That’s genuinely surprised me that it had been that long for a Bayern player, until I thought for a bit and, yeah. Perhaps because they rarely have that singular superstar player in an era where those guys often get it. And some of their great sides you’ve probably seen a bit of the vote splitting, for example the classic Robbery combo

Still think the award might be more interesting if a player could only win it once as some others do.

I think Kane’s long been this player and he just keeps improving elements of his game, it’s just he’s got a stage where he can show it and boost his numbers.

I think his trajectory would be pretty similar if he’d moved earlier, he woulda got more recognition faster, but I think his level would be much the same. As Jock said, Ibra’s not a bad shout, or with guys like Hazard, Lewandoski, Suarez, Neymar, Mbappe etc who’ve been up there as the ‘best of the rest’ below Messi/Ronaldo at various times

The thing that comes to my mind is: Messi and Ronaldo are so insane because of their longevity. All the others you guys mentioned had a few excellent years but fell off at one point. Harry Kane has been top3/top5 striker almost his whole career in a not world class Tottenham side

Lewa in recent times is a good example. And Lewa should have won at least one Ballon, probably two. Mbappe is on his way there as well.

For me Zlatan is ahead of Kane. Zlatan does not have more league titles than Kane only because Kane was at Spurs. He won twelve league titles with his first and last title two decades apart. There are very few who won that many. When he returned to AC Milan as a 38 year old player he was instrumental in bringing them back to the top of the league and winning in 2021-22. Before that they had not finished in the top 4 for years. Spurs were not a worse team relatively than that AC Milan.
