Well, that's true. The hydration bullshit break was made for sponsor ads... what a disgrace.

Also Australia against Turkey, what a nice match it was, damn.
Morocco draw against Canarinhos was to be expected

Can't wait for Netherlands against Japan tonight

Just watch the highlights, but one thing is for sure: That Australian keeper will not be playing in Australia for much longer.

Germany keeps gifting Curacao chances. No idea what Germany's matchplan is tbh...

That aged well

Still, Curaçao officially no worse than Brazil!

Big deflection for their goal but Curacao actually didnt look half bad going forward. Could pull an upset in the group.

So hyped for Netherlands vs Japan coming up.

They looked enthusiastic. I wouldn't say they looked good. Ecuador should be more than good enough to put 3+ past that defense too. And Ivory Coast I don't really know, but I really don't expect Curacao to get a point there either. Still, if they have fun and play positive football like they did against Germany, I'd say they are a positive addition this world cup.

Ecuador and Ivory Coast did not look all that good tbh. Bit unlucky not to score more with how many hit the woodwork but I wasn't that impressed.

Holy hell what a game from Netherlands vs Japan. I think everyone expected some fireworks so the game certainly lived up to expectations. Funny that the commentators (and me and my family) were screaming about Japan spamming crosses against the tallest side in the world cup, then they equalize off a header. Football is funny.

Don't think the game was very good. Unnecessary draw for us. We were better most of the game and the first goal shouldn't have happened. Second goal from Japan was deserved though. Let ourselves be pushed back way too far.

Kind of amazing how the Netherlands hasn't lost in 90 minutes since the infamous game vs Portugal in 2006.

Funny. I'd say Netherlands were worse than Japan. :D So I guess it's a very well deserved draw haha.

Game was very good though imo. It was a very hot time they played and they tried their best not to lose the game since they are both going for #1 and #2 in the group. Would have been stupid for either of them to go guns blazing

We were better for 75% of the game. At some point we had 7 shots on target vs 2 for Japan with 70% ball possession. Stats don't tell you everything but they do tell you enough when it's that lopsided. After Koemans weird subs Japan was clearly better for a period of 15-20 minutes. That said, I agree with your conclusion that it's a deserved draw. We conceded the goals way too easily. You can't do that if you want to win the tournament.

I don’t share your view that we were playing not to lose. We were playing to win. Japan's game plan was to defend and counter. We were just not capable of properly breaking the Japanese defense most of the time. Which is probably worse.

That is a crazy stat but to be fair we failed to qualify a few times in the 2010s.

I just realized if both Germany and France top their groups they play each other already in the Ro16. That is just BS

Just 2018, right? So that's 2010 (finals), 2014 (third place match), 2022 (quarter finals). That's quite a lot of games to not lose in 90 mins in, actually!

Spain had a pretty boring, unexciting match that ended with a draw, without a single goal.

That what I would wrote if only that was not a draw with Cape Verde.

Your subs were pretty clearly playing to not lose after going up 2-1. Bringing on Ake for Gravenberch and going to a back 5 demonstrates that.

Holy did Arne Slot mind control Spain? Looked like a Liverpool game, all possession and no teeth.

If you are trying to hold a lead while up 2-1, that isn't playing not to lose. Playing not to lose means you're not willing to take risks while it is a draw, because you are reasonably happy with a draw.

Fun stat, although probably not as fun as the Dutch one posted earlier, Spain have put together 2500 passes since their last World Cup goal

Egypt looked quite good! Lukaku ironically steps onto the pitch and instantly creates the own goal. Belgium look like the usual Belgium. Them and Brazil have so much talent but just don't look like a side that can really make a deep run.
