Worth?
I think that source is a tabloid source so wouldn't look too much into it.

Well euros do happen at the end of the season

The president, fans, and financial consequences aside, this is a great deal. The 19 years old I'm unsure about, the other have a few years of playing. The 100 millions could get 1 great player or 2 kinda younger/less impressive.
Barca wants to sell some players.
If they take this deal they could potentially do OK next season and prepare for the next one, after Messi.
They should negotiate more, but if they consider that this the end of Messi's era anyway (next year deadline anyway) they should take this way out.
I don't know what the other players will do though.
Someone mentioned the ones welcoming Messi, but what about those who see him leave? And if they are not happy with the president either...

City said they don't want to let them go.

Apparently his sources are very reliable... may seem petty but look from the boards POV. They are deeply in debt at that 700 million would help a great deal. They can't afford to not fight this in court.
|
True, but if he doesn't want to resign, or sell him for some "normal" price then he's fucked either way. Imagine benching Messi and maybe half of the dressing room because they would go on a strike or refuse to play.

I would argue that they can't afford to fight this in court. What do they really have to gain, even if they win in court? Noone is going to pay 700 million for Messi, and if they take him to court and he loses, he is not going to want to play for then ever again.

your right, its just posturing to squeeze whatever they can out of the situation because they have dug themselves into an epic hole and now the typical flailing and clutching at straws reaction.

And imagine the midfield behind them crying tears of blood getting over run by flanking full backs and DM pushing out with no pressure.

At some point United tried fielding both Rooney and Zlatan at the same time and it always ended up being really static and underwhelming, not to even mention the defensive struggles you'll face against current systems.
I guess both Messi and Ronaldo are still special enough that it could somehow work, but I'm not sure if that's any scarier than current top tier attacking trios we already have.
|
And Juventus midfield was the worst part of the team last season. They really should focus on improving it.
|
I guess there's a lot of shirt sales and other brand value to be had in Messi + CR7 union though. I'm not sure if there has ever been a better chance to unite two such dominant rivals. Footballing reasons may be secondary here compared to the marketing boost.

Battle lines being drawn. One would think Messi's lawyers would tell him to just go through the medical as this can harm his transfer chances.
Messi informs Barca he will not show up for tomorrow's medical check
Barcelona to inform Messi that he has a contract and cannot avoid the medical test
|
How so? That would weaken his position that his contract is terminated. If he is a firm believer that the clause was correctly applied, then he should act as such (by not showing up).
