Pretty much how I feel. Vini is a diva, a diver, and an arrogant asshole and I rejoice every time shit goes wrong for him on the pitch. But that doesn't mean he deserves racial and physical abuse from opposing players and fans throwing shit at him on the field. It's pretty disgusting what he had to deal with in this game.

Guillem Balague did a pretty succinct breakdown of just how many such incidents involving Vini have occurred over the years, must say it was much more than I’d thought, and I’d already thought there were quite a few instances.

Pretty grim stuff. I’m very much in the camp that finds Vini a bit of a twat, especially after the Ballon D’Or protest farce, but still sympathises with him in this regard.

I think people are engaging with this on completely the wrong level to be honest.
Its a way deeper problem than just racism.
The way football is now, we get kids at 5 years old and brainwash them into thinking the only thing that's going to matter for the rest of their lives is getting a result on match day. How many times a day on TALKSport do you hear the phrase 'its a results business'?
If people have decided they can make Vini slightly less effective without being punished by simply being racist to him while covering their mouth, and that gives them a slight advantage on the pitch, there's no point popping up at that point and saying "Actually also racism matters more" because you've just spent 20 years telling them that the only thing in the entire world that matters is getting a result.
It comes from the same place as diving, cheating, clubs spying on each others' training sessions, tapping players up, and generally breaking every rule possible to gain the slightest of advantages, which is all stuff that everyone just seems to accept in the game.
Obviously racism is one of the absolute worst examples of it, but it comes from the same place.

Like they could've conceded a couple more for sure. But they just.. look very dangerous when they're attacking - there are so many good, simultaneous movements that defending against them is really hard - even for one of the best defensive teams in Europe.
3-1 right now, if that result holds they have a more than decent shot to advance, even acknowledging that they are far superior on home field. Still 25 minutes to go though, and this game can see more goals going either way.

Any thoughts on the handball rule on the Inter goal? There was at least one, if not two touches with hand/arm in the buildup. I can see the contact(s) having pretty limited effect on the overall course, but then again I still like the simple concept of any handball touch invalidating the goal for the sake of simplicity.
Not a huge deal either way for me, but I'd love to understand how I'm supposed to interpret the situation nevertheless.

On the Vinicius thing, while in theory I would be in favour of the benefit of the doubt until complete evidence exists, specially because I haven't watch footage of it, it is important to note that some people on the stands (even very little kids that were too young to understand what they were doing...some of them were really young which is disturbing and makes one question what the hell are their parents doing at home) were doing the noises and gestures of monkeys, and this was visible in the small sample of images from the game that I watched.
So even if one choses to believe Prestianni's version that he was calling him "maricon" (not that it makes it that much better to be honest........), the behaviour on the stands was still going in that direction so there is very little one can argue to make a case for defense.
Unfortunately the club is trying to protect its asset, but at least on a supporter level, it seems it was a little better as generally people seem to be very against prestianni and the supporters that were showing this behaviour. So there is hope for that club still and for my countrymen to not be seen as complete idiots :/

you wouldnt if you didnt care about winning anything. if they did though, artetas blowing the best chance hes ever gotten. he cant say he needs more time to "finish his project" as hes had plenty.

It's really sad about how racism is learned, not an innate human trait. The Jackie Robinson movie (rip Chad Boseman) really highlights it in the one scene with the kid watching his dad and everyone around him yell slurs at Jackie and starts doing it himself.
