Also Australia against Turkey, what a nice match it was, damn.

So hyped for Netherlands vs Japan coming up. They looked enthusiastic. I wouldn't say they looked good. Ecuador should be more than good enough to put 3+ past that defense too. And Ivory Coast I don't really know, but I really don't expect Curacao to get a point there either. Still, if they have fun and play positive football like they did against Germany, I'd say they are a positive addition this world cup.

Bit unlucky not to score more with how many hit the woodwork but I wasn't that impressed. Holy hell what a game from Netherlands vs Japan. I think everyone expected some fireworks so the game certainly lived up to expectations. Funny that the commentators (and me and my family) were screaming about Japan spamming crosses against the tallest side in the world cup, then they equalize off a header. Football is funny.

Second goal from Japan was deserved though. Let ourselves be pushed back way too far. Funny. I'd say Netherlands were worse than Japan. :D So I guess it's a very well deserved draw haha. Game was very good though imo. It was a very hot time they played and they tried their best not to lose the game since they are both going for #1 and #2 in the group. Would have been stupid for either of them to go guns blazing

It was a very hot time they played and they tried their best not to lose the game since they are both going for #1 and #2 in the group. Would have been stupid for either of them to go guns blazing We were better for 75% of the game. At some point we had 7 shots on target vs 2 for Japan with 70% ball possession. Stats don't tell you everything but they do tell you enough when it's that lopsided. After Koemans weird subs Japan was clearly better for a period of 15-20 minutes. That said, I agree with your conclusion that it's a deserved draw. We conceded the goals way too easily. You can't do that if you want to win the tournament. I don’t share your view that we were playing not to lose. We were playing to win. Japan's game plan was to defend and counter. We were just not capable of properly breaking the Japanese defense most of the time. Which is probably worse. That's quite a lot of games to not lose in 90 mins in, actually!

Bringing on Ake for Gravenberch and going to a back 5 demonstrates that. Holy did Arne Slot mind control Spain? Looked like a Liverpool game, all possession and no teeth.

Fun stat, although probably not as fun as the Dutch one posted earlier, Spain have put together 2500 passes since their last World Cup goal
