What conspiracy? I don’t think there’s any conspiracy operating here, for x club to win other than thinking it’s profoundly depressing that a club like PSG is a mouthpiece for the state of Qatar.

For example, it's a bit different but Atalanta barely plays 1 or 2 Italian players in their team. They benefit from the fact that they're a small team, but had they more money, people would probably not like that. Bilbao only signs Basque players or foreigners, they'd hate Atalanta's current team.

It's all about where you draw the line, but the lower you put it, the less football you're going to want to watch. Or you can just enjoy good football, because none of us is going to rebel against the system anyway. For example, it's a bit different but Atalanta barely plays 1 or 2 Italian players in their team. I don’t personally think Bilbao’s Basque stance is necessarily one I’d want extrapolated out. Suits that particular club. If it’s good football vs competitive football, I’d err towards the latter strongly. Eventually we’ll end up with about 6/7 European clubs who can realistically win anything, I’m sure many will tune in but my interest will have been lost by then.

MLS will be your favourite league then. Id strongly recommend that highly competitive shitfest. Let me know how long you can last watching a mid table game. You are correct that a small number of big clubs that are hyper competitive and the rest being also rans doesnt cause any kind of "tune out" from the larger fanbase. Manchester United dominated the PL for a decade and a half and the result was the PL's popularity exploded in world markets when they started airing internationally. People are more drawn to dynasties and big teams. Thats what grows any competitive industry. La liga on the other hand at the turn of the century was not even in the game while having Depo, Real, Valencia all strong domestic and European teams. I bet most people here cant even name 5 players from either of those really strong Depo and Valencia teams. And once Real and Barca kicked up a gear. La liga got more interest and they also got motivated to work towards global markets. Good football is good football at the end of the day and it belongs to the world and you have to see it through that lens. You can gripe about your misgivings with it. But fundamentally if you love the sport you will be drawn to it. If you arent that invested and this illusion of competitiveness + Show Spoiler + (which really hasnt ever existed in reality if you break it down) Try baseball aur American Football, those will work for you. Also while taking political stances has value. As Willy pointed out. If your drawing a line arbitrarily for yourself on what is Acceptable practice thats fine, but you shouldnt expect people to do the same, and also should expect them to disagree with you, rather strongly if need be.

Fair, albeit this new audience doesn’t seem to particularly care about the wider health of the game so long as they can see Messi/Ronaldo et al frequently. A club like Man United did build a following on a consistent period of dynastic excellence sure, they usually had a rival most of these seasons, it wasn’t entirely plain sailing either. Juve have a stranglehold on Serie A that’s fast approaching a decade. Bayern likewise with the Bundesliga, PSG despite one season dropping the ball are in much the same boat. La Liga is a de facto duopoly now Athletico don’t seem to be able to punch above their weight with consistency. I fail to see how a better balance couldn’t be struck between keeping things competitive and not dampening the quality.

Anyway, i think the real reason why the premier league is so popular is they branded it right and the Asian market get 3pm saturday games at 10pm night time, we are also broadcasting in English which most of the world understands. I think if La Liga moved their games back to times like the Prem do then they would generate more people watching.

The league was very popular when Yanited and Blackburn were dueling at the start due to Blackburn throwing huge money at the scene at the time. Also some top players playing at Liverpool even though they were pretty poor after Kenny left. Also seeing an Atletico player complain after their opponent fakes a cramp was funny as hell.
