I did not like that Mbappé had to wait so long before the penalty. What was that about? It was clear as a day.
That was a pretty boring first half! The French attack is great, but it would be foolish to open the door for Marocco's lethal counters.
Marocco is getting absolutely nowhere vs. France's established defence. France has a fantastic team!

On german TV they said that VAR checked a possible instance of someone talking while shielding his mouth with his hand. Very unfortunate way to handle this.

Difficult match, we had many occasions but failed to score so it was very stressful. Mbappe saved the day (other than that missed pen + occasion), then it was less stressful.
Morocco didn’t attack much though, even as they were down 0-1 or 0-2 they didn’t try much, dunno why?
Either Spain the big favorites of the tournament, or Belgium who got momentum with the red card fiasco and their decisive win versus USA ; so this semifinals is going to be rough
Rooting for Norway, Switzerland and may the best team win between Spain and Belgium

0.06 xG after an hour for Morocco and 0.14 at the end vs 3.05 for France, that was a terrible game for them. They should have let us win, really ;P. At least no more honking around here tonight!

Pretty comfortable for France in the end, expected a bit more from Morocco.
Hopefully my prediction that one of the top seeds will lose this round isn’t accurate as the most likely candidate is probably England haha!

They can only do that if the match is really close, otherwise it would be too blatant. Stuff like not going to VAR on any ARG goals, but carefully checking back a full 30secs on an EGY goal. The ref was already pushing it in the Paraguay game, FIFA must have told the all refs afterwards to be a bit more careful not to be so obvious, but still help Argentina. ;p.

I think the main reason why Marocco "didn't do much" was that the French defence is really, really good! They tried their counterattacks and everything else, but it was all stopped.
Their set pieces were mostly disappointing, they should have known that was one of their best chances when the counterattacks were taken away.

I think there were multiple instances checked.
1. The Doue tackle vs Hakimi
2. if it was actually a penalty. TBH it looked a lot like a dive to me. German ref commentator said it as well. Mbappe was on his way down waaaaaay before the contact.
3. Someone mentioned a hand/ mouth gesture though I haven't seen any pictures

Being only the third team to beat Mexico in the Azteca is one of England’s better World Cup results and they were good against Croatia. Ropey at times in other games admittedly.
Outside of the Southgate era, making a quarter final and playing reasonably well is a decent tournament for England
I think England fans are less knee-jerk than some others, a decent start in the job tends to earn you another tournament. If the same weaknesses and patterns keep repeating, people do lose patience though, as with Southgate
Personally speaking I think he’s done pretty well, but he’s made some pretty big blunders, notably his full-back selections for this tournament. So I’d hope that’s rectified by the Euros, where England should be amongst the big favourites again

I think when Trent has a full season with RMA, he'll start getting the callups again. Reece James probably played his last England tournament, dude is just way too injury prone to rely upon in these tournaments. He might get called up for friendlies and Nation's League but idk about World Cup or Euros anymore.
But agreed that the other fullback selections are super head scratching. Lewis Hall out injured meant Livramento should've been the obvious candidate as a dedicated RB instead of having Djed Spence play semi-out of position.

Shame that Courtois got injured. Lammens fumbled that last goal. Spain still look like the most complete team but the backline hasn't really been tested all that much. France vs Spain is gonna be fireworks and must watch television.
