Bit unlucky not to score more with how many hit the woodwork but I wasn't that impressed. Holy hell what a game from Netherlands vs Japan. I think everyone expected some fireworks so the game certainly lived up to expectations. Funny that the commentators (and me and my family) were screaming about Japan spamming crosses against the tallest side in the world cup, then they equalize off a header. Football is funny. | ||

Stats don't tell you everything but they do tell you enough when it's that lopsided. After Koemans weird subs Japan was clearly better for a period of 15-20 minutes. That said, I agree with your conclusion that it's a deserved draw. We conceded the goals way too easily. You can't do that if you want to win the tournament. I don’t share your view that we were playing not to lose. We were playing to win. Japan's game plan was to defend and counter. We were just not capable of properly breaking the Japanese defense most of the time. Which is probably worse. Your subs were pretty clearly playing to not lose after going up 2-1. Bringing on Ake for Gravenberch and going to a back 5 demonstrates that. Holy did Arne Slot mind control Spain?
