High altitude, one man down and playing vs an energized Mexican team in their own capital. If you are not gassed after that, you are not human!

I know its pretty funny, except actual footballers who may have had a chance of actually playing missed out on the World Cup so we could have him as a cheerleader, and now he can't even do that.

All the defending and all the (legal, allowed) drugs they had to take to cope with the altitude probably.

Don't hold me to this, all I know is that there was 'some' discussion about it before the game.

Rather interesting albeit infuriating article about Balogun’s red card reprieve - www.bbc.co.uk

Hadn’t realised quite how unique a reprieve this was!

There was some rumour of them taking Viagra to help with the altitude. Tuchel denied this in an interview.

Not sure if that’s confirmed, would seem reasonable to me.

From a podcast I was listening to on this exact issue and match, you’ve got two ways to deal with altitude. Either you spend time to acclimatise, which takes time, or you arrive as close to the match as possible and play before your body starts to struggle with altitude. Some South American sides do the latter in WC qualifying when going to say, Bolivia.

With England having neither option available to them maybe drugs to adjust is fair enough, although like I said I dunno if there’s truth in that.

Either way shame both Mexico are out and no more Azteca either. Some electric atmospheres and a real iconic World Cup venue

So easy to cheer for Norway! Just a likeable team and nation really.

Today is the battle of Iberia. That has got to be good right?
And United States of Trumpistan vs Belgium. I predict the game will not end when Belgium is ahead. Gotta be an allnighter

I think its safe to say the entire world (minus a portion of America, not even all of it) are behind Belgium.

People were generally pretty positive about the US, its always fun when a host country performs well and has a chance at a deep run. That sentiment took a complete 180 overnight.

I want Lukaku to score at least 4 goals and Balogun to get another red card simply because that would be so funny.

TBH right from the beginning with all the immigration and VISA issues that seemed deliberately directed at certain teams I've been against the USA.

The problem with holding the World Cup in America is that the people who run America's sporting endeavours wouldn't know sporting integrity if they had just read a book about it. Look at their sports and how they are run.

In other news, Glasner confirmed for Forest. What a fantastic appointment.

If you are a Forest fan, you are going to have a great time the next 1-2 seasons. I regard Glasner as a good coach and he proved it already. Forest has interesting players too.

Yeah I'm really excited for it.

What's interesting is everyone was expecting him to go to a much bigger/more established club.

I can't even imagine what he has been promised. Apparently we've made him the 4th highest paid manager in the world or something. I would think he has demanded alot of control over transfers too, which would be unlike Marinakis to give away, but I can't see any other way we get Glasner.

That stuff, along with FIFA’s preposterous ticket pricing have definitely left a sour taste for me for sure.

That said I find the team pretty likeable, I like Poch and I’ve a lot of respect for American fans, as many have worked tirelessly to try to build a football culture that most other competing nations can take as a given.

But yeah this whole episode really leaves a sour taste indeed.

FIFA need to tread carefully here. Sadly people will tolerate all sorts of corruption, shady bidding processes and questionable hosts because well, it’s the bloody World Cup! When we get to the actual event, and the sporting purity all is forgiven, or at least grudgingly tolerated.

If Infantino and crew start fucking around with the actual sporting integrity of their meal ticket, well that’s the last line of defence gone, namely ‘well at least the competition is valid’

Agreed on Glasner, good pickup there!

I agree with this. I've always liked the USMNT and been behind them, hoping they can lift themselves above the situations they constantly seem to get themselves in, and their fans are great. Its just a shame sport in America is so corrupt and fixed by the laws they use to organise things, and its extremely sad to me that we're starting to see the same attitudes infecting the game in Europe.

Are there really contract clauses for what happens when getting sacked midseason?
