I 100% agree with Jim Rome... Here is my favourite baseball team these days... 30 minutes from 3 border crossings into the Great White North.  there was some yap in the USA politics thread about how impossible it is to throw 80MPH off of a mound. Compared to the world wide population that might be true. In the USA the average high school varsity pitcher who is 16.75 years old throws at 80MPH. This was also true in 2005 when I peaked as a pitcher. There are 16,600 varsity teams in the USA. Each team has 5 or more pitchers. In 2005, when i was the 3rd best pitcher on my average varsity level baseball team and threw at 80MPH I was probably the 60,000th best varsity level pitcher in all of North America. Impressive stuff eh? And, I'll add to my previous comment about how easy it is to throw at 80mph off of a mound.. Any 35 year old over 6 feet tall with 5 years of organized baseball experience can learn how to throw at 80mph after 1 year of strength, FLEXIBILITY, and velocity training. Ankle flexibility is key. So, I don't think throwing at 80 MPH is much of a brag for any male over six feet tall. I guess if you're a 5'5" female living in upper boldovia it might be amazing. | ||

The MLB 2026 brand of baseball is boring compared to other times and other forms of the game. The problem of every batted ball getting caught is the tip of the iceberg. From my perspective the era of MLB with massive sized outfields in massive ballparks with lots of infield hits and bunting was the best era. This similar style was also played by negro league baseball in the 1950s. The key is that players were bunting for base hits... not sacrificing. So, we need massive ball parks. Think 1999 Tiger Stadium with 440 feet to straight away center field. Think Yankee Stadium when it was 430 feet to left center field. This creates more opportunities for base hits on batted balls. It spreads out the outfielders. Next, start screwing with the infields to make bunting for a base hit a viable strat. Increase the height of the grass. decrease the height of the grass. Use dirt or clay on the 1st base and 3rd base lines so that it deadens the ball. This can force the infield in with certain hitters and makes the outfieders standing 30 feet from the outfield fence impossible. This forces baseball players to be more all around athletes instead of steroid monsters. Keep moving the outfield fences out to the point where swinging for a home run is no longer the 100% dominant strat. Tighten up the balk rule to make it easier to steal bases. Bring back 70s base stealing baseball. Force the infielders to move before the pitch. Again, make it so being an all around athlete is far more valuable than it is now. Requiring outfielders to stand in a certain place is lame. Field placement is an essential part of the game. Any how, none of this will happen... so I will just watch other types of baseball that are more entertaining. Modern MLB will continue to be pretty boring. Too many at bats are strikeouts//walks//homeruns. Congratz to the 2-time CBL Champion Welland Jackfish! | ||
