at city. the extra cb should at times become our extra man in midfield, but we dont have a single cb currently that carries the ball through the middle of a press when theres clearly space to do so. very occasionally we will see yoro move forward but hes playing on the right and so his movement doesnt open up as many passing lanes as de ligt would, had he been the one to move forward. the fact that our extra man is always standing in line with 2 other cb is basically like trying to attack with 10 men at all times.
