Uruguay pretty much self destructed by allowing 2 really unnecessary goals, but yeah I think Cape Verde has got a decent shot. Meanwhile Uruguay vs Spain could be pretty intense. I guess Spain likely qualifies anyway (the 3rd placed team ranking is always a mess), but Uruguay wants a win and Spain probably wants a draw at the very least.

Spain is in first with a draw, but I don't think they know how to intentionally play for a draw. What does that look like? But yeah, the group is wide open. If Uruguay and Cape Verde win, Spain will be sweating it. 4 points and their goal average should be plenty to be the best 3rd, but it'd be truly hilarious if Cape Verde beat Saudi Arabia by more goals than Uruguay does Spain, which would put them in first place. Of course, far more likely is that Spain wins, and Uruguay is probably just out. Either CV would be at 3+ points or KSA would be. In that case their only hope is as a best 3rd place, but 2 points does not seem remotely likely for that.

The only issue Undav has is: he doesnt play for Bayern Munich!

Jokes aside, after reading Nagelsmanns explainations, I cannot take him seriously anymore and as log as he stays coach, Undav will never ever start any game.

I think every single country would start Undav if they had him in the squad. He is a goal scoring threat who can also do link-up play and create assists.

I think we're pretty likely to get a scenario where three points means you get in the top 8 of third placed teams, regardless of GD.

group a: unless czech republic beats mexico or south africa beats south korea, (mex and SK are both definitely favorites imo), third placed team will have 1 or 2 points.

group b: if bosnia and qatar get a draw, third placed team has 2 points. If one of them wins, third placed team has 4 points.

group c: most likely scotland will have 3 points and negative gd as third placed team. (they're up against brazil)

group d: 4 points if aus/paraguay draw, 3 points and negative gd otherwise.

group e: equador has to beat germany or curacao beat ivory coast, otherwise third placed team has 1 or 2 points.

group f: if sweden gets a point vs japan, third place has 4 points, otherwise 3 with negative GD.

group G: Iran needs to get a point vs Egypt, otherwise third place has 2 points. Also possible third place will have 4 points, if Iran wins vs Egypt.

Group H: If Spain beats Uruguay, then 2 points for third place.

Now I J K L have only 1 played game so I don't see the point in calculating those but looking at this, multiple groups seem likely to end up with 2 points as their third place finish.

The Lionel Messi show continues. Wtf even was that last goal? He made a good run and a brilliant pass. You'd think that'd be enough, but Alvarez fumbled it badly (or if you want to be charitable: good goalkeeping, but I'll go with fumble). So Messi has to run in for the rebound (twice).
